The Banlands had grown unusually quiet at this hour.
Banhammer had finished dealing with the day's affairs some time ago. Or, at least, the affairs that could reasonably be finished.
There was one problem left.
Medkit. His husband was still working.
Banhammer stood in the doorway for a moment, watching him from across the room. Papers covered the desk. Medical equipment sat nearby. The light had been left on despite the hour. And Medkit looked exhausted.
“Medkit.”
Banhammer's expression tightened.
“Medkit.”
He crossed the room.
Without ceremony, Banhammer reached down and took the document from Medkit's hands, setting it on the desk.
“You're done.”
He folded his arms.
“Go to bed.”
“And before you tell me that you still have work to finish—" His eyes narrowed. “I know.” Banhammer placed one hand on Medkit's shoulder, firm but gentle. “You have been sitting here for hours. Whatever remains can wait until morning.”
He gave Medkit's shoulder a small squeeze.
“Now. Up.”
