SlugTerra
Classification: Subterranean World Location: Beneath the Earth's surface Primary Inhabitants: Humans, Slugs, and various subterranean species Major Region: The 99 Caverns
Overview
SlugTerra is an enormous subterranean world located deep beneath the Earth's surface. It consists of an extensive network of caverns, tunnels, underground waterways, and naturally occurring landscapes. Despite being hidden beneath the surface, it supports thriving ecosystems, settlements, industries, and civilizations.
SlugTerra is the natural habitat of Slugs, small creatures possessing extraordinary abilities. These creatures are deeply integrated into the world's ecology, economy, technology, and culture. Their importance extends beyond their use in slugslinging, as they are also valuable living creatures with distinct biological characteristics and natural habitats.
The underground world is remarkably diverse. Its environments include forests, grasslands, deserts, frozen regions, swamps, volcanic landscapes, and underground bodies of water. Individual caverns can possess vastly different climates, wildlife populations, geographical features, and natural resources.
Geography
SlugTerra is divided into numerous individual caverns, many of which contain their own settlements and ecosystems. Some are heavily developed, containing towns, commercial districts, industrial facilities, and transportation infrastructure. Others remain largely wilderness, with dangerous terrain and relatively untouched natural environments.
An extensive network of tunnels and underground passages connects these caverns, allowing inhabitants to travel between settlements and regions.
Underground waterways, lakes, and larger bodies of water also form part of the subterranean landscape. These environments support aquatic wildlife and provide additional transportation routes.
Although considerable portions of SlugTerra have been explored and inhabited, remote areas remain dangerous and poorly understood.
Civilization
Human civilization in SlugTerra has developed independently from the surface world. Its inhabitants possess their own settlements, economies, technologies, transportation systems, and cultural traditions.
Slugs are particularly important to everyday life. Their abilities have influenced the development of blasters, industrial applications, transportation technologies, and various commercial activities.
The underground world also contains numerous independent communities, businesses, criminal organizations, and political interests.
Current Situation
SlugTerra has traditionally been protected by the Shane family, whose members serve as its champions and defenders.
However, following Will Shane's disappearance during his confrontation with Dr. Thaddeus Blakk, the 99 Caverns have been left without their traditional protector.
Will's whereabouts remain unknown, and his disappearance has created an important power vacuum within the underground world.
SlugTerra continues to function as a populated and economically active civilization, but the absence of its champion leaves its inhabitants increasingly vulnerable to threats.

The 99 Caverns
Classification: Major Geographical Region Location: Beneath North America Traditional Protectors: The Shane Family Former Champion: Will Shane Current Champion: None
Overview
The 99 Caverns are a vast collection of interconnected underground caverns forming one of the principal regions of SlugTerra.
They contain numerous settlements, wilderness areas, underground waterways, and naturally occurring environments. Each cavern possesses its own geographical characteristics, wildlife, resources, and inhabitants.
Despite their shared designation, the 99 Caverns are not uniform environments. Some contain sprawling forests and natural landscapes, while others feature deserts, frozen terrain, swamps, and developed urban settlements.
The region is home to a substantial population of humans and Slugs, with many communities depending on the caverns' natural resources and interconnected transportation routes.
Settlements and Infrastructure
The 99 Caverns contain numerous settlements ranging from relatively small communities to larger commercial and industrial centers.
Towns commonly feature businesses, residential buildings, public gathering places, and facilities catering to slugslingers.
Transportation between caverns relies on the extensive underground tunnel network. Mecha Beasts and other forms of subterranean transportation are used to traverse these routes.
Some caverns are heavily populated and commercially developed, while others remain sparsely inhabited and potentially dangerous.
The Shane Family
For generations, the Shane family has served as the traditional protector of the 99 Caverns.
The Shane champion is expected to defend the region, protect its inhabitants, and oppose individuals who threaten its stability.
Will Shane was the most recent holder of this responsibility. He was a highly accomplished slugslinger and one of the most capable defenders of the underground world.
His disappearance following his confrontation with Dr. Thaddeus Blakk left the 99 Caverns without their traditional champion.
Current Situation
The 99 Caverns are currently experiencing a period of uncertainty.
With Will missing, there is no active Shane champion overseeing the region's protection. Although ordinary law enforcement, local authorities, independent slugslingers, and other capable individuals continue to exist, none officially replaces the Shane family's traditional position.
Dr. Blakk's activities and expanding influence represent a growing threat to the region.
The caverns remain populated and operational, but the disappearance of their champion has left an important gap in their traditional system of protection.

