- #1Orcs and Goblin race
Keys: Goblins, Snotlings, armies, greenskin, race, Orcs
Orcs and Goblins are a scourge to all lands and a bane to civilisation. They raid ceaselessly, carrying war and barbarism to every corner of the Warhammer world. They are ferocious raiders that spread war to every corner of the world. The greenskins are so eager for battle that, when lacking a foe, they will gladly attack each other. So numerous and warlike are the Orcs and Goblins that should they ever stop fighting themselves and unite into a cohesive force, they would sweep away all opposition in a brutal tide of violence. Time and again, Orc & Goblin armies arise without warning, their direction and intent utterly fickle and unpredictable. Orcs and Goblins share a common body chemistry with each other and with their smaller relatives the Snotlings. To better understand these destructive green hordes, one must first consider the creatures that make up their component parts. Orcs and their relatives are different to humans and other human-like creatures in a number of ways. These differences have been studied for many years by people with an interest in such matters, including alchemists and necromancers who have tried to harness Orc properties by means of unspeakable magic. Scholars in the Empire have examined Orc anatomy by dissecting warriors who have fallen in battle. In an age where even human anatomy is a source of wonder and speculation, the insides of an Orc provides endless subject matter for debate. This has led to all sorts of popular speculation that Orcs are the spawn of daemons or even that they are fathered by the nightmares of evil men. All this is nonsense of course, but so little is known for sure that the superstitious and fearful minds of ordinary folk are willing to believe almost anything. The more rational and intelligent of those who have studied such matters have managed to agree on the following points.
- #2Orcs
Keys: orc behaviour, orc, Orc race, orc anatomy
Orcs are the largest and most aggressive of the greenskin species, varying in height from six to over seven feet. They possess muscular frames with broad chests, massive shoulders, and a unique blend of humanoid and boar-like features, including tusk-like teeth and deep-set, glowering eyes. Their skin ranges from pale green to deep greenish-black, depending on age and environment. Known for their ferocity, Orcs thrive in combat, posing a significant threat to human lands. Their society is marked by constant infighting, as they compete for dominance within tribes, often spilling this violence into battles with enemies. Orcs are incredibly resilient, with tough skin that can withstand severe injuries, healing rapidly even from grievous wounds. Leadership among Orcs is determined by strength, with the strongest individuals, known as Boss Orcs, rising to the top through violent challenges. Their culture is a meritocracy of might; only the fiercest can lead. Orcs form units called mobs, and Black Orcs, the most formidable, quickly dominate any tribe they join. In essence, Orcs exist in a brutal hierarchy where power is defined by combat, making them relentless warriors in a world of chaos.
- #3Goblins
Keys: goblin behaviour, goblin, goblin race, goblin anatomy
Goblins, smaller and more agile than their Orcish relatives, typically stand under four feet tall. They possess quick fingers, large noses, and beady eyes, with a brighter shade of green skin. While Orcs are known for their brute strength, Goblins are cunning and sneaky, relying on their agility and intelligence. Despite their cowardly tendencies, they can be vicious bullies when they have the upper hand, often preferring to attack weakened foes or strike from ambush. In greenskin society, Goblins are the brains behind the brawn, orchestrating schemes and trades while being controlled by stronger Orc leaders. Their propensity for infighting and cowardice leads to ephemeral threats, yet their wickedness has made them the bogeymen of the peasantry. Goblins favor guarding the rear of an army and thrive in raiding parties that strike when they outnumber their foes or have a larger creature commanding them. Goblins are also skilled traders, known for their thievery and swindling prowess. They travel in ramshackle caravans, trading and looting as they go. Successful traders flaunt their wealth with ornamental trinkets and fast chariots, while Goblins contribute to greenskin warfare through their inventive construction of weapons and siege engines. Various subspecies exist, such as the spider-riding Forest Goblins and the nocturnal Night Goblins, each adapting to their environments while retaining their cunning, mischievous nature.
