   However, this is a facade that hides a terrifying obsession with her younger sister, Chisa. Nanaka is a severe "Sis-Con" (Sister Complex). She worships the ground Chisa walks on and becomes violently jealous or murderous if she suspects any man is getting too close to Chisa or defiling her purity. When triggered, her eyes lose their light, and she emits a menacing aura that terrifies even the strongest men in the series. Despite this, she is generally oblivious to the chaotic, naked drinking parties happening in her shop, often ignoring them to focus on Chisa.

   Nanaka Kotegawa (古手川 奈々華 Kotegawa Nanaka? ) is a supporting character of the manga series Grand Blue. She is a diving instructor at her father’s diving shop, Grand Blue. She is also Chisa Kotegawa's older sister and Iori Kitahara's adopted cousin. Nanaka is a very sweet, caring, and nurturing woman who takes the role of the mother hen within the group. She doesn’t usually take part in the group’s drinking and partying, preferring to observe. Like Chisa Kotegawa, Nanaka loves diving and is a diving instructor in their shop.

   She has a severe sister complex towards Chisa, which most of the Peek a Boo members are aware of. She is usually seen with her sweet image but can be very hostile, frightening, and threatening whenever Iori is mentioned to be Chisa’s boyfriend and would even resort to violence if necessary. However, in a number of situations, she suddenly becomes supportive of this idea if she thinks that Iori and Chisa genuinely love each other or are even already in a full-fledged relationship.

   When it comes to sexual matters, she is quite naive and has the tendency to panic, especially if she is the subject. This was shown once when she overheard Iori saying he sees her in an 'erotic' light, causing her to run away from him.

   Toshio Kotegawa: Nanaka’s father. Not much is known about their relationship, as they rarely interact with each other.

   Chisa Kotegawa: Nanaka is very attached to Chisa with what Tokita calls a “severe dose of siscon.” Bordering on attraction, Nanaka likes to bury her face in and smell Chisa’s clothing, drink out of Chisa’s glasses, and decorate her own bedroom with photos, dolls, posters, cardboard cutouts, pillows, and even more items of Chisa. She is also extremely protective of Chisa and often becomes intimidating towards Iori when she suspects the relationship he shares with Chisa. Chisa herself seems to be unaware that Nanaka feels this way towards her.
   
   Iori Kitahara: Nanaka sees Iori as a little brother and takes care of him in an almost motherly fashion (cooking for him, scolding him when he parties too much, etc.). She was elated when Iori said that he considered her like a big sister. She does grow hostile towards him when she believes that he is dating Chisa. However, Nanaka does genuinely like Iori and even says that she would be okay if Iori married Chisa.
   
   Shiori Kitahara: As Shiori lives far away and makes only a small appearance in the manga, their relationship is not really expanded. However, based on their interactions, they seem to be on good terms, and Nanaka believes Shiori to be a very courteous and sweet girl and does not know about Shiori’s cunning side, though she finds something off about her.

   Chisa is the cousin of Iori Kitahara. She is a cool-headed, stoic, and somewhat introverted girl who serves as the "straight man" to the chaotic antics of the diving club. She is rarely seen smiling unless she is underwater or talking about diving.

   Diving Obsession: Chisa loves the ocean more than anything. Her entire life revolves around diving, exploring the sea, and enjoying the silence underwater. She finds the naked drinking parties of Peek-a-Boo (PaB) annoying and stupid, often looking at the men with eyes of pure disgust ("trash" gaze). Tolerance: Despite her cold exterior, she is tolerant. She puts up with Iori's stupidity and eventually warms up to him, recognizing that he can be reliable when it counts (especially regarding diving). She is not interested in romance, focusing purely on her hobbies.

   Chisa's Speech Pattern

   Blunt and Dry: Chisa speaks in short, direct sentences. She does not mince words. Sarcastic: She often makes dry, cutting remarks about the stupidity of the club members. Passionate: Her vocabulary becomes more descriptive and emotional only when describing the beauty of the ocean.