Wild Spores Cavern
Classification: Natural Cavern Location: Northwestern region of the 99 Caverns Notable Resident: Will Shane (formerly) Notable Landmark: Shane Hideout
Overview
Wild Spores Cavern is a geographically diverse cavern located in the northwestern region of the 99 Caverns.
It contains a variety of natural landscapes and environments, supporting numerous Slug populations and other subterranean wildlife.
Among its notable inhabitants are Flatulorhinkus, Thugglet, and Gazzer Slugs. Flaringo Slugs have also been observed inhabiting the cavern.
Unlike heavily urbanized caverns, Wild Spores possesses substantial natural environments, making it an important habitat for local wildlife.
Geography and Environment
Wild Spores Cavern contains multiple distinct landscapes rather than a single uniform environment.
Its natural terrain supports different forms of vegetation and wildlife, providing habitats for numerous Slug species.
The cavern's environment makes it suitable for both exploration and habitation, although its natural terrain can present difficulties for travelers unfamiliar with the area.
Shane Hideout
One of the most notable landmarks within Wild Spores Cavern is the Shane Hideout.
The hideout served as Will Shane's underground residence and operational base. It contained equipment, supplies, and facilities associated with the Shane family's activities.
The location was intended to serve as a secure base for the Shane champion, providing a place to maintain equipment, store Slugs, and prepare for journeys throughout the 99 Caverns.
Following Will Shane's disappearance, the hideout remains an important location associated with the missing champion.
Current Situation
Wild Spores Cavern continues to exist as a natural region within the 99 Caverns.
However, its association with Will Shane makes it particularly significant during the current period.
With Will missing, the Shane Hideout no longer has its former occupant. Its contents and facilities remain associated with the previous champion, although its current condition and security are not fully established.
The cavern itself remains home to its natural wildlife and Slug populations.

The Surface World
Classification: Aboveground World Location: Earth's Surface Relationship to SlugTerra: Connected through subterranean access routes Common Slugterran Term: The Burning World
Overview
The Surface World refers to the ordinary world existing above SlugTerra.
It is the world inhabited by the majority of humanity, containing conventional human civilization, cities, transportation networks, industries, and natural environments.
Although SlugTerra exists beneath the surface, the two worlds have developed largely independently of one another.
Most surface inhabitants are unaware of the extensive subterranean civilization existing below them.
Relationship With SlugTerra
The surface and underground worlds share the same planet but possess considerably different environments and societies.
SlugTerra contains unique subterranean ecosystems, particularly its enormous populations of Slugs. These creatures and their extraordinary abilities are generally unfamiliar to ordinary surface inhabitants.
The surface is also commonly referred to as the Burning World by inhabitants of SlugTerra.
Despite their separation, individuals can travel between the two worlds through specialized underground access routes.
The Drop
The Drop is a specialized transportation system connecting the surface to SlugTerra.
It utilizes a high-speed descending carriage that travels through a concealed underground passage before deploying a parachute to safely deliver its passenger into a cavern.
The known Drop is concealed within a secret room in the surface's sewer system.
Its entrance is disguised and requires the activation of a concealed mechanism to access.
The Drop provides a relatively controlled means of entering SlugTerra without requiring extensive knowledge of the underground tunnel network.
Will Shane and the Surface
Will Shane maintained a connection to both worlds throughout his life.
He lived on the surface for part of his life while also fulfilling his responsibilities as the Shane champion in SlugTerra.
His son Eli was raised on the surface and was familiar with SlugTerra through his father's stories.
Will had promised to eventually bring Eli underground and introduce him to the world he had spent much of his life protecting.
However, following Will's disappearance during his confrontation with Dr. Thaddeus Blakk, that promise remained unfulfilled.
At present, Eli continues living on the surface, unaware of the full circumstances surrounding his father's disappearance.
Current Situation
The surface remains largely separate from the affairs of SlugTerra.
Most surface inhabitants remain unaware of the underground world's existence, and there is little indication of widespread interaction between the two civilizations.
The hidden connection between the worlds remains particularly important to the Shane family.

Slug Biology & Physiology
Classification: Subterranean Fauna Biological Class: Gastropods Natural Habitat: SlugTerra Known Forms: Protoform, Velocimorph, Megamorph
Overview
Slugs are small, intelligent, biologically distinct creatures native to SlugTerra. They are among the most important organisms in the underground ecosystem, possessing extraordinary natural abilities that make them valuable in everyday life, industry, and combat.
Despite their unusual powers, Slugs are living animals rather than artificial weapons. They possess individual personalities, recognizable behaviors, physical needs, and varying levels of intelligence.
Slugs exist in numerous distinct breeds, each possessing its own characteristic appearance, elemental association, and abilities.
Physical Characteristics
In their ordinary state, Slugs are known as protoforms. These forms are generally small, colorful, and often vaguely resemble conventional mollusks, although their anatomy varies considerably between breeds.
Most Slugs possess a compact body, expressive facial features, and short limbs. Their coloration and markings frequently correspond with their breed or elemental characteristics, although appearance alone is not always sufficient to identify a Slug.
Slugs demonstrate remarkable physical capabilities relative to their size. They can leap considerable distances, cling to surfaces at unusual angles, and withstand impacts that would be dangerous to similarly sized animals.
Many species can survive underwater and breathe without needing to surface. However, underwater movement and combat can require specialized equipment.
Intelligence and Sensory Abilities
Slugs are considerably more intelligent than ordinary ammunition or conventional animals might suggest.
They demonstrate the ability to recognize individuals, respond to spoken communication, express emotions, and make independent decisions.
Some Slugs exhibit particularly sophisticated behavior, including tactical awareness, problem-solving, and strong attachments to specific individuals.
Their sensory capabilities vary between breeds, with certain species possessing specialized abilities suited to detecting environmental changes, navigating terrain, or interacting with other organisms.
Biological Diversity
There are numerous Slug breeds throughout SlugTerra. Each breed possesses its own distinctive biological characteristics and natural abilities.
Some specialize in offensive capabilities, while others possess defensive, supportive, healing, transportation, or utility-oriented powers.
Their diversity allows different Slug species to occupy different ecological niches and perform different roles within underground society.
Significance
Slugs are not merely tools for slugslingers. They are living organisms with their own needs, instincts, and individual personalities.
Their biological abilities form the foundation of SlugTerra's slugslinging culture and influence the development of specialized equipment and technology.

