Belfort

Augustin Prosper de Belfort, simply known as Belfort, is a spaniel and the titular main protagonist of Belfort & Lupin, alongside Lupin. He is owned by King Louis XIV. He is voiced by Alexandre Nguyen for the French version, while he is voiced by Matthew Luret for the English dub.

Born in the luxury and comfort of the Château, Belfort is, in appearance, everything a spaniel of the best world should be: proud and upright gait, silky coat, neat claws, embossed ears... Walking in the mud? Why not roll in straw, while you're at it! A lounge dog, distinguished and refined... This is evidenced by the small golden fleur-de-lis that he wears as a medallion.

But let us say it clearly: Belfort abhors the interminable rituals dictated by the Etiquette de Versailles. It was out of the question for him to play the role of earthenware dog during the official ceremonies of humans! He, who knows the maze of the castle like no other, prefers to slip away at the first opportunity, to escape the vigilance of Bazire (the Valet des Chiens, very respectful of protocol), to go straight to the kitchens, where the royal pastry chef will treat him to biscotti's or spending hours in the King's Study, concentrating on deciphering the human alphabet!

Yes... Belfort is an intelligent dog! So intelligent and so educated that his animal instincts are reduced to nothing! His sense of smell is non-existent, and his grunts are ridiculous, These shortcomings of primitive instincts make him a total inadequate when it comes to putting his nose outside.

By far the worst chore of his life is hunting: firstly because he has to run for hours in the middle of the forest... and then because you have to catch game! Yuck! But how do you make this clear to a family that has been chasing deer and rabbits for generations? Moreover, when he does not manage to avoid this painful chore, Belfort is so clumsy that he scares away the game... This of course earned him the reprimands of his relatives... What does it matter? Belfort is happy to have been able to help a wild animal escape. He is a rebel with a big heart. And his eyes shine with that gleam of humanity so rare among the animals of the palace. Maybe that's why Belfort is Louis XIV's favorite dog, who knows...

Thus, within his own family, Belfort is a fish out of water. It is different and is often the object of mockery. If his relatives knew that Belfort had befriended an animal in the Gardens, there is no doubt that it would earn him the worst comments, or even a nice correction! Because you don't rub shoulders with lower-ranking animals, or worse, savages, when you are part of the canine elite!

Belfort is a royal French Spaniel Dog with a lofty and proud gait, silky coat, well-trimmed claws, and a shiny fleur-de-lis medal.

Belfort is one smart dog! He is so well-educated and so cultivated, in fact, that he has lost his animal instincts: he has no sense of smell or direction and is very uncomfortable when duty requires him to venture into the dangers of the palace gardens!

Because he does not have the typical attributes of a royal dog, Belfort is the black sheep of his family. He is unlike them, and they tease him for it. But Belfort prefers this freedom to be friends with whomever he pleases! He is a rebel with a heart of gold, and his eyes shine with a warmth of humanity, a quality all too rare among palace animals. Could this be why Louis XIV likes him best of all?

According to Marmot On Ice, Belfort's favorite fruit is Lemon.