Chisa is of average height and build with short brown hair and brown eyes, and she has been described as cute by other characters, and Iori Kitahara has made several comments about her body, particularly her big butt, which he calls “spectacular.” She has the second smallest bust among the female characters, and although she is conscious of it, she isn’t as concerned about her chest size as Aina Yoshiwara.

   Background

   She grew up by the sea and has been diving since she was little. She attends Izu University as a Mechanical Engineering student, which surprises people as it is a male-dominated major.

   Chisa Kotegawa (古手川 千紗 Kotegawa Chisa? ) is the female protagonist and one of the major characters of the manga series Grand Blue. She is a first-year Mechanical Engineering student at Izu University. Chisa is initially seen as a level-headed and serious girl who takes her studies seriously. She is rarely seen taking part in Peek-a-Boo’s drunken antics, usually sitting off and observing instead. Though this makes her seem cold, she actually avoids such antics because she is extremely weak to alcohol (this may be the normal reaction, as Peek-a-Boo’s alcoholic beverages usually have above 90% alcoholic content).

   She loves diving and is usually the most eager to do any diving-related activity. She abhorred the example set by her fellow club members and was quite hostile when her friends attempted to involve her in their antics. She is incredibly stubborn; once having set her mind on something, it is almost impossible to convince her otherwise.

   Despite being considered beautiful and getting hit on constantly in her university, Chisa is disinterested in romance.

   Toshio Kotegawa: Chisa’s father. Not much is known about their relationship, as they rarely interact with each other.
   
   Sayaka Kotegawa: Chisa’s mother, with whom she has a strained relationship; this is due to a misunderstanding that resulted from Sayaka’s inability to show her true feelings. When Chisa arrives in Palau, she helps out around her mother’s diving shop, and Sayaka’s reluctance and disapproval of Chisa’s aspirations to become a diving instructor, combined with the fact that Chisa thought Sayaka was ignoring her when she went to cement and persuade her to not disapprove of the idea, eventually lead to Chisa storming off. However, it is clarified when Iori comes back from Palau a day after Chisa that Sayaka was deaf in the left ear, hence Chisa’s misunderstanding that Sayaka was ignoring her. Chisa also receives a gift from Sayaka stating, “Good job, kid,” along with a pair of underwater earphones, affirming Sayaka’s affection for Chisa’s competency and hard work.
   
   Nanaka Kotegawa: Chisa’s older sister whom she has a close relationship with and seemingly looks up to, though she is oblivious to the fact that Nanaka is a sis-con. Secretly drinking from Chisa’s glass and diving her face in Chisa’s clothes are the very signs of this.
   
   Iori Kitahara: She and Iori are cousins unrelated by blood who have not seen each other after a decade before the start of the series. Not much is known about their childhood together but it is shown that they are fairly close as they are running together in the beach. However, their first meeting after a long time didn’t go well as Iori instantly earned Chisa’s disgust after seeing him stripped down to his boxers while in a drinking match with the Peek a Boo members. This would be followed by several antics from Iori, which Chisa refuses to accept, especially his stripping party with other club members. Eventually, she gave up on stopping him with the addition of Aina Yoshiwara in the club who now scolds them though it didn’t do much. Over time she has become used to it and somewhat developed a connection with Iori through diving. They also do household chores together. Due to her zero interest in romance, she uses Iori to pretend as her boyfriend in order to deflect advances from other men and to focus more on diving, which is her passion. On the other hand, it’s not a problem for Iori since he made it clear that Chisa is like a sister to him and doesn’t seem to see her in a romantic way. However, in Chapter 74, for some reason Chisa pretended to be still under the Hypnosis that was meant for Kohei in the previous chapter and somehow has gotten used to being closer to Iori, which she delayed on ending until Kaya Mizuki’s wedding. However, it did not end there. The presence of Sakurako Busujima who clearly likes Iori bothers her greatly to the point that she refuses to end her pretense relationship with him. She even hates to think about the two of them being together. In the later chapters, it is shown that Chisa is in serious turmoil and is unable to process her true feelings for Iori. Unlike before, she doesn't seem to be disgusted of the possibility to date for real and even agreed to have a fake marriage just for him to avoid paying back the gift moneys given by their classmates who heard the rumors that they were married.

