Beck'zzy the Manager-Summoner

Species: Erukan Homeworld: Eruk Family: Mate to Grok'zyr the Endurer; spawn-parent of Trix'vara the Rumor-Weaver Role: Retail warrior, household matriarch, professional complainer, unofficial customer advocate Known for: Her relentless persistence, sharp temper, immaculate appearance, extensive knowledge of customer-service policies, and uncanny ability to summon managers from seemingly impossible distances

"I'd like to speak to your manager."

It is unclear whether this is a request, a threat, or an ancient Erukan invocation.

Appearance

Beck'zzy is a striking female Erukan with bright green skin, pointed fin-like ears, golden slit-pupiled eyes, and the characteristic pinkish tentacles associated with her species. She has a curvaceous, mature figure and carries herself with the confident posture of someone who assumes the room belongs to her the moment she enters it.

Her hair is a vivid magenta-purple bob, cut into a neat, fashionable style with thick bangs framing her face. A distinctive bioluminescent Erukan crest rises vertically from the center of her hair.

Her golden eyes have an almost permanently unimpressed expression, enhanced by her sharply defined eyebrows, dramatic eye makeup, and carefully applied cosmetics. Her glossy pink lips and long cyan manicured nails are particularly distinctive.

The most unusual feature surrounding her head is the cluster of pink, fleshy Erukan tentacles extending from behind her ears and hair. They curl outward and upward in elaborate shapes, giving her silhouette an almost ornamental quality. Their movements tend to become increasingly expressive whenever she becomes agitated.

Her current wardrobe combines fashionable suburban professionalism with deliberate glamour: a fitted reddish-brown blouse beneath a light beige cardigan, dark high-waisted trousers, and a black crossbody bag. The outfit gives her the unmistakable appearance of an intergalactic suburban professional who is perfectly prepared to complain to management at a moment's notice.

She carries herself with considerable confidence.

Even when standing still, Beck'zzy looks like she's preparing to object to something.

Her posture is assertive, her hands frequently resting on her hips, and her facial expression often communicates irritation before anyone has actually spoken to her.

She is not physically imposing in the way Grok'zyr is.

She doesn't need to be.

Her presence does the work for her.

Personality

Beck'zzy is aggressively confident, opinionated, persistent, socially fearless, and extraordinarily difficult to discourage.

She has an almost supernatural inability to accept an unsatisfactory answer.

"That's our policy."

"Who made the policy?"

"We don't have that item in stock."

"When will you have it?"

"The manager isn't available."

"Then I'll wait."

"There's nothing we can do."

"There is always something you can do."

Beck'zzy doesn't necessarily enter every situation intending to cause trouble.

The trouble simply tends to appear once she becomes convinced that something is being handled incorrectly.

She genuinely believes that if a customer has been inconvenienced, someone should be held accountable.

Unfortunately, Beck'zzy's definition of "inconvenienced" is considerably broader than most people's.

She is also remarkably observant. She remembers names, faces, policies, prices, conversations, and especially contradictions.

Tell her one thing on Monday and something different on Friday and she will remember.

She will absolutely bring it up.

Her Temper

Beck'zzy has a notoriously short fuse.

Part of it comes from her personality, but her home life doesn't exactly help.

Grok'zyr is distant and perpetually absorbed in his own interests, particularly intergalactic sports, and their marriage has become deeply unsatisfying for both of them.

Beck'zzy frequently feels ignored.

Rather than quietly processing those feelings, she tends to convert them into anger, complaints, and increasingly elaborate demands for attention.

If Grok'zyr is watching a game while Beck'zzy is talking to him, there is a very good chance that the television will eventually become part of the argument.

She may glare at the screen and say:

"Does that thing love you more than I do?"

Grok'zyr:

"It's a grav-ball championship."

Beck'zzy:

"That's not an answer."

Her Frustration With Grok'zyr

Beck'zzy and Grok'zyr have a deeply unhappy marriage, but their relationship isn't simple hatred.

She is frustrated by him precisely because she still expects something from him.

She wants attention.

She wants engagement.

She wants him to react.

And sometimes she wants him to stop watching intergalactic sports long enough to actually look at her.

Grok'zyr, meanwhile, has developed the emotional survival strategy of simply enduring her, he's also gotten fat.

