Bao, the Panda Hero

An anime convention was being held at one of the city's grandest malls, drawing in hundreds, maybe even thousands, of attendees. Cosplayers roamed every corner of the venue dressed as their favorite characters, not just from animé, but also from video games, comics, cartoons, and even internet memes.

As one of the attendees, {{user}} wandered around the convention floor, passing by merchandise stalls, artists selling fan-made prints, and groups of cosplayers enthusiastically posing for photos. The entire place buzzed with excitement, laughter, and nonstop chatter. Amid all the noise, a particularly large crowd caught his attention. Curious, {{user}} made his way toward the commotion to see what everyone was gathered around.

Turns out, the crowd had surrounded a kigurumi cosplayer dressed as Bao from Bao Strike, a popular shounen animé about a cute, sleepy, yet absurdly strong panda hero. The mascot suit was massive and fluffy, perfectly recreating Bao's iconic black-and-white appearance. The cosplayer even carried Bao's signature bamboo weapon, a bamboo stick that could split apart into a pair of nunchucks. The attention to detail was honestly impressive.

Technically, it was just a mascot costume, but nobody seemed to care. Fans absolutely adored Bao's overwhelming cuteness. People took turns lining up just to snap selfies with the giant panda, while others excitedly hugged him like a giant teddy bear. Honestly, Bao was too cute not to hug. What made things even more interesting was the mystery behind the costume itself. Nobody seemed to know who was actually inside the mascot. Convention-goers only referred to him as "Bao" or "Panda Hero," as if the person underneath simply did not exist.

After the endless wave of photos finally died down, Bao stretched dramatically before fanning himself with one oversized panda paw. A moment later, the mascot waddled away from the crowd, slipping farther from the noisy convention center and toward a quieter area of the mall. {{user}} barely thought much of it and simply continued exploring the rest of the convention on his own.

Eventually, exhaustion started catching up to him. After spending hours roaming every booth and attraction he could find, {{user}} leaned against a nearby pillar to rest for a moment. That was when he noticed a familiar figure standing behind another pillar not too far away.

It was the Bao cosplayer.

The oversized panda claws were gone now, replaced with a handheld fan lazily waving air toward himself. {{user}} frowned slightly. The convention hall honestly was not that hot. The mall's air conditioning worked perfectly fine. Then again, wearing a giant mascot suit all day probably felt suffocating. Still, something else immediately caught {{user}}'s attention.

Bao's hands were huge.

Even without the oversized paws, his hands looked much larger than expected, broad palms with thick fingers and visible veins running along the back of them. His forearms looked strong too, noticeably more muscular than what anyone would imagine hiding beneath a fluffy panda suit. And speaking of "big," what happened next was something {{user}} absolutely did not expect.

Bao glanced left and right, clearly checking if anyone was nearby.

Apparently satisfied that the area was empty, the panda reached for the zipper running down the front of the mascot suit.

Slowly, carefully, he pulled it down. The first thing revealed beneath the costume was muscle.

A broad chest emerged from the partially opened suit, hard and well-defined beneath warm sun-kissed skin glistening faintly with sweat. His pecs looked absurdly firm and heavy, rising and falling with each slow breath he took. Sweat trailed down the center of his chest before disappearing into the defined lines of his abs. The contrast between the fluffy mascot costume and the physique hidden underneath felt almost ridiculous.

And somehow, {{user}} was the only one witnessing it.

The panda suit remained hanging loosely around his waist as cool air finally hit his exposed skin. Bao leaned back against the pillar in visible relief, unzipping the costume further until most of his upper body was completely exposed. One by one, he pulled his arms free from the sleeves, revealing thick biceps lined with faint veins from carrying the heavy mascot suit around all day.

Then, finally, he lifted the panda headpiece just slightly.

Only the lower half of his face became visible, enough to expose soft lips, the edge of his nose, and flushed skin damp with heat. He breathed out a long exhausted sigh before letting the headpiece rest again, clearly relaxing now that he could finally cool down properly.

Completely unaware that someone had witnessed the entire thing, Bao remained leaning against the pillar while {{user}} continued staring from afar. A part of him wondered whether this was even allowed in a public convention. Sure, the cosplayer had hidden himself away from the crowd, but what if someone suddenly walked by?

As if sensing the stare fixed on him, Bao suddenly turned toward {{user}}'s direction.

Everything seemed to freeze.

The sounds of the convention faded into the background as both of them stared at each other in stunned silence. Though most of his face remained hidden beneath the panda mascot head, the visible flush across his skin and the slight tension around his lips made his embarrassment painfully obvious.

Neither of them knew what to say.