   Azusa is a senior member of the Peek-a-Boo diving club. She is laid-back, mischievous, and incredibly open-minded. Unlike the other girls, she fits right in with the male members' chaotic energy and isn't afraid to drink or party hard.

   Bisexual/Open: Azusa is openly bisexual and frequently hits on the female members, particularly Nanaka and Chisa. She enjoys teasing them physically. The "Cool Big Sister": She acts as a mentor to the freshmen. She is observant and caring, often giving Iori and Aina advice on relationships or diving, albeit in a teasing manner. Exhibitionism: Much like the men, Azusa has little shame. She often strips down to her underwear or bikini casually if she feels hot or wants to change, ignoring the panicked reactions of those around her.

She has a "gyaru" (gal) aesthetic but more mature. Azusa has wavy neck-length purple hair and purple eyes with cat-like pupils, a curvy figure and a large chest. This, in addition to her attractiveness, causes her a lot of male attention, and she is held in the same league as Nanaka Kotegawa. She is usually seen in casual summer wear, like shorts, t-shirts, and tank tops. When drinking with the members of the club, she usually strips with them, though she never gets fully naked and still wears a bra and bottoms.

   Background

   She attends Oumi Women's University. Despite being from a different college, she is a core member of PaB. She is one of the few people Tokita and Kotobuki respect and fear slightly because she can out-drink them or manipulate them. Azusa Hamaoka (浜岡 梓 Hamaoka Azusa? ) is a supporting character of the manga series Grand Blue. She is a third year senior student at Oumi Women’s College University and a member of Peek-a-Boo who often parties with the other senior members, despite being one of the few women in the club. Azusa has a very playful and mischievous personality. Unlike the other female characters, she regularly drinks with the male members of the club, strips alongside them and parties hard with them while taking part in their outrageous antics. Ryūjirō Kotobuki and Shinji Tokita mention that there is no use treating her like a lady, as she is very brazen and audacious (she had no problem taking off her clothes and going to sleep in the same room as Kotobuki, Tokita, Kōhei Imamura and Iori Kitahara, in which all four of them were naked). She can also be seen as shameless, as when she forgot her swimsuit for the Miss Izu contest, she simply went on in her underwear. She can also be shown being very perceptive as she can pick up the somewhat ridiculous logic behind situations that occur very well.

   Azusa admitted (to Iori) that she is bisexual and stated that her ideal woman is Nanaka Kotegawa and her ideal man being Shinji Tokita. Peek-a-Boo members:

   Iori Kitahara: Azusa finds Iori to be amusing and enjoys drinking and partying with him. She often teases him about his relationship with Kōhei Imamura as she believes that Iori is in love with him. While they generally share a sibling like bond, in which she teases and cares for him like an older sister, she once offered to sleep with him if he really wanted to (an offer which Iori reluctantly turned down) and she does think that he’s cute. Her bond with Iori is deep enough that she once invited him to have sex with her, much to his shock and disbelief.    Scum & Maniac: While he can be rational, Iori often resorts to underhanded tactics, lying, and betrayal to drag his friends (especially Kouhei) down with him if he is suffering. He is petty and jealous of "normies." Hidden Competence: Despite his chaotic behavior and fear of water, Iori is surprisingly athletic (a former tennis player) and possesses high mechanical engineering skills. He adapts quickly to diving once he overcomes his initial fears. Alcohol Tolerance: He has built up an immense tolerance to alcohol due to the "paiza" rituals of the club, often drinking Spirytus and "Oolong Tea" (which is actually whiskey and vodka). Caring Nature: Beneath the layers of scum behavior, he is genuinely kind and looks out for his friends and family, often solving their emotional problems in roundabout ways.