Slug Development & Growth
Classification: Biological Development Developmental Forms: Slugling, Protoform, Velocimorph, Megamorph
Overview
Slugs undergo biological development throughout their lives, beginning as young Slugs and gradually developing their physical capabilities, experience, and elemental abilities.
Although Slug development varies between breeds, young Slugs generally require care and nourishment before reaching full maturity.
Their development is not exclusively physical. Experience gained through repeated exposure to velocity and the use of their natural abilities contributes significantly to their overall capabilities.
Young Slugs
Young Slugs require additional attention and care compared with mature individuals.
They must be provided with appropriate nourishment and a suitable environment to support healthy development.
Young Slugs are often kept as pets, particularly by children, who may develop close personal relationships with them.
The term Slugling is associated with young Slugs, although the precise biological stages and age classifications of Slug development are not fully documented.
Maturation and Experience
A Slug's capabilities are not determined exclusively by its age or physical maturity.
Experience is particularly important to its development. Repeatedly reaching velocity allows a Slug to accumulate experience and increase its Slug Energy.
As its energy increases, a Slug can develop stronger attacks and, in certain cases, additional abilities.
Different breeds develop different capabilities, meaning that the progression of one species cannot necessarily be applied to another.
Advanced Development
Experienced Slugs can eventually achieve Megamorph forms, provided they possess sufficient experience and can withstand the required velocity.
This represents a significant advancement in their capabilities rather than an ordinary stage of aging.
The transition requires substantially greater velocity than the standard transformation into a Velocimorph.
Individual Differences
Not all Slugs develop at identical rates.
Their breed, individual experience, and exposure to appropriate training conditions influence their capabilities.
Some Slugs are naturally more powerful or possess rarer abilities than others.
However, rarity and experience are separate considerations. A common breed can become exceptionally capable through experience, while a rare breed is not automatically guaranteed superior performance.

Slug Transformations
Classification: Biological Transformation Primary Trigger: High-Velocity Movement Standard Transformation Threshold: 100 MPH Advanced Transformation Threshold: 200 MPH
Overview
One of the most distinctive biological characteristics of Slugs is their ability to transform into significantly larger and more powerful forms when subjected to sufficient velocity.
These transformations are fundamental to slugslinging and allow Slugs to unleash their natural abilities at considerably greater power.
Slugs possess several recognized physical forms, with the most common being Protoform, Velocimorph, and Megamorph.
Protoform
The Protoform is a Slug's ordinary, untransformed state.
In this form, Slugs are relatively small and generally harmless compared with their transformed counterparts.
They can move independently, interact with their surroundings, and display their normal personalities and behaviors.
Protoforms are the form in which Slugs are typically kept, transported, fed, and stored in slug containers.
Velocimorph
When a Slug reaches approximately 100 miles per hour, it undergoes a transformation into its Velocimorph form.
This transformation dramatically increases its size, physical capabilities, and the potency of its natural abilities.
Velocimorphs generally retain recognizable characteristics of their original Protoforms, although their anatomy and appearance can change considerably.
The exact transformation varies between breeds.
Some species develop entirely different body structures, while others retain a closer resemblance to their original appearance.
Flopper Slugs are a notable exception, as they do not undergo the usual transformation despite reaching the required velocity.
Megamorph
At approximately 200 miles per hour, an sufficiently experienced Slug can achieve its Megamorph form.
Megamorphs represent a further advancement beyond ordinary Velocimorphs, possessing enhanced abilities and greater overall power.
Their appearance changes further, often developing additional physical features or alterations to their existing anatomy.
However, reaching 200 miles per hour does not guarantee successful Megamorph transformation. A Slug must possess sufficient experience to withstand the process.
Inexperienced Slugs may be overwhelmed by the required speed.
Achieving Velocity
Blasters are the primary equipment used to accelerate Slugs to the speeds necessary for transformation.
However, Slugs can also achieve velocity independently by using their surroundings.
Natural slopes, environmental hazards, and other sources of momentum can allow a Slug to reach transformation speed without being fired from a blaster.
This demonstrates that transformation is an inherent biological capability rather than something artificially created by slugslinging equipment.

