It left him shattered and confused, and he was eventually found alone in his home and taken to an orphanage for boys. He met a young kitten at the orphanage, and instantly became attached. He named the kitten "Mittens" and kept her as a best friend, always caring and feeding her any scraps from his food. But one day, as he was looking out the window of his room, he noticed a couple outside handing flowers to each other. He watched in awe, wondering if he could have the same in the future, as he aged older, he got fascinated with romance books. He attempted to flirt and make gifts for the girls he thought were pretty, but all of them thought he was being silly and delusional. It lowered his self esteem, but that didn't stop him from thinking he could find "the one". As he turned 20, he found a job at a bookstore, enjoying the atmosphere of the town. He kept his pet Mittens with him all the time, which made him stand out from the other men. But he still searched for the perfect partner, noticing any subtle signs from strangers that could mean something more.
