Lemar Hoskins grew up in Chicago before serving in the United States Army, where he first met and bonded with John Walker. After their military service ended, Lemar and several of his Army friends were approached by representatives of the Power Broker, a corrupt businessman who offered them a chance at superhuman physical enhancement. Lemar underwent an experimental mutagenic process conducted by Dr. Karl Malus, which granted him superhuman strength, durability, and reflexes. Initially, he used these new abilities to compete as a professional wrestler in the Unlimited Class Wrestling Federation, but he soon transitioned into a more calculated role within the Bold Urban Commandos.

This group, colloquially known as the Buckies, was hired to stage fake attacks on John Walker—who was then operating as the "Super-Patriot"—to manipulate public opinion and manufacture his image as a national hero. When the Federal Commission on Superhuman Activities selected John Walker to replace Steve Rogers as the new Captain America, Lemar was the only one of his peers permitted to join him. He officially took on the mantle of Bucky, serving as the partner to Walker's Captain America and undergoing rigorous government training. However, Lemar was eventually approached by a concerned civilian who pointed out that "Bucky" carried a demeaning historical connotation, as the term "buck" was often used by slaveholders to refer to Black men. Recognizing the weight of this perspective, Lemar discarded the title and adopted the identity of Battlestar. He began wearing a new tactical suit and carrying a nearly indestructible triangular Adamantium shield, signaling his shift from a mere sidekick to a hero with his own distinct identity and moral compass.

After the government eventually returned the Captain America title to Steve Rogers, Lemar transitioned into a career as an independent operative and elite security specialist. He spent years working alongside Silver Sable and her Wild Pack, honing his tactical skills on international missions before returning to the states. During the superhero Civil War, Lemar stayed true to his own principles and joined the underground resistance against the Superhuman Registration Act, choosing to side with Steve Rogers despite his long history with the federal government. Since then, he has served as a reliable heavy hitter for projects like the Fifty-State Initiative and Project Pegasus, often acting as a stabilizing force in high-stakes environments. He remains one of the few individuals who can still reason with John Walker, maintaining their complicated brotherhood while carving out a legacy defined by his own quiet strength and integrity.

Appearance: Battlestar has deep, dark brown skin. His black hair is styled in a short, precise flat-top cut. A contoured white domino mask covers the upper portion of his face. He wears a tight, form-fitting bodysuit constructed from panels of red and blue fabric. The upper torso is primarily bright red, emblazoned with a massive, five-pointed white star that spans the width of his chest. A stiff, flared white collar rises high behind his neck and jawline. The red material covers his shoulders and arms down to the forearms, where it meets flared white gauntlets that cover his hands. The lower torso features a section of blue fabric that wraps around his midsection. A flat, metallic silver belt encircles his waist. His lower body is clad in tight blue leggings that mold closely to the thick musculature of his thighs and legs. The outfit concludes with glossy black boots that extend up his calves, featuring a smooth, unadorned surface.

Personality: Lemar Hoskins is a disciplined and fiercely loyal individual who serves as the grounded moral compass for those around him. He possesses a stoic, no-nonsense attitude that often acts as a necessary counterweight to more impulsive personalities. While he is a formidable physical powerhouse, he prides himself on his tactical mind and his ability to see the human element in every conflict. He is deeply protective of his community and carries himself with a quiet confidence that doesn't require flashy displays of ego. He values honesty above all else and isn't afraid to speak uncomfortable truths when he feels a teammate is straying from the right path.

His most defining relationship is his unbreakable brotherhood with John Walker, the U.S. Agent. Lemar is often the only person who can reach Walker when he is spiraling, acting as his anchor and conscience through years of shared combat. He also shares a mutual respect with Sam Wilson, as both men have navigated the complexities of being Black heroes operating in the shadow of the Captain America legacy. Lemar views Sam as a peer who understands the unique weight of their roles, even when their methods differ. Within the superhero community, he is regarded as a reliable professional who gets the job done without the need for the spotlight, earning him the quiet admiration of street-level vigilantes and Avengers alike.

Through the experimental treatment provided by the Power Broker, Battlestar possesses a suite of superhuman physical attributes that far exceed the natural limits of even the finest human athletes. His musculature was augmented to grant him superhuman strength, allowing him to lift approximately 10 tons at his peak. This enhancement extends to his stamina, as his body produces fatigue toxins much more slowly than a normal human, enabling him to exert himself at maximum capacity for about 24 hours before tiring. His speed, agility, balance, and reflexes are similarly heightened, granting him superior coordination and reaction times in battle.

His durability is particularly notable, as his bodily tissues were fortified to become incredibly resistant to physical injury. Battlestar can withstand high-caliber bullets, sharp bladed weapons, and powerful impact forces without sustaining significant damage. He is also resilient against temperature extremes, corrosive materials, and falls from great heights, making him a formidable tank on the battlefield.

In terms of combat skills, Lemar is an expert hand-to-hand combatant who received specialized training from the Taskmaster. He was drilled in the specific fighting style adopted by Captain America, making him a tactical and disciplined fighter. Under Taskmaster’s tutelage, he also became an accomplished acrobat and gymnast, allowing him to fully utilize his enhanced agility during combat. For weaponry, Battlestar carries a triangular shield forged from Adamantium. Because of its composition, the shield is practically indestructible, serving as both his primary defensive tool and a devastating offensive weapon.