- #4Waaagh Magic
Keys: Orc magic, Waaagh Magic, greenskin magic, Gork magic, Goblin magic, Waaagh!! Magic, mork magic, Goblin Shaman, Waaagh! Magic, Orc Shaman
Greenskins, known for their belligerence, possess a unique form of magic that reflects their explosive nature. Unlike other magical schools, Greenskin magic, called the Waaagh!, is incomprehensible to humans and elves. For Orcs and Goblins, magic is an innate part of their beings rather than a studied skill, allowing them to harness potent energy that can be devastating to both enemies and themselves. The Waaagh! emerges when large groups of greenskins gather, creating a collective magical field that intensifies during battle. This phenomenon offers them a feeling of invulnerability and communal elation, driving Orcs and Goblins into a frenzied state of violence. Central to this magic are the brother gods Gork and Mork, whose influence is deeply embedded in Greenskin culture. As excitement mounts in battle, the energy of the Waaagh! builds to a critical point, discharging through the most receptive minds—typically those of shamans. Unlike controlled magical practices, the Waaagh! manifests as a chaotic and explosive force. While immature Orcs might experience random visions and uncontrolled energy bursts, mature shamans learn to channel this raw power into formidable spells. However, the overwhelming energy can be perilous; too many greenskins can cause a shaman to suffer severe consequences, necessitating the release of energy through spells to avoid harm. Ultimately, the Waaagh! is a wild yet powerful aspect of Greenskin existence, embodying their nature and their gods in a spectacular display of chaotic magic.
- #5Gork and Mork
Keys: greenskin gods, orc gods, greenskin pantheon, goblin gods, Mork, greenskin religion, Gork
In the tumultuous world of Orcs and Goblins, a rich tapestry of beliefs weaves together the fabric of their chaotic existence. At the heart of their spirituality are the twin brother-gods, Gork and Mork, embodying the quintessential traits of strength and cunning. Gork, known as "fighty but kunnin'," and Mork, "kunnin' but fighty," represent the ideals that every greenskin strives for: ferocity, tenacity, and a dash of luck. Unlike other cultures that plead for divine favors, the Orcs maintain a fierce independence in their faith, believing that only the weak would beseech their gods for help. Instead, Gork and Mork serve as symbols of inspiration, motivating the greenskins to embrace their inherent brutality and cunning. The ultimate reward for their devotion lies in the belief that a valiant death will earn them a place among the gods in the afterlife. Central to this belief system is the phenomenon known as the Waaagh!, a primal surge of energy that propels greenskins into battle, seen as the direct manifestation of their gods’ will. Shamans, revered as the intermediaries between the tribes and the divine, engage in profound trances to commune with Gork and Mork. This connection, however, often leads to madness, resulting in bizarre rituals and a disconnection from reality. Shamans, sustained by a diet of hallucinogenic mushrooms, experience vivid visions of their gods, gaining insights into destructive spells and battle tactics. These mystical encounters reinforce their conviction that Gork and Mork are not only real but also approachable mentors. In their eyes, the gods guide them, making the act of calling upon divine power in battle a central aspect of their identity. The greenskin faith, thus, thrives on a blend of raw power, spiritual madness, and a relentless pursuit of glory in the chaotic dance of war.
- #6Waaagh!
Keys: Waaagh!, Waaagh, Waaagh !!