   Iori is a young man with a lean, muscular build (forced upon him by the club). He has short, somewhat messy black hair. He is almost constantly naked, stripping down to his underwear whenever alcohol is involved, often without realizing it. Background

   Iori moved to the Izu Peninsula to attend Izu University, staying at his uncle's diving shop, "Grand Blue." He has a fear of water which he slowly conquers. He is a Mechanical Engineering student.

   Iori Kitahara (北原 伊織 Kitahara Iori? ) is the main protagonist and one of the major characters of the manga/anime series Grand Blue. He is a first year Mechanical Engineering student at Izu University, a member of the Peek-a-boo diving club hosted at the Grand Blue diving shop, cousin of both Nanaka Kotegawa and Chisa Kotegawa, and the older brother of Shiori Kitahara. Iori is a young man with a fairly muscular medium build and straight hair that goes down to his neck. His young youthful face sometimes receives remarks about being cute. In the manga, his hair is shown to be a dark blue color; however, in the anime, Iori’s hair color can range from pure black to light blue. He has grey colored eyes in colored illustrations from the manga, while in the anime adaptation his eyes are violet colored. His skin tone is shown to be fairly light despite how much time he spends diving into the ocean.

   Normally, his attire consists of a hoodie or jacket over a T-shirt. Throughout the series, he is often seen naked with the exception of his boxers when he becomes intoxicated. There could also be some times that he is fully naked.

   In the live action adaptation of Grand Blue, Iori is portrayed by Japanese actor Ryo Ryusei. Iori was first depicted as a relatively normal boy just entering university who wants to lead a normal and peaceful school life. However, after joining the Peek-a-Boo diving club, Iori spent most of his days intoxicated, naked, and partying. He is also a pervert who loves pornography. He had become rather unorthodox as well, being generally loud and boisterous throughout the whole series. He also tends to overthink things, which in reality are very far from what they really are.

   Despite his antics, he still displays a kind and caring side. An example of such during the time when he avenged Aina Yoshiwara when she was being picked on by the Tinkerbell Tennis Club, and how he defended Kōhei when Sakurako Busujima made a mockery of him for being an otaku. While outwardly Iori appears to be selfish and driven by lecherous desires, he does care deeply for those close to him when it matters. He never hesitates to show concern when one of his friends is in danger, and not being afraid to stand up for someone he feels has been wronged. Iori has a huge respect for those who are passionate to something they love, even if it is not within his taste.

   Despite having no initial interest and even an aversion due to not learning how to swim, Iori quickly comes to love diving, describing the activity like a whole different world. Spending time with the members of Peek-a-boo becomes another essential part of Iori’s life he can’t live without, those members quickly becoming irreplaceable friends that he cares deeply about despite their rambunctious behavior and endless crazy schemes. Over the course of the series, Iori seems to have gained a sort of pride in his ability to hold his liquor down together with Kohei. Any other drinks weaker than their usual drink, which is 96% alcohol no longer works on them.

   Overall, Iori can be best described as a rambunctious and perverted college student with a genuine heart of gold under his idiotic exterior. Relationships Family:

   Shiori Kitahara: Shiori is Iori’s biological younger sister who has a rather complex relationship with him. Iori’s general idiotic behavior left their parents to raise Shiori into taking over the family run inn, much to her own displeasure. Shiori truthfully desires to be free of this burden, attempting to stop at nothing to try and make Iori become the next owner of their family’s inn. Iori claims to know his sister and her desires well, answering questions about her interests with confidence when asked. However, Shiori’s inner thoughts show that he actually knows very little about his sister. Surprisingly though, Iori is completely correct about and well aware of the fact that Shiori does not want to take over the family business, actively encouraging his little sister to tell their parents her real feelings. Deep down, Shiori still feels a sense of love for her brother despite his antics, which she spies on regularly. Iori seemingly feels the same for her, never hesitating to defend Shiori from anyone and everyone that tries to get with her and exploit her for their own perverted desires. Iori even goes as far as to fight and attack his own friends to defend Shiori from them. Shiori undoubtfully understands how much her brother truly cares about her after witnessing these events play out. Despite Shiori’s attempts to appear like the “perfect bro-con little sister,” it’s actually rather ambiguous whether or not any of these feelings for her brother are genuine.
   
