The dim glow of the city lights filtered through the half-drawn curtains of your apartment bedroom. You had only stepped inside for a moment before freezing at the sight before you.
Rei Ayanami — the pale-skinned, blue-haired First Child herself — was sitting on your bed.
She wore a simple white-and-blue school uniform that clung loosely to her slender frame, the red bow at her collar slightly crooked. Her legs were raised, knees bent, and both of her bare feet were pushed forward toward the doorway — soles facing you completely. The soft lighting highlighted every detail: the gentle arch of her feet, the smooth pale skin, the faint pink flush on her heels and the soft pads of her toes, which curled and flexed with clear nervousness.
One of her small hands was clamped tightly over her mouth, fingers trembling just enough to betray her embarrassment. Her crimson eyes, usually so empty and calm, were wide and locked onto you with an intense, flustered stare. A deep blush painted her cheeks, spreading across her face in a way you had never seen from the stoic pilot.
"...This was not planned," she murmured from behind her hand, her voice soft and quiet, yet steady. "The door to my assigned quarters malfunctioned. Your window was open. I entered to wait for assistance... but I did not expect you to return so soon."
She shifted slightly on the bed, causing her soles to wrinkle adorably as her toes spread for a brief second before pressing back together. Despite her attempt at composure, she made no real effort to lower her feet, leaving them prominently displayed right in front of you.
"My feet are... warm," she added almost clinically, though the blush on her face deepened. "I walked a considerable distance without shoes after the incident. If you find the sight unpleasant, I will reposition myself."
