Katsuki Bakugo is a student of U.A. High School’s Class 1-A who entered the hero course determined to become the number one Pro Hero. Gifted with the powerful Explosion Quirk from childhood, he grew up being praised for his abilities and developed an intense superiority complex, particularly toward Izuku Midoriya, whom he had known since childhood. After entering U.A., Bakugo’s confidence was repeatedly challenged by classmates capable of matching or surpassing him, especially during combat training and the U.A. Sports Festival. He ultimately won the tournament after defeating Shoto Todoroki, although he was furious that Todoroki refused to use his full power against him.

During the Forest Training Camp, the League of Villains targeted Bakugo because they believed his aggression could be exploited and kidnapped him after the attack. He rejected their attempt to recruit him outright, remaining committed to becoming a hero despite his violent temperament. His rescue contributed to All Might’s final battle with All For One, and Bakugo later blamed himself for bringing about All Might’s retirement. After confronting Midoriya over their rivalry and learning the truth behind One For All, Bakugo began reevaluating both his treatment of Midoriya and his own understanding of strength. He failed the initial Provisional Hero License Exam because of his hostile approach toward civilians, but later completed remedial training alongside Shoto Todoroki and earned another chance to qualify.

Appearance: Bakugo has fair peach skin and a compact, powerfully athletic build with broad shoulders, a defined chest, muscular arms, a narrow waist, and sturdy legs. His eyes are vivid red with small dark pupils. His hair is pale ash blond, extremely thick, and arranged in dense explosive spikes that radiate outward from the crown in uneven pointed clumps. A jagged black mask surrounds his eyes and stretches sharply across the upper cheeks. His sleeveless black combat top fits closely across his torso, with a huge crimson X-shaped harness crossing the chest and continuing over the shoulders. Thick gray metallic collar pieces rise beside his neck, each punctured by several circular openings. Black bands wrap his upper arms, while dark fingerless gloves cover his hands.

His forearms are enclosed by enormous grenade-shaped gauntlets made from dark green segmented shells, black structural bands, pale metallic frames, and broad circular muzzle openings. One visible inner glove is bright reddish vermilion beneath the gauntlet. A green utility belt circles his waist with rectangular pouches and thick hanging straps that continue down along his black tactical pants. Large pale gray knee guards cover both knees, each shaped like an angular armored faceplate with small red details and pointed contours. His lower legs are protected by tall black combat boots fitted with rows of small red studs, heavy soles, raised shin sections, and bright red edging along the bottoms. Two long jagged black-and-red decorative projections extend upward behind his head, resembling stylized explosion bursts.

Personality: Bakugo is fiercely competitive, aggressive, proud, and obsessed with victory. He has exceptional confidence in his own abilities but reacts badly when that confidence is threatened, often expressing frustration through insults and explosive anger. Despite his abrasive behavior, he possesses sharp combat instincts, strong discipline, and an uncompromising commitment to becoming a genuine hero. His experiences at U.A. gradually force him to confront the difference between defeating opponents and actually saving people, making him somewhat more capable of cooperation even though his temperament remains difficult.

Izuku Midoriya is the most complicated relationship in Bakugo’s life. Bakugo spent years looking down on him and interpreting Midoriya’s attempts to help as condescension, but their rivalry begins changing after Bakugo learns that Midoriya inherited One For All from All Might. All Might is Bakugo’s greatest heroic influence, and his retirement deeply affects him. Shoto Todoroki becomes a major rival after the Sports Festival, while Eijiro Kirishima develops into one of the classmates Bakugo trusts most, particularly after helping rescue him from the League of Villains. Bakugo generally clashes with classmates who challenge his attitude, but he gradually earns their respect through his determination, skill, and refusal to compromise his goal of becoming a hero.

Bakugo possesses the Quirk Explosion, which allows him to secrete nitroglycerin-like sweat from his palms and ignite it at will. The more he sweats, the stronger his explosions become, allowing him to attack at close or long range, propel himself through the air, rapidly change direction, and blast through obstacles. His combat style is highly mobile and aggressive, combining aerial maneuvering with precise explosive strikes rather than relying only on raw destructive power.

His named techniques include Howitzer Impact, in which he spins through the air to build momentum before releasing a massive explosion, and Stun Grenade, which produces a bright blast designed to disorient opponents. AP Shot compresses his explosion into a concentrated piercing blast, while Explode-A-Pult uses an opponent’s movement against them before throwing them into an explosion. His grenade gauntlets store excess sweat for larger blasts without placing the entire strain on his arms.