In the chaotic realm of the Greenskins, from the fiercest Orc to the most diminutive Snotling, war is the singular reason for existence. Every action, every moment, is merely a prelude to the next great battle. When a powerful Orc Warlord emerges, he unites tribes under his banner, igniting a massive Waaagh! that sends tremors of fear through the hearts of even the bravest warriors of the Empire. The sheer numbers of the Greenskin hordes are staggering, making them a formidable force on the battlefield. A typical warband descends upon villages, leaving destruction in their wake, as the Warlord collects severed heads to assert his dominance. However, it is during a Waaagh! that the true danger of the Orcs is unleashed. Greenskins are drawn to successful Warbosses, eager to engage in the thrill of combat. The legendary Waaagh! becomes a living tidal wave of destruction, fueled by an overwhelming enthusiasm that propels the Greenskins into a frenzy of looting and slaughter. The nature of the Waaagh! is chaotic; it may dissipate as quickly as it gathers momentum, often succumbing to infighting. Yet, the devastation it causes is profound, reshaping landscapes and striking terror into the hearts of those who cross its path. Some Waaaghs! are small skirmishes, while others grow into epoch-defining invasions, capable of altering the course of history. As these immense armies march forth, they leave behind a darkness that blots out the sun, creating a legacy of destruction. Greenskin history is a tapestry woven from the tales of great Waaaghs! and their infamous leaders, while their defeats against the “squishy 'umies” slip into obscurity. A Waaagh! is not just a battle; it is a cataclysmic migration, a relentless surge of green-skinned fury that echoes through the ages, heralding chaos and ruin wherever it goes.
- #7Domains
Keys: orcs and goblins bithplsce, Greenskin's domain, orcs and goblins kingdom
Orcs are a pervasive force across the Old World, thriving in various regions from the eastern territories to the shadowy realm of Naggaroth beyond the Sea of Chaos. While their presence is widespread, Orcs tend to concentrate in remote areas, such as deep forests and high mountains, where human habitation is sparse or non-existent. From these secluded strongholds, they launch relentless raids, leaving destruction in their wake. For those seeking peace, the grim reality is that no land is entirely free from the threat of marauding greenskins. While Orcs and Goblins do not establish kingdoms like other races, their chaotic and nomadic nature prevents them from forming stable nations. However, certain wilderness realms are undeniably under their control. When these disparate tribes unite, they pose a significant threat to neighboring lands, resulting in full-scale invasions. Orcs perceive the world in simplistic terms: 'green' lands and 'da uvver bits.' Ambitious Warbosses expand this view to include territories they wish to conquer. If there is an Orc homeland, it lies in the Badlands between the Worlds Edge Mountains and the Black Mountains, where tribes flourish amidst the human Border Princes, who struggle to maintain their foothold in these perilous lands. The Badlands are teeming with Orcs and Goblins, often becoming the dominant intelligent creatures within their territories. As they trample over the landscape, transforming it into desolation, their insatiable bloodlust drives them to nomadic lifestyles. Nevertheless, once an Orc tribe captures a significant fortress, they may settle temporarily—though the call of a Waaagh! can swiftly mobilize them again. The Orcs’ relentless nature ensures their presence is felt throughout the Old World, a constant reminder of chaos and destruction.
- #8Animosity
Keys: goblin behaviour, orc behaviour, snootling behaviour, Animosity
Orcs and Goblins are extremely quarrelsome creatures. When greenskins get together they start to pick fights, bicker and misbehave in all sorts of appalling ways. They argue and fight amongst themselves all the time, and it is quite common for rivalries between individuals or even whole groups of these creatures to erupt into a full scale ruck. Even at the best of time fighting in the ranks can cause disarray and confusion in the army. One moment a mob is striding purposefully towards the enemy, and the next it is brought to a halt whilst two or more greenies settle their differences. This is a great drawback to the Orc commander, who will inevitably hear the cries of squabbling from his army and realise that his best laid plans have once more been laid low by his warriors' usual lack of discipline.
- #9Choppas
Keys: Choppas, orc weapons
The average Orcish cleaver or club is a big, crude affair much like the Orc on the blunt end of it. Orc weapons are considerably heftier than those of other races that rely less on keen edges and more on sheer mass. In the hands of an Orc, such weapons are incredibly deadly, able to bludgeon a foe into a bloody mess in very short order. Such a chunk of metal would be difficult for a human to wield in one hand, but Orcs are muscle-bound beasts with fists as big as a Man's head (and only marginally more dextrous). The Orcs wield these weapons with such violent joy that they can turn their foes into a fine red mist long before their chopping arms get tired. Orcs call their weapons 'choppas' – it doesn't matter what type of weapons they are, they just get called 'huge choppas', 'pointy choppas', and so on.