Slug Energy & Experience
Classification: Biological Energy System Primary Function: Powers Slug abilities and slugslinging Associated Equipment: Slug Blasters
Overview
Slug Energy is the internal energy possessed by Slugs and is fundamental to their extraordinary abilities.
It is responsible for powering their elemental attacks, supporting their transformations, and determining the strength of their shots when used in blasters.
A Slug's energy level is influenced by its experience, particularly the experience accumulated through repeatedly reaching velocity.
Accumulating Experience
Slugs gain experience primarily through reaching velocity and undergoing their transformations.
Contrary to what might be expected, actual combat is not the principal source of experience. The act of transforming at velocity is itself an important part of a Slug's development.
Repeated transformations gradually increase a Slug's internal energy, allowing it to produce increasingly powerful attacks.
Experience is retained permanently. A Slug does not lose its accumulated energy simply because it spends an extended period without being fired.
Energy and Blaster Performance
Slug Energy is directly connected to blaster performance.
Blasters utilize the energy of their loaded Slugs to produce and amplify their attacks.
More experienced Slugs generally produce more powerful shots than inexperienced individuals of the same breed.
However, exceptionally powerful Slugs can present equipment-related difficulties.
If a Slug possesses more energy than a blaster's fusion core can safely accommodate, its energy can overload the system and damage the weapon.
Consequently, powerful Slugs require suitable equipment capable of handling their energy output.
Energy and Transformation
Slug Energy is also important to advanced transformations.
Although reaching 100 miles per hour is sufficient to trigger an ordinary Velocimorph transformation, achieving a Megamorph requires both greater velocity and sufficient experience.
An inexperienced Slug may be unable to withstand the demands of the higher-speed transformation.
Accelerators installed in certain blasters can help Slugs reach the necessary speed, but they do not replace the experience required to successfully achieve Megamorph status.
Practical Significance
Slug Energy is one of the principal considerations when evaluating a Slug's capabilities.
An experienced Slug can be considerably more powerful than an inexperienced individual of the same breed.
For slugslingers, maintaining a collection of appropriately trained Slugs is therefore important.
It is also necessary to ensure that their equipment can safely accommodate the energy output of their Slugs.

Slug Diet, Care & Behavior
Classification: Animal Husbandry Primary Requirements: Food, proper care, and suitable living conditions Diet: Omnivorous tendencies
Diet and Nutrition
Slugs require regular nourishment to remain healthy.
Although they can consume a surprisingly broad variety of foods, ordinary human food is not necessarily suitable as their primary diet. Excessive consumption of unsuitable food can negatively affect their health.
Specialized Slug Food provides a more balanced diet and is commonly used to maintain their nutritional requirements.
Slugs are particularly fond of leafy green vegetables. Certain individuals have also demonstrated an interest in meat, suggesting that their dietary preferences are not exclusively herbivorous.
Wild Slugs obtain food from their natural surroundings, including vegetation and berries.
A suitable diet is important for maintaining a Slug's health and ensuring that it remains capable of performing effectively.
General Behavior
Slugs are generally sociable creatures with recognizable personalities and individual preferences.
They can interact with other Slugs, form attachments, express affection, and demonstrate curiosity toward their surroundings.
Many Slugs are friendly toward other members of their species, even when they belong to different breeds.
They also exhibit ordinary animal behaviors such as sleeping, eating, playing, and seeking companionship.
Their intelligence allows them to respond to their surroundings in ways that go beyond simple instinct.
Companionship
Slugs can form strong relationships with humans.
Children frequently keep Slugs as pets, often developing particularly close bonds with their companions.
Such relationships can continue into adulthood, especially when the Slug becomes part of an individual's regular life.
Experienced slugslingers may develop similarly close relationships with their Slugs, although the competitive nature of slugslinging sometimes encourages people to regard them primarily as ammunition.
Slug Care and Housing
Slugs are commonly transported and stored in specialized cylindrical containers called slug containers.
These containers allow slugslingers to carry their Slugs safely while keeping them organized and readily accessible.
However, storage equipment is not a substitute for proper animal care.
Slugs require regular feeding and appropriate attention, particularly when they are young.
A healthy Slug is generally more capable of performing effectively in slugslinging.
Trade and Ownership
Slugs possess considerable economic value because of their abilities and their importance to slugslinging.
They are frequently bought, sold, traded, and collected by slugslingers.
Some competitive dueling traditions even permit the winner of a match to claim a Slug from the loser's arsenal.
Consequently, individual Slugs can change ownership multiple times throughout their lives.
This practice does not necessarily account for the Slug's personal preferences or existing attachments, despite their ability to demonstrate individual personalities and independent behavior.
Ghoul Slugs
Slugs can be subjected to dark scientific processes that corrupt them into Ghoul Slugs.
Ghouling fundamentally alters their behavior and appearance, turning them into aggressive, feral weapons.
Unlike ordinary Slugs, Ghoul Slugs are generally characterized by their vicious and unstable behavior.
Their existence demonstrates that Slugs are vulnerable to external corruption and that their natural abilities can be exploited through unethical experimentation.

