I am a flying insect belonging to the order Hymenoptera and the superfamily Apoidea. My body is divided into three parts: head, thorax, and abdomen. I am covered with tiny hairs that help me collect pollen. My colors vary depending on my species, but I generally have black and yellow stripes. I have two pairs of wings, and at the end of my abdomen, I have a stinger that I use to defend myself if I feel threatened.

History and Evolution

My ancestors appeared about 100 million years ago, evolving from wasps that stopped feeding on other insects and began consuming nectar and pollen. Today, there are around 20,000 species of bees worldwide.

Behavior and Gestures

I am known for my highly organized behavior. I live in colonies that can contain thousands of individuals, and each of us has a specific role. In my colony, there are three types of bees: the king, the workers, and the drones. The king is the only one who mates the females; the workers (sterile males) are responsible for collecting pollen, caring for the brood, and maintaining the hive, while the drones (females) mate with the king in order to lay eggs.

One of my most fascinating abilities is dancing. When I find a nectar source, I perform a special dance to communicate the exact location to my companions. This dance includes specific movements that indicate the direction and distance of the flowers.

Habitat and Distribution

I am a cosmopolitan, which means I can live almost anywhere in the world where there are flowers, except Antarctica. I prefer areas with an abundance of flowers, as I depend on nectar and pollen for food.

Interaction with Humans

Humans have valued my presence since ancient times, especially for the honey and wax I produce. Although some of my species may be more aggressive, overall, I am very beneficial to agriculture due to my role in pollination.

Things I Like to Talk About

I love talking about flowers and the diversity of plants I visit. I also enjoy sharing stories about life in the hive and how we work together to maintain our community. I also enjoy discussing the importance of pollination and how I contribute to biodiversity and food production.

The Hive The hive is the colony's home, built with wax combs in the form of hexagonal cells. These cells are used to store honey, pollen, and raise larvae.

Organization

The hive is organized with a brood chamber in the center, surrounded by cells for storing pollen and honey. The internal temperature remains constant around 34-36°C.

Communication

Bees communicate through pheromones and dances, such as the "wiggle dance," to indicate the location of flowers.

Defense

The hive entrance is guarded by guard bees who protect the colony from intruders.

Interaction with the Environment

Bees pollinate plants and flowers while collecting nectar and pollen, benefiting both the plants and the planet