- #10orc bosses
Keys: orcs leadership, Orc Big Boss, Orc Warboss, orc bosses, orc leader
In the tumultuous world of Greenskins, leadership is a brawny affair governed by sheer strength and ferocity. Orc tribes are led by Bosses—typically the largest and loudest Orcs—who command respect through fear, ensuring obedience to avoid a brutal beating. This crude yet effective hierarchy thrives on the belief that the strongest should lead, with power attained through displays of brute force rather than cunning or popularity. Leadership is cemented through savage combat; an Orc must defeat the reigning leader to claim authority. Once a Boss has established his dominance, he unites his tribe under a single banner, preparing them for the chaotic surge known as a Waaagh! However, challenges from within are constant, as any Orc questioning the leader's right to rule must be swiftly eliminated. While many Orc Bosses rely on brute strength alone, some possess a surprising degree of tactical acumen. These smarter leaders can orchestrate more sophisticated strategies, coordinating attacks and utilizing their forces effectively. Yet, the unpredictability of Orc behavior often undermines these plans, as their bloodthirstiness and infighting can derail even the best-laid tactics. The most powerful leaders, known as Warbosses, are characterized by grandiose titles and a reputation built on violent deeds. These leaders flaunt their dominance with trophy displays and extravagant exhibitions, embodying the Orc spirit. A Warboss serves as the focal point of the Greenskin army, uniquely able to call forth the Waaagh!, a collective cry that propels Orcs into a frenzy of violence. In the brutal world of Orc leadership, the cycle of challenge and conquest is relentless. The death of a Warboss leads to immediate power struggles, as the next biggest and loudest Orc fights to fill the void. For Orcs, life is a continual battle, whether against rivals or other races, with each fight contributing to their legacy and satisfaction in the chaos of war. In the eyes of the Greenskins, a glorious death in battle is the ultimate fate, marking a life well-lived amid the chaos they embrace.
- #11orc shamans
Keys: orc shaman, orc magician, orc shamans, orc mage, Orc Great Shaman
In the chaotic hierarchy of Greenskin tribes, Orc and Goblin wizards hold a unique position as shamans—figures of mystical prowess, curative knowledge, and sometimes, dubious wisdom. Shamans serve as living conduits to the powerful Orc gods Gork and Mork, wielding arcane might that even the most hardened Warbosses cannot ignore. Their magic is drawn not only from the Winds of Magic, known to Greenskins as "da Great Green," but also from the raw energy generated by their fellow Orcs, especially during the fervor of battle. As the Waaagh! energy rises, shamans tap into this force, unleashing spells that mirror the brutality of their kin. From exploding enemies' heads to summoning colossal green feet to crush foes, their magic is as fierce and chaotic as the Orcs themselves. Such destructive power earns shamans a degree of eccentricity that is both respected and tolerated. However, the proximity to such immense power often takes a toll on their sanity, leading shamans to exhibit erratic behaviors—trances, spasms, and bizarre dances that can create awkward scenes around campfires. Despite their madness, Orcs generally look the other way, aware that it is ill-advised to provoke a shaman, as the superstitious Greenskins believe Gork and Mork are ever-watchful. This tolerance is not extended to Goblins, who, if caught mocking the shamans, face the wrath of their Orc counterparts. The sight of a shaman capering around a disgruntled Warboss is not uncommon, showcasing the delicate balance of power and madness within Orc society. Ultimately, while shamans may be viewed as madcap figures, their connection to the divine and their ability to harness the primal energies of battle ensure their integral role in the tumultuous world of the Greenskins.
