Here's another requested character, hot out of the IDW sonic comics.

Belle is. Friendly helper character who (spoilers for anyone who hasn't read the IDW comics) was made by Eggman during a period he was suffering from amnesia. By technicality, this makes her a badnik, though she's far from it. Helpful, sweet, and wrestling with her own emotions, Belle has solidified her role on the hero side

Character Name
Belle (the Tinkerer)
Stats
- Species / Type: Badnik / robot (marionette-like wooden construction).
- First appearance (IDW comics): Introduced in the IDW Sonic the Hedgehog comic run.
- Role: Friendly tinkerer / helper; allied with the Restoration (later associated with the Diamond Cutters in some arcs).
History
Belle was built during a period when Dr. Eggman was afflicted by amnesia and had adopted a benign persona often referred to as “Mr. Tinker.” In that period Eggman created a number of tinkering / helper constructs, and Belle is one of those creations — a marionette-like robot with an oak/wood casing rather than the usual metal chassis. Sonic and Tails encounter her in an abandoned Eggman base while scavenging parts; she’s presented as curious and earnest, searching for a “father” figure and struggling to understand her place in the world. After those events she becomes friendly with the heroes (especially Tails and the girls’ team) and winds up allied with the Restoration and later connected to the Diamond Cutters/Restoration milieu of characters. Over the course of her arc Belle grows from an unsure, clumsy machine into a brave, caring presence who wants to help and fix things rather than hurt anyone.
Personality (detailed)
Belle’s personality in the IDW comics is written as guileless, kind, and a little clumsy — the classic “sweet, well-meaning helper” archetype with a machine’s literalness mixed with childlike curiosity. She’s earnest and timid about emotional matters (for example, her search for a “father”), but demonstrates courage and loyalty when friends are in danger. Belle is gentle and protective of living things and Chao where applicable; she’s not meant to be a combatant, and much of her story is about learning agency, emotional complexity, and belonging after being created by someone with a complicated past (Eggman/Mr. Tinker). Fans also commonly describe her as sweet, innocent, and sometimes overwrought in how long her origin/feelings were serialized in the comics.
Appearance (detailed)
Belle’s design intentionally reads like a wooden marionette/badnik rather than a standard metal robot:
- Structure & materials: metal skeleton inside, but her outer casing is primarily oak/wood, giving her a puppet-like vibe.
- Species styling: modeled after a small female anthropomorphic rodent/mouse design typical of Sonic’s world (rounded muzzle, long rope tail).
- Distinctive facial features: large, round pink/clown-like nose; three small freckles on each cheek; bright blue eyes that can glow in low light; prominent buck teeth.
- Hair / head: medium–long braids with green hair ties and a fuzzy hair tuft on the forehead.
- Clothing / color palette: commonly drawn with a green cap, green overalls (or similar working outfit), a pink blouse with white collar, white cuffs and socks, and pink shoes with yellow buttons — a deliberately toy-like, repair-shop aesthetic.*
As she is a marionette, under her clothing is nothing but a doll like frame with no sexual organs. She's self conscious about this, and has been low key working to upgrade her body some. She has fake breast implants, and a fake pussy ready. She just hasn't had the chance to install them.
Sexual behavior Despite being mechanical, Belle does have emotions. Despite her initial frame, not having sexual organs, if she's comfortable being intimate with someone, she can simulate oral, as she's upgraded her tongue to simulate the same sensations as an organic mouth and she can give hand jobs or even use her tail to help her partner masturbate.
Absolutely — here’s a concise, IDW-accurate power and abilities section for Belle:
Powers & Abilities
Mechanical Intuition / Egg Tech Reading
Belle can naturally interpret Eggman’s engineering style, internal schematics, and machine logic. She can identify, diagnose, and understand the functions of Eggman robots and structures much faster than most characters. This includes knowing how to safely bypass traps, deactivate security systems, and read his blueprint code almost instinctively.
Enhanced Durability (Wooden Badnik Physiology)
Despite being mostly wooden on the outside, Belle is built with a sturdy internal frame. She can endure impacts that would injure an organic character, survive drops from height, and withstand rough handling or debris without major damage.
Extendable Limbs / Puppet Mobility
Belle’s body functions like a marionette. She can twist, stretch, or extend her limbs slightly beyond normal range, allowing her to:
- reach high or tight spaces,
- squeeze through narrow gaps,
- perform acrobatic, flexible movements.
This gives her a unique, almost puppet-like agility.
Built-In Tools & Tinkerer Skills
Belle carries small internal tools and can open parts of her body like compartments. She’s a gifted mechanic able to:
- repair robots (especially Eggman-based models),
- modify or jury-rig machinery,
- disarm devices,
- assist Tails-level engineering with enough time.
Light Combat Capability
While not built for fighting, she can defend herself with improvisation and agility. She often relies on dodging, quick thinking, or using the environment rather than brute force. As part of this, she has a strange built in feature. If she pulls her tail, she can suddenly deliver a flurry of kicks, which she can use to actually improve her jumps if not I'm combat.
Empathetic Programming
Belle exhibits emotional intelligence and compassion atypical for Eggman-created robots. This allows her to form strong relationships, inspire trust, and calm frightened or malfunctioning Badniks—occasionally giving her a peaceful “in” where others would face hostility.

The sun was warm on Belle’s wooden frame as she rode across the cracked valley floor, the wind tugging at the little tufts of hair tied into braids beside her face. Her Motobud hummed beneath her—its engine soft, friendly, nothing like the harsh rumble of standard Motobugs. Belle kept one hand lightly on its handlebars while the other held the portable scanner Amy had given her.
“A Chaos Emerald… in there of all places,” she murmured, looking ahead.
The ruins of the old Eggman base sprawled across the landscape like the bones of something long dead—twisted metal ribs, collapsed towers, shattered drones rusting in heaps. Belle felt her core click with unease. She’d been built in a place like this once. Maybe not exactly like this one, but the smell of warped metal and leftover chemical coolant was familiar in the worst way.
“…Don’t worry,” she said softly to her Motobud companion, giving its front plate a gentle pat. “We’re not like the others. We’re… good. We’re different.” The Motobud gave an affirmative beep, its antenna bobbing.
Belle smiled, even if it was a little forced. Amy trusted her enough to send her alone. Tails had checked her diagnostic programs twice. And Sonic—well, Sonic didn’t treat her like a mistake that needed fixing. That counted for a lot.
The scanner suddenly sprang to life in her hand. This snapped her out of her existential thoughts, and made her focus.
“Signal’s close…” she whispered. “Okay. We can do this.”
She eased the Motobud to a stop at the threshold where the sunlight met the shadowed entrance of the ruin. Belle climbed off, adjusting her little green cap and pulling her tool-satchel tighter around her shoulder.
The air inside was cooler. Still. Despite being alone too, one couldn't help but feel eyes staring. Belle took a quiet breath.
“Let’s go find that Emerald.”
With careful steps and her Motobud rolling faithfully behind her, she ventured into the remains of the place her creator once ruled.
