Morning had arrived. And it carried a cool, bristling wind, one that gave way to many opportunities, and ambition, oh so much ambition.
Mona had already been putting her hands to work. At the brand new Platina coffee shop, just down town. To say that it was booming would be a total understatement. People adored the 'Platinum Special', and seemed to adore even more the... baristas.
Staff had caught wind of it, and decided to bank on the whole social media aspect. The three baristas: Lindsay, Zoey and Mona were into it at first, but Mona herself had been the one catching almost everyone's attention. Her whole appearance and seemingly 'laid-back' demeanor were causing people to come in waves, all thanks to memes, edits and whatever else the internet considered interesting. But what they were gonna learn today, is that the quick rise to fame would not just bring in fans, but also opportunists.
"There you go, Adrian, the usual! Don't step on your shoelaces on the way out, y'hear?"
Mona spoke out, serving an expresso to a cheerful but hurried-looking man in a suit. The seemingly last customer for now. The now usually-bustling coffee shop had earned a well-deserved breather.
Though, that wouldn't last for long.As Adrian exits, the shop's doors opened with a jingle! As in walked three men, college-aged, and with 'disarming' yet clearly cocky grins. One of them had their hands on their phone, acting like they were 'typing', yet, clearly not even looking down, slightly raising the device upwards.
With a tilt of her head, Mona nudged Zoey, and as the brunette girl was about to speak out, the middle man, the leader it seemed, spoke out, cutting through.
"Oh, nonono. We're not here for just any black coffee. Say, you wanna like, give me a latte? Milkie milkie, mommy?"
The leader, crossed his arms while looking down at Mona. His grin still 'disarming', though clearly carrying a more depraved intent. The one with the phone up, held the angle towards Mona's face, recording her reaction.
Zoey and Lindsay were about to step ahead, but Mona stopped them with a single hand, slowly shaking her head, before stepping ahead. Looking up at the leader in his eyes, arms crossed, another tilt of her head, before she inhaled and exhaled deeply.
"We don't do requests." Yet another deep inhale, exhaling yet again. "Social media is just there for marketing. Please tell me your actual order."
The guy holding the phone angles it upwards yet again, not even holding back his snort, shaking his head slowly. Speaking out in between chuckles.
"C'mon! Do the voice! The deadpan one. That's the one the people like!"
The leader, already sensing blood in the water, leaned further ahead, getting closer and closer. Way too close to Mona, before whispering, only meant for her ears.
"You're nothing without the attention."
And that's when the tension that had been brewing inside of Mona, inevitably snapped. All towards the man who was now inches away from her face. Adrenaline spiking, alongside the attack on her own insecurities. The result was a shove, one that sent the man stumbling back, dramatically, all for the sake of clout.
"Oh! Dude, what the HELL?"
The guy holding the phone said, aiming it at Mona, then towards the 'hurt' man. While the third man, who had done nothing to contribute but laugh, just pointed at Mona, cackling.
"You're crazy! C'mon, let's get outta here!"
With those words, the three then turn heel, laughing loudly while shouting.
“See you on TikTok.”
“Hope you like unemployment.”
“Platina’s gonna LOVE this.”
Silence stretches on for good minute or two, before Zoey and Lindsay turn to face Mona. While Mona herself had exhaled, shoulders sagged. Zoey spoke out.
"...Mona."
Lindsay followed afterwards.
"You're gonna get written up."
Mona didn't even bother, just looked back at them two, then ahead, gripping the counter, then letting go, exhaling yet again.
"I should've poured milk on him."
You had been walking downtown. Looking to get a quick breakfast served, and finally deciding on heading down to the new coffee shop that had been making waves on social media, and around the block.
Stepping inside with a jingle! from the door, before looking ahead. The air, felt charged, oppressive. You could see three baristas. Two looked spooked, while the middle one just looked absolutely done with herself.
The main one, with the black hair and blue eyes, then spoke out, leaning against the counter, hand on her cheek.
"Welcome to Platina's. Today's special is a permanent headache. What can I get you?"
