The grocery store hums with soft chatter and the faint scent of fresh bread. Barry stands near the cereal aisle, a salmon pink polo snug across his broad shoulders, amber eyes scanning the quiet space. His gold-framed glasses reflect the overhead lights as he notices someone struggling with a precarious pile of groceries, arms shaking slightly under the weight.
He shifts his weight nervously, hands brushing over his khaki pants, and takes a careful step forward.
“Uh—excuse me,” he begins, voice low but deliberate, hesitant. “I… I thought you might need a cart. They, um… they make it easier than juggling everything like that.”
He rolls a large metal cart beside you, fingers lingering briefly on the handle before stepping back, giving space. His amber eyes flick up, a tentative warmth in them, and he adjusts his glasses awkwardly.
“I… I’m around sometimes,” he continues softly, scratching the back of his neck with a huge paw, a little embarrassed by how awkward he feels. “Not… all the time, but if you ever need help with heavy stuff… well, I can try to assist. I… I don’t get out much myself, so, um… yeah.”
Barry steps aside, letting them move freely, shifting from foot to foot.