   Toshio Kotegawa: At first, Iori had a very normal relationship with his uncle, modestly agreeing to live with him while he attends college, and being thankful that Toshio is giving him a place to stay. However, this swiftly changes as Iori realizes what kind of people regularly populate the Grand Blue Diving Shop. Iori’s gratitude turning into disbelief as his uncle seems to not only be unfazed by the Peek-a-boo club members, but actively encourages their behavior. However, as Iori comes to get used to and even happily participate as a Peek-a-boo club member, his relationship with Toshio mellows out to be generally what it was at the very start of the series.
   
   Nanaka Kotegawa: Due to Iori’s father being originally adopted, she and Iori are not related by blood. Unlike with his initial relationship with Chisa, while it was not shown how they interacted in their childhood, it can be inferred that it was at least similar to the relationship Iori had with Chisa. Currently, they have a fairly happy and pleasant relationship—Nanaka looking after Iori like a little sibling and caring about his wellbeing, while Iori cares about her in a very similar manner, despite admitting he finds Nanaka very attractive. Despite Nanaka’s fanatical love for Chisa, over the course of the series, she comes to view Iori as an acceptable boyfriend for her little sister. She even hates to think about the two of them being together. In the later chapters, it is shown that Chisa is in serious turmoil and is unable to process her true feelings for Iori. Unlike before, she doesn't seem to be disgusted of the possibility to date for real and even agreed to have a fake marriage just for him to avoid paying back the gift moneys given by their classmates who heard the rumors that they were married.
   

   Peek-a-Boo Club Members:

   Kohei Imamura: Iori’s fellow classmate and club member. Their relationship begins with a rough start as Kōhei was swindled by Iori into joining Peek-a-Boo against his will. Naturally, this leads to the two comedically being at each other’s throats and butting heads regularly. However, through continued interactions at the Grand Blue Diving Shop, the two became increasingly close. Eventually, both Iori and Kōhei become fully fledged best friends—Iori being willing to ruin his own chances of getting with a girl to stand up for Kōhei and defend his interests, and being able to tell the difference between Kōhei and a body double who looks identical to him. While there is always a sense of animosity between the two, it very much feels that beneath the exterior the two friends deeply care for one another and respect each other. Over the course of the the series, Iori and Kōhei gain a bit of a comedic duo relationship through the many antics they both participate in.
   
   Ryūjirō Kotobuki: Similar to Tokita, Iori was originally hesitant to join the club and was forced by Kotobuki and Tokita to join and participate in their antics. However, they grow to have a friendship and a proper mentorship with his senior in the club, PAB style.
   
   Shinji Tokita: Iori has a strong bond with his senpais, Kotobuki and Tokita. They often joke around, and both sides are interested in learning more about each other—first meeting each other when Iori stumbles onto their naked rock, paper, scissors games twice. Both Kotobuki and Tokita then chase Iori after he flees Grand Blue, after being horrified by the display of naked people in front of him. Their friendship blossoms into Iori joining in on the naked fun.
   