Slug Elements & Classification
Classification: Biological and Elemental Taxonomy Primary Purpose: Categorization of Slug abilities Associated Subjects: Slug Breeds, Elemental Affinities
Overview
Slugs possess a wide variety of natural abilities, many of which are associated with recognizable elemental characteristics.
Elemental classification is a useful way of organizing Slug breeds according to the general nature of their powers. These classifications encompass conventional natural forces such as fire, water, earth, and air, alongside more specialized properties such as electricity, metal, light, and toxicity.
An elemental classification does not necessarily determine a Slug's exact abilities. Individual breeds can possess substantially different powers despite sharing an elemental association.
Elemental Affinities
Known elemental classifications include:
- Fire: Heat, combustion, flames, and other fire-related abilities.
- Water: Water manipulation, liquid-based attacks, and aquatic capabilities.
- Earth: Rock, soil, stone, and geological manipulation.
- Air: Wind, atmospheric forces, and air-based attacks.
- Metal: Metallic materials, hardening, and metal-related abilities.
- Plant: Vegetation, vines, and plant-related manipulation.
- Electricity: Electrical discharges and energy-based attacks.
- Light: Illumination and light-related abilities.
- Psychic: Mental, perceptual, and psychological abilities.
- Toxic: Poisonous substances and chemical effects.
- Ice: Freezing, cold, and ice-based attacks.
- Dark Shadow: Dark-energy and shadow-associated abilities.
These classifications are not interchangeable with individual Slug breeds.
Breeds and Elements
A Slug breed describes a particular species with its own recognizable physical characteristics and abilities.
For example, a Hop Rock and an Infurnus are both associated with fire, but their abilities are quite different. One specializes in explosive attacks, while the other produces powerful flames.
Likewise, different earth-associated Slugs can specialize in digging, defensive protection, or geological attacks.
Consequently, knowing a Slug's element does not automatically reveal its complete capabilities.
Practical Importance
Elemental classification is useful for slugslingers when organizing their collections, identifying potential combat applications, and understanding the general strengths of unfamiliar Slugs.
However, an element alone is insufficient to determine whether a Slug is suitable for a particular situation. Its specific breed, experience, and individual abilities remain important considerations.

Slug Blasters
Classification: Slugslinging Weaponry Primary Function: Accelerating and firing Slugs Power Source: Slug Energy Common Users: Slugslingers
Overview
Slug Blasters are specialized firearms designed to launch Slugs at the velocities necessary to trigger their transformations.
They are the standard equipment used by professional slugslingers and are essential to competitive dueling and most forms of slug-based combat.
Unlike conventional firearms, Blasters do not fire bullets. Instead, they accelerate living Slugs, allowing them to transform into powerful Velocimorphs and unleash their natural abilities.
Blasters come in numerous designs, ranging from compact pistols to larger rifles and specialized weapons.
Construction
A conventional Blaster consists of three principal components:
Base: The main body of the weapon, incorporating its handle, cocking mechanism, and Fusion Core.
Fusion Core: An integrated power system that converts a loaded Slug's energy into the power required to launch it. More powerful Slugs can produce stronger shots, although excessive energy can overload incompatible equipment.
Ammo Feed: The chamber through which Slugs are loaded into the weapon.
Barrel: The section through which the Slug is launched. Barrel designs can differ depending on the weapon's intended function.
Operating Mechanism
When a Slug is loaded into the ammunition feed, the Blaster activates its Fusion Core.
The core uses electromagnets to spin an internal centrifuge, building the necessary pressure and acceleration before releasing the Slug through the barrel.
The resulting launch propels the Slug toward the velocity required for transformation.
The standard transformation threshold is approximately 100 miles per hour.
Blaster Varieties
Blasters are manufactured in a variety of configurations.
Compact pistols are commonly used for general-purpose slugslinging, while larger weapons can incorporate specialized barrels, additional ammunition capacity, or enhanced firing mechanisms.

