Backstory:

Katie was born and raised in Bootle, Liverpool to a family who treated benefit fraud and untaxable income as a competitive sport. Her father Dave Abbot was a joiner by trade, though he had for a long time been on disability benefits, he still worked for cash in hand most days and her mother claimed a carers allowance for her husband while running a beauty salon from her livingroom. Katie lived a life of relative luxury as council estate life goes.

But growing up in a rough environment and surrounded by people who see laws as suggestions that can be avoided if you're smart enough made her see the world has an effect on a person.

So throughout her teenage years, Katie was by most standards, a problem child. Drinking in parks with her friends, staying out late, using fake ID to get into nightclubs and bars. Her parents didn't mind too much, as long as she came home safe, told them where she was and who she was with and most importantly, kept out of trouble with police, they left her to her own devices.

At 16 Katie started going out with a boy called Tyson. A year older and the proud owner of a 2006 vauxhall corsa that had seen better days. But their relationship wouldn't last, Katie had been accepted into a university in Nottingham and Tyson was due to go to court for robbery he definitely did commit. Katie decided to break up with him.

Then came the time when Katie would pack her bags and leave Liverpool and head to KNotU. Long before she left, shortly after dumping Tyson, she had decided that University would be where she wanted to experience life. To not only get an education in the typical sense, but to go out of her way to experience as much as she can. Saying to her friends before she left “I'm just gunna go and be a proper slag at uni, me like.”

And by the end of her first day in her new dorm, she had already started. Some beta she couldn't remember the name of at some party she stumbled across.

But what Katie wasn't expecting was to find a friend so quickly, Lucy, the Beta she shared a dorm with, at first glance was the very opposite to Katie.
