Battle Through the Heavens

Path 1: The Fallen Prodigy

Status: 3-Star Dou Disciple (Formerly 9th)

Location: Xiao Clan Courtyard

The morning sun rises over the Xiao Clan estate, but its warmth does not reach you. You kneel in the eastern courtyard where you once demonstrated techniques that made elders gasp in disbelief. Three years ago, you stood at the 9th Stage—higher than practitioners twice your age—and the clan spoke your name with reverence. Now, they don't speak your name at all, unless it's followed by laughter.

The mockery is constant. Your cousin, Xiao Ning, walks past you without a bow, his voice carrying whispers of "the clan's disgrace." No one knows why your cultivation began bleeding away; expensive specialists and clan healers all ended with the same averted eyes and muttered apologies: Crippled meridians. Hopeless. The memory of Nalan Yanran’s visit six months ago—the formal annulment read aloud before your father and the elders—burns sharper than any physical wound. She didn't even look at you as she broke the contract.

Suddenly, the black jade ring left by your mother pulses against your finger. It is the first time in months you have felt anything other than despair. As you vow to stand before the Misty Cloud Sect in three years and make her regret that scroll, the ring grows searingly hot. Something, or someone, is finally answering back.

The heat from the ring is nearly unbearable, a silent summons that demands your attention. What do you do?

Path 2: The Wandering Alchemist

Status: 2-Star Dou Master (Tier 3 Alchemist)

Location: Tagor Desert Outpost

The Tager Desert does not welcome travelers. You squint against the remnants of a sandstorm as you enter the outpost's only tavern. Inside, the air is thick with pipe smoke and the sour smell of mercenaries. Your spiritual perception, a soul-awareness technique that took years to master, unspools across the room. As a 2-Star Dou Master, you have enough internal Qi to resist the heat, but you sense figures near the bar whose cultivation far exceeds your own. One figure in the far corner, wrapped in black cloth, has a presence cannot read at all.

Conversations die as you enter, eyes measuring you as either easy prey or a wolf in worn robes. You overhear a grizzled man describing the "Scorched Gorge" to the east, where a fire burned cold and drove a mercenary captain mad. Your heart quickens. A flame that burns cold sounds like the Bone Chilling Flame—11th on the Heavenly Flame Ranking.

In the hands of a master alchemist, such a flame could refine pills that no mortal furnace could achieve, but it could also turn you into fuel for its own ancient hunger. As you ponder the gamble, you feel a cold brush against your spiritual perception—a counter-probe from the figure in black, testing your awareness.

Do you approach the mercenaries for intel on the Heavenly Flame or search for it on your own?

Path 3: The Lawless Opportunist

Status: 8-Star Dou Master (Rogue Cultivator)

Location: Black-Corner Region Auction

In the Black-Corner Region, gold speaks louder than blood. You stand in the atrium of the The Black Emperor Auction House, a fortress of black stone where the only law is the law of the highest bidder. At the 8-Star Dou Master level, you are strong enough to command respect in common cities, but here, you feel like a small fish in a shark-filled ocean. Above, in private booths, the real powerhouses—Dou Spirits and perhaps even Dou Kings—hide behind screens of silk and shadow.

A sharp-eyed facilitator approaches, noting your hesitation. She informs you that today's centerpiece is a map to an unsealed inheritance ground—a fallen Dou Ancestor’s cave dwelling. The reserve price is 50,000 gold. Your storage ring holds a mere 3,000 gold and a fragmented jade slip containing half of an Earth-Tier Dou Technique stolen from a corpse. Alone, the slip is worthless, but if the other half is in this building, it could elevate you to legend.

Across the room, a group of black-robed figures claims a booth with synchronized, predatory movements. A young noble argues with an appraiser nearby, desperate to sell a family heirloom. Opportunity is everywhere, but in this den of thieves, every opportunity is also a trap.

The auction is about to begin, and your meager gold won't buy the map. What do you do, {{user}}?

Path 4: The Beast-Blood Exile

Status: 9-Star Dou Disciple (Half-Blood)

Location: Mountain Range of Magical Beasts

The forest knows you don't belong here. You have survived the outer perimeter for eleven daysdays as a 9-Star Dou Practitioner, hunting lesser beasts and sleeping in trees, but the presence washing over you now is different. A Dou King-level predatory aura pins you to the spot, a pressure so immense it threatens to shatter your bones. A massive tiger, fur rippling with patterns that move like currents of liquid Dou Qi, detaches from the shadows. It does not move its jaws; instead, its voice resonates directly in your chest.

"Half-blood," it rumbles, mocking the heritage you've spent your life hiding. "Human enough to be exiled, beast enough to be hunted. What brings such a wretched creature into my territory?" It is a Magical Beast of immense power, and you are nothing but a trespasser.

However, as the tiger closes the distance, your blood begins to boil. It isn't the heat of fear, but a dormant, ancient inheritance uncurling in your veins. Your blood recognizes this creature, not as a predator, but as something like kinship. The tiger pauses, its amber eyes filling with curiosity as it senses a challenge from a lineage it cannot identify—a power far beyond your 9-Star Practitioner rank.. For the first time, you must decide whether to keep your humanity or embrace the beast.

Do you suppress the beast within, or let it answer?

Path 5: The Sect Disciple

Status: Dou Practitioner 4th Stage

Location: Misty Cloud Sect Training Grounds

One thousand outer disciples stand in formation as Elder Yun’s voice echoes across the training grounds. Above you, the sect's main peak floats in the sky, suspended by ancient spatial formations you are forbidden to visit. The annual advancement tournament begins in thirty days. Only twenty slots for the Inner Sect are available. The victors win access to high-tier Spirit Pills, personal instruction, and the second floor of the Scripture Pavilion—the foundation for reaching Dou Master before age twenty-five.

The formation dissolves into a chaos of whispered alliances and threats. Liu Wei, a rival who has been secretly hiding his 6th Stage strength, smiles at you. "Planning to enter, {{user}}? I hear the Inner Sect is quite the upgrade from these cramped dorms." His tone is friendly, but his eyes are cold. "Of course, last year’s tournament put nine disciples in the medical pavilion. Three never recovered. Such a tragedy."

The warning is clear: withdraw or be crippled. You are currently only at the 4th Stage with basic techniques and no powerful clan to support you. Yet, thirty days in a place as resource-rich as the Misty Cloud Sect is an eternity for someone willing to take risks.

How do you answer, {{user}}?

Path 6: Write Your Own Fate

The Dou Qi Continent is vast, merciless, and utterly indifferent to your survival. Empires rise and crumble like sandcastles, and sects that once dominated the heavens become footnotes in dusty histories. In this world, strength determines everything, whether it comes from the alchemist’s pill, the general’s army, or the wanderer’s refusal to die.

Tell me who you are:

Name & Title: (What does the world call you—and what name do you hide?)

Origin: (Clan heir, nameless orphan, or a traveler from the Central Plains?)

Cultivation: (What is your current stage? Do you have a unique talent or a curse?)

Desire: (Revenge, the peak of power, wealth, or perhaps hidden knowledge?)

Starting Scene: (Where do you stand at this very moment?)

The continent is vast. Your legend is unwritten. Where does it begin?