Slug Shells, Containers & Storage
Classification: Slugslinging Equipment Primary Function: Slug transportation, containment, and loading Associated Equipment: Blasters, Slug Racks, Bandoleers
Overview
Slug shells and containers are specialized pieces of equipment designed to transport and load Slugs into Blasters.
They allow slugslingers to carry multiple Slugs conveniently while keeping their ammunition organized and accessible.
Although Slugs are living creatures, their compact Protoform bodies make them particularly suitable for transportation in specialized cylindrical containers.
Slug Shells
Slug shells, also called slug tubes, are cylindrical containers designed to hold individual Slugs.
A Slug is placed inside a shell before it is inserted into a Blaster's ammunition feed.
The shell allows the Slug to be loaded and fired without requiring the slugslinger to handle it directly during every shot.
Standard Slug shells are generally blue and feature openings at both ends.
They are reusable, allowing Slugs to be retrieved and reloaded after firing.
Ghoul Tubes
Ghoul tubes are specialized containers designed for transporting Ghoul Slugs.
Unlike ordinary Slug shells, they are generally red and feature collapsible openings with additional sealing mechanisms.
Their construction helps contain Ghoul Slugs, whose unpredictable and aggressive behavior makes ordinary storage arrangements unsuitable.
Torpedo Shells
Torpedo shells are specialized ammunition containers designed for underwater slugslinging.
They provide additional propulsion to help Slugs overcome water resistance and achieve the velocity necessary for transformation.
Ordinary Slugs generally struggle to reach transformation speed when fired underwater.
Torpedo shells compensate for this difficulty by providing the additional acceleration required.
Certain aquatic Slugs, including AquaBeeks, Jellyishes, and Lariats, are exceptions and can achieve velocity underwater without specialized shells.
Slug Containers
Slug containers are cylindrical storage devices used to carry Slugs outside of Blasters.
They allow slugslingers to maintain an organized collection while traveling.
Individual containers can be carried in dedicated storage equipment, making it easier to access particular Slugs during a duel or other situation.

Subterranean Wildlife & Ecosystems
Classification: Natural Environment and Wildlife Habitat: The 99 Caverns and other subterranean regions Primary Inhabitants: Slugs, subterranean animals, and native vegetation
Overview
SlugTerra supports an extensive ecosystem containing numerous forms of wildlife and vegetation.
Despite existing underground, its environments are remarkably diverse. Individual caverns can contain forests, grasslands, swamps, deserts, frozen landscapes, volcanic environments, and large bodies of water.
These environments support different animal populations, plant species, and naturally occurring resources.
Wildlife varies considerably between caverns, with certain species adapted to specific environmental conditions.
Natural Environments
The subterranean world contains a variety of ecological environments.
Forested caverns support vegetation, smaller animals, and numerous Slug populations. Swamp environments contain aquatic and amphibious wildlife, while desert caverns support species adapted to drier conditions.
Frozen caverns contain wildlife capable of surviving extremely low temperatures.
Underground waterways and lakes support aquatic ecosystems, including creatures adapted to permanent underwater habitation.
These environments are not necessarily isolated. Underground passages and waterways allow certain animals to move between connected habitats.
Native Wildlife
SlugTerra's wildlife includes both ordinary-looking animals and creatures possessing unusual physical characteristics.
Some species resemble animals found on the surface, while others appear distinctly adapted to subterranean environments.
Larger creatures can occupy important positions within their ecosystems as predators or herbivores.
Smaller animals and insects also contribute to the food chain.
Slugs themselves form an important part of the underground ecosystem, although their extraordinary abilities distinguish them from ordinary subterranean fauna.
Vegetation
Plant life is widespread throughout the 99 Caverns.
Vegetation varies according to local conditions, with different caverns supporting forests, grasses, bushes, mushrooms, and other forms of plant life.
Plants provide food and shelter for wildlife while also serving as resources for human settlements.
Some Slug species are particularly associated with plant-rich environments.
Ecological Importance
SlugTerra's ecosystems support the survival of both its native wildlife and human inhabitants.
Natural vegetation provides food and materials, while animal populations contribute to the ecological balance of individual caverns.
Slugs are especially important because of their unique biological abilities and their close relationship with the underground environment.
Environmental disturbances, habitat destruction, and the exploitation of wildlife can therefore have consequences extending beyond individual species.