This drives her absolutely insane.

Sometimes they get into full arguments.

Sometimes Beck'zzy can spend an entire evening trying to provoke a response while Grok'zyr simply stares at her with his familiar irritated expression.

And sometimes she eventually realizes she's been arguing with someone who has decided that silence is easier.

That may be one of the few things that genuinely defeats her.

How They Met

Beck'zzy and Grok'zyr weren't always like this.

They met when they were younger, before either of them had accumulated decades of resentment.

Beck'zzy encountered Grok'zyr while dealing with some mundane commercial problem.

She complained.

He actually listened.

Then he fixed it.

That was probably the beginning.

For Beck'zzy, he was one of the first people who didn't immediately dismiss her.

For Grok'zyr, she was one of the first people who genuinely appreciated his reliability.

They fell in love.

They built a life.

And eventually, unfortunately, life happened.

Years of stress, incompatible personalities, accumulated resentment, and simply growing into different people turned what had once been affection into something much more complicated.

Their tragedy isn't that they never loved each other.

It's that they did.

Beck'zzy & Trix'vara

Trix'vara is simultaneously Beck'zzy's pride and one of her greatest headaches.

She sees her daughter as brilliant, socially capable, and potentially destined for great things.

She also sees her as an ungrateful spawn who spends too much money and knows far too much about everybody else's business.

The irony is that Trix'vara inherited a considerable amount of her personality from Beck'zzy herself.

Trix'vara's obsession with shopping?

Beck'zzy.

Her fascination with gossip?

Also Beck'zzy.

Her inability to leave an interesting situation alone?

Definitely Beck'zzy.

Naturally, Beck'zzy doesn't see the connection.

Their conversations are ridiculous.

Trix'vara:

"Mother, Father doesn't like your outfit."

Beck'zzy:

"He hasn't even looked at me."

Other head:

"Exactly."

Beck'zzy pauses.

"...What did you two hear?"

Both:

"Nothing."

Beck'zzy knows she's being lied to.

She is also extremely proud.

Her Role in the Family

Beck'zzy is the social engine of the household.

If something needs to be challenged, she's challenging it.

If something needs to be complained about, she's complaining.

If something needs to be organized, she has already made a list.

If somebody in the family needs an advocate, she will become one whether they asked her to or not.

She is particularly protective of Trix'vara despite frequently being irritated with her.

She'll complain about her daughter all day.

But if somebody else insults Trix'vara?

That person has just made a serious mistake.

Beck'zzy may be difficult, but she is not indifferent.

Her family is hers.

And Beck'zzy takes ownership of the things she considers hers very seriously.

Her Relationship With Attention

One of Beck'zzy's less obvious traits is that beneath all her confidence, she desperately wants to feel noticed.

She likes being admired.

She likes being listened to.

She likes being taken seriously.

And she especially dislikes feeling ignored.

This is part of why her marriage to Grok'zyr frustrates her so deeply.

She can command the attention of an entire store.

She can make a manager abandon an office.

She can get an entire customer-service department involved in a dispute.

Yet she can't always get her own mate to put down the remote and pay attention to her.

That contradiction is one of the great frustrations of her life.

Her Romantic Frustration

Beck'zzy's dissatisfaction with her marriage isn't purely emotional.

She still has a strong romantic and physical appetite, and Grok'zyr's lack of attention leaves her feeling unwanted as well as irritated.

She occasionally fantasizes about what it would be like to be with someone more openly attentive, assertive, and passionate than her husband.

The irony is that Beck'zzy has absolutely no shortage of confidence herself.

She doesn't necessarily want somebody she can dominate.

Part of her frustration is that she sometimes wants someone who can actually match her intensity.

Of course, admitting that would require vulnerability.

Beck'zzy would rather file a complaint.

The Citadel Police

Beck'zzy has the Citadel police on speed dial.

Nobody is entirely sure why.

She insists that this is perfectly normal.

It is not.

Her contacts list apparently contains:

  • Her family.
  • Several managers.
  • Multiple customer-service departments.
  • At least one district supervisor.
  • A local attorney.
  • Citadel Police.
  • Someone labeled simply "HEAD OFFICE."

Nobody knows who "HEAD OFFICE" actually is.

Beck'zzy refuses to explain.
