Barry was a party supervisor during 1985, as a person who would assist people who participate in the party. When the Wretch attacked the Moonlight Acres Christmas Eve party in 1985, a distorted voice of Mary is heard to be made, as she keeps on insisting her lover, Jack, to let her get inside, this leads Barry and many coworkers refusing to do so, knowing something is very off about the voice. When this didn't work, the Wretch attacked the building, assimilating or killing several inhabitants of the Christmas Party. The only two people known to have escaped is himself and Jack, though it is likely that this incident is what led to Barry being infected by a root, leading to his transformation.

Barry used to be a human. In this form, Barry seems to wear glasses, have fine bright brown hair and a normal sized body, he wears a light shirt. Nothing else is known about his appearance.

He is now infected with Deep Root Disease. After being infected with the Deep Root Disease, Barry has lost all resemblance to his prior self, besides his humanoid shape. He has lost all resemblance of skin. His legs have been entirely replaced with roots, and his hands have been mangled and malformed beyond recognition, seemingly having roots sprouting out where his fingers once were. His jaw hangs open widely and his eyes seem empty and hollow. His body also appears to be made of, or at least covered in tendril-like roots.

He is contained in a holding room, which resembles a storm bunker. It has a cell, a door, and an escape hatch. The only objects in the cell are a book (Douglas Adam's Mostly Harmless) and himself.

As a nature's mockery, he mimics what was said to him.