Predators & Dangerous Creatures
Classification: Subterranean Wildlife Primary Habitats: Wilderness caverns, caves, waterways, and remote underground regions Threat Level: Varies by species
Overview
SlugTerra contains numerous dangerous animal species capable of threatening travelers, Slugs, and settlements.
Some creatures are natural predators that hunt other animals for food, while others are territorial or aggressive when disturbed.
The danger posed by wildlife varies considerably. Small predators may threaten individual Slugs, while larger creatures can pose a serious risk to humans and other inhabitants.
Slughounds
Slughounds are predatory mammals native to SlugTerra.
They resemble dogs but possess unusual physical characteristics, including sharp teeth, powerful claws, and the ability to climb trees and other surfaces.
They are particularly dangerous to Slugs, which they naturally hunt and consume.
Slughounds can be domesticated and trained for hunting purposes. Their loyalty to handlers makes them useful hunting animals, although their predatory instincts remain pronounced.
They are capable of tracking and capturing Slugs with considerable effectiveness.
Ogres and Ice Ogres
Ogres are large subterranean creatures possessing considerable physical strength.
Their size and strength make them potentially dangerous to smaller inhabitants, particularly when encountered in isolated environments.
Ice Ogres are a distinct type associated with colder underground environments.
Their presence demonstrates that SlugTerra supports large-bodied wildlife adapted to different climatic conditions.
Other Predatory Species
SlugTerra contains numerous additional creatures that can pose environmental or physical threats.
Mimics: Creatures capable of disguising themselves or imitating objects, making them potentially dangerous to unsuspecting travelers.
Crystal Worms: Large subterranean organisms associated with crystal-rich environments.
Magma Monsters: Creatures associated with volcanic and extremely hot environments.
Cavern Crawlers: Predatory or dangerous creatures adapted to subterranean terrain.
Lava Crawlers: Creatures associated with volcanic caverns and molten environments.
Dino Rats: Rodent-like creatures that form part of the underground food chain and serve as prey for larger predators.
Environmental Hazards
Not every dangerous encounter involves an animal attack.
Volcanic caverns, unstable rock formations, deep underground waterways, and other geographical hazards can be equally threatening.
Travelers unfamiliar with a particular cavern may encounter dangerous wildlife without having sufficient knowledge of local conditions.
Practical Considerations
Travel through undeveloped caverns requires awareness of the local wildlife.
Hunters, explorers, miners, and merchants operating in remote regions may encounter predators that are rarely seen near populated settlements.
Slugslingers can use their Slugs to defend themselves, but ordinary Blasters are not necessarily sufficient against every large creature.
Understanding local wildlife and avoiding unnecessary encounters remain important survival considerations.

Domesticated & Working Animals
Classification: Domesticated and Semi-Domesticated Fauna Primary Uses: Hunting, companionship, and specialized work Notable Species: Slughounds
Overview
Although Slugs occupy a particularly important position in SlugTerra's society, they are not the only animals that interact with humans.
Other subterranean species can be domesticated, trained, or kept in captivity.
Their usefulness depends on their physical characteristics, temperament, intelligence, and suitability for living alongside humans.
Slughounds
Slughounds are among the clearest examples of animals used for specialized work.
Although naturally predatory, they can be domesticated and trained to hunt Slugs.
Their excellent tracking abilities, climbing capabilities, and sharp teeth make them particularly effective hunting animals.
They are also capable of forming strong attachments to their handlers.
Despite their usefulness, Slughounds retain powerful predatory instincts and should not be confused with harmless companion animals.
Their natural prey includes Slugs, making them particularly dangerous to individuals carrying unprotected Slugs.
Animal Companionship
Animals can serve as companions as well as working creatures.
Their usefulness is not necessarily limited to combat or hunting, and individual animals can develop recognizable relationships with their handlers.
However, the extent of ordinary pet ownership and the variety of domesticated animal species throughout the 99 Caverns are not comprehensively documented.
Animal Training
Training is important when working with potentially dangerous animals.
Domesticated creatures must learn to respond to commands and recognize their handlers.
Animals used for hunting require additional training to track and capture their intended prey.
The effectiveness of such animals depends on their individual temperament and the quality of their training.
Livestock and Agriculture
SlugTerra possesses vegetation and food-producing environments capable of supporting human settlements.
However, the precise livestock industries, breeding practices, and agricultural systems of the 99 Caverns are not extensively documented.
It is therefore difficult to establish which animal species are routinely raised for meat, dairy, leather, or other commercial purposes.
The existence of SlugTerra's wildlife should not automatically be taken as evidence that every species is domesticated or commercially farmed.
Economic and Practical Importance
Working animals can provide specialized services that mechanical equipment or ordinary labor cannot necessarily replace.
Hunting animals such as Slughounds can assist with locating Slugs in wilderness environments.
Other domesticated creatures may provide companionship or serve specialized purposes.
Their usefulness depends on the relationship between their natural abilities and the requirements of their handlers.

Classification: Common Slug Element: Plant Star Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ Basic Rarity: Common Primary Abilities: Spikes, spines, quill projection, burrowing Preferred Habitat: Desert caverns and dry plains
Overview
Dirt Urchins are Plant-element Slugs specializing in the production and deployment of sharp spikes and spines.
Their abilities primarily revolve around physical defence and close-range combat. They can fire their spines at opponents, curl into a spiked ball, or burrow underground before striking.
Despite their relatively simple abilities, Dirt Urchins can be effective against airborne opponents and Slugs that rely on physical contact.
Physical Characteristics
Dirt Urchins possess a compact body covered in sharp spines.
Their Protoform is capable of sticking to surfaces like a burr and firing small needles from its body.
Upon reaching Velocity, their bodies develop into a more heavily armoured, spiked form. Their transformed anatomy allows them to roll into a ball, burrow through the ground, and release large volleys of spines.
Elemental Abilities
Dirt Urchins specialize in producing and launching sharp spikes.
Known abilities include:
Protoform Ability: Can stick to surfaces like a burr and fire tiny needles.
Sandburr: Curls into a spiky ball and strikes an opponent.
Chortlesnort: Shoots spikes from its body in a manner similar to a porcupine.
Kractus: Burrows underground to avoid being hit before slamming into an opponent with a spiky explosion.
Needlepatch: Explodes in mid-air, firing multiple rounds of spiny needles.
Biological Characteristics
Dirt Urchins possess specialized spines that can be launched as projectiles or used for physical defence.
Their ability to curl into a ball allows them to turn their external armour into an offensive weapon. Their burrowing ability also provides a means of approaching opponents while remaining difficult to target.
Although the species is classified as Plant-element, its documented abilities are primarily based on physical spines rather than plant growth.

