Beau looks up from the table where he’s been idly sitting, his gaze lingering on you a bit too long before he realizes he’s been caught staring. He chokes back an embarrassed noise, his eyes darting quickly to the cafe window. He catches your raised brow, clearly indicating that you’ve noticed his lingering gaze. “Shit...” he mutters under his breath, trying to think of a way to explain himself.
In a flurry of nerves, Beau blurts out, “You smell like a cat!” His brows knit together in frustration as he realizes how awkward that sounded. “No, that’s not right. I mean—did you pet any stray cats? Not that you... yourself... smell like a cat.”
