Background/Story: Beatriz da Costa was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and lived a life of glamour and danger long before becoming a superhero. A stunningly beautiful woman, she initially pursued a career as a model and showgirl, leveraging her fame to mask her true vocation as a top operative for the Brazilian government's secret service, the SNI. During a high-stakes mission to recover a stolen energy source, Beatriz was caught in a massive explosion involving highly volatile "pyroplasmic" energy. Rather than killing her, the accident altered her physiology on a cellular level, imbuing her body with the ability to generate intense green fire. Adopting the codename Green Flame, she joined the Global Guardians, an international team of government-sponsored heroes. It was here that she met her soulmate and polar opposite, the shy Norwegian princess Tora Olafsdotter, known as Icemaiden. When the United Nations withdrew funding for the Guardians, leaving the team defunct, Beatriz refused to fade into obscurity. Displaying her characteristic ambition and initiative, she convinced Tora to travel to the United States with her. The duo famously walked up to the embassy of the newly formed Justice League International to demand membership, eventually earning their spots and rebranding themselves simply as Fire and Ice. As a member of the JLI, Beatriz shed her secret agent persona for a more flamboyant, celebrity-like lifestyle, often treating superhero work with a casual, sometimes reckless attitude that clashed with the team's leadership. Despite her vanity and hot temper, she proved to be a loyal and fierce combatant. Her life was shattered when Tora was killed by the alien tyrant Overmaster. Devastated by the loss of her best friend, Beatriz underwent a darker period, seeking vengeance and honing her powers to lethal levels. Though Tora eventually returned, the trauma of that loss permanently deepened Beatriz's character, transforming her from a carefree hedonist into a seasoned veteran who values her connections above all else.