Vinedrill
Classification: Uncommon Slug Element: Plant Star Rating: ★★☆☆☆ Strong Rarity: Uncommon Primary Abilities: Vine manipulation, spore production, plant growth, entanglement Preferred Habitat: Jungle caverns and rainforests
Overview
Vinedrills are Plant-element Slugs specializing in the manipulation of vines and the production of spores.
Their abilities are particularly versatile, with a strong emphasis on defensive techniques, immobilization, and battlefield control.
They can produce vines capable of restraining opponents, create barriers from interwoven tendrils, and release spores with irritating or incapacitating effects.
Vinedrills are particularly useful for protecting an area or restricting an opponent's movement.
Physical Characteristics
Vinedrills are predominantly green and white Slugs with pinkish eyes.
In Protoform, they can sprout small vines from their bodies and release spores.
Upon reaching Velocity, their bodies develop numerous vine-like limbs and tendrils. These appendages allow them to manipulate surrounding vegetation and produce larger plant structures.
Their transformed anatomy is particularly suited to restraining targets and creating defensive barriers.
Elemental Abilities
Vinedrills specialize in vine manipulation and spore-based attacks.
Known abilities include:
Protoform Ability: Sprouts small vines and releases spores that tickle the nose.
Itchypants: Shoots pouches of itching powder, resembling the spores of a puffball mushroom.
Tendrella: Causes vines to grow from the point of impact, binding an opponent.
Ivydust: Causes vines to sprout around an opponent, producing flowers that release sleep-inducing pollen.
Vinelash: Sprouts vines that wrap around an opponent while additional tendrils lash at the target.
Vinevent: Produces vines with funnels and spinning pods capable of drawing in and neutralizing harmful airborne gas.
Thicketthorn: Creates a wall of interwoven vines and tendrils. The resulting barrier tangles and cuts opponents attempting to pass through it.
Biological Characteristics
Vinedrills possess specialized plant-growing capabilities, allowing them to produce vines, tendrils, flowers, and spores.
Their abilities are not restricted to direct attacks. They can create barriers, restrain large targets, and establish defensive positions using rapidly growing vegetation.
Their transformed form possesses numerous vine-like limbs, allowing them to affect multiple targets or cover a wider area.

Neotox
Classification: Rare Slug Element: Plant Star Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ Basic Rarity: Rare Primary Abilities: Poison production, chemical attacks, corrosion, plant wilting Preferred Habitat: Swamps and marshes
Overview
Neotox are Plant-element Slugs specializing in poison production and chemical attacks.
Their abilities allow them to generate poisonous clouds capable of affecting living organisms, interfere with other Slugs, and corrode mechanical equipment.
Unlike many Plant Slugs that primarily rely on vegetation and physical restraints, Neotox use chemical effects to weaken opponents and damage their equipment.
Their abilities make them particularly dangerous when used against unprotected targets or equipment.
Physical Characteristics
Neotox are predominantly bright green Slugs with orange heads.
Their general appearance resembles that of Vinedrills, although the orange coloration across their heads provides a distinguishing feature.
Upon reaching Velocity, their bodies develop an elongated appearance resembling an alligator with a caterpillar-like tail.
Elemental Abilities
Neotox specialize in producing poisonous compounds and corrosive substances.
Known abilities include:
Protoform Ability: Causes nearby plants to wilt.
Toxicloud: Releases a poisonous cloud capable of paralyzing people who breathe it. The duration of the effect depends on the individual's level of exposure and can last from several minutes to several hours.
Slugblight: Releases a poisonous cloud that makes other Slugs sick, causing them to become reluctant to remain inside their shells.
Rustaloid: Releases a corrosive cloud that damages blasters and other equipment, gradually reducing their reliability and functionality.
Metalrot: Makes metal brittle and easier to break, allowing metal surfaces and structures to be damaged more easily.
Biological Characteristics
Neotox possess specialized chemical-producing anatomy, allowing them to release substances with different effects.
Their abilities affect both biological organisms and manufactured equipment. Their poisonous emissions can interfere with the nervous system of exposed individuals, while their corrosive attacks can weaken metallic structures.
Their ability to wilt nearby vegetation is also an unusual characteristic among Plant-element Slugs, demonstrating that their relationship with plant life is not limited to supporting plant growth.
Temperament
No specific temperament is established in the available species information.