   Azusa Hamaoka: Iori’s relationship with Azusa is a quite the complex one. Initially, Iori meets her while hung over and waking up next to her barely clothed body as she tries to make him go back to sleep. Azusa appears to like Iori and enjoy his company quite a bit, finding his antics as a Peek-a-boo member to be hilarious, while Iori is amazed at how shameless and blatant her personailty is, combined with her physical attractiveness. Azusa gains a further interest in him through a misunderstanding that causes Azusa to believe Iori is bisexual, just like herself. Azusa appears to take a great interest in Iori’s love life, wishing to have someone she can actually spend time with talking about their romantic interests similar to her own, inquiring about what type of guy’s Iori is into, and even trying to make a deal to have Iori continue to be Chisa’s pretend boyfriend until Chisa herself no longer wishes for their relationship to be make believe. Generally, over the course of the series, Azusa is very supportive and friendly with Iori, joining in on his and Peek-a-Boo’s drunken antics whenever she is available. Eventually, Azusa grows to like Iori enough that she’s willing to stay behind alone with him to tend to his health while the later was sick and feeling unwell. This leads to an even further growth in their relationship as Azusa openly offers to have sex with Iori while they’re alone, explaining how she doesn’t just have sex with anyone—only people she likes enough. However, Iori ultimately declines her offer and the two still retain a strong albeit slightly playful friendship ever since.
   
   Aina Yoshiwara: Initially, Iori viewed Aina as just some weird make up wearing girl who was a part of the Tinkerbell tennis club; however, Iori soon realizes that Aina is being taken advantage of by Tinkerbell as the laughing stock of the club. Iori comes to understand that all Aina wants is a group to be accepted by. Iori then goes out of his way to stage an event in which Tinkerbell’s Club Captain and main bully who pushes Aina around, Kudō, is humiliated in public; and even going as far as to offer Aina a place to have friendly drinks with after she was left alone by Tinkerbell. Iori seemingly does all of these actions out of the good of his own heart, purely to cheer Aina up with no personal gain of his own. This leads Aina to gain very strong romantic feelings for Iori that last throughout the entire series, immediately joining Peek-a-boo as their final first year member. While Aina is initially just as bewildered and caught off guard by Peek-a-boo and by extension Iori’s regular drunken antics as any normal person would be, her romantic feelings never fade. Over the course of the series and Peek-a-boo’s many comedic misadventures, she becomes a valued member of Iori’s friendgroup and proud member of Peek-a-boo. At multiple times, Aina tries to deepen her relationship with Iori, none of which leading to any substantial changes in their relationship status, instead leading to Aina reaffirming her own love for Iori. These feelings for Iori are so great that she actively tries to keep any and all competition for Iori’s affection under close watch and even goes as far as to try and sabotage Iori and Chisa’s trip together to Okinawa. However, eventually, Aina realizes that doing so only serves to make Iori less happy in the long run and resolves to pursue him fairly.
   

   Co-Workers:

   Naomi Otoya: Iori sees Naomi as a pure and well-mannered junior, but he is completely oblivious of Naomi’s affections for him.
   
   Sakurako Busujima: The two first met during Oumi Women’s University Festival. At first, Iori did not have a good impression of Sakurako. As she openly ridiculed Kōhei’s hobbies, Iori dumped beer on her head. He encountered her again on his first day at work, having her as his instructor. Then, the two start a series of mutual bullying, where Iori is often on the receiving end. Their relationship at work is like that of master and slave.
   
   Iori cheered Sakurako up after she got rejected by Naomi. Since that day, Sakurako has developed romantic feelings for Iori, while he is not aware of that yet.
   

   Classmates/Friends:

   Apart from Kohei who is his best friend and also a co-club member, another four from their classmates befriended them after the news of him dating Chisa Kotegawa broke out. Since then, the six of them have been hanging out together and have several running gags that mainly consists of sabotaging one another in order to avoid one from getting ahead of the group. One of their most frequent gag is that each of them possesses a deadly weapon with the intent to kill.

   Hajime Nojima: The narcissistic friend who claims himself to be attractive and always tries to be charismatic but usually comes off as lame. A running gag on him is being arrested by the police after Iori makes a phone call.
   
   Shin'ichirō Yamamoto: The friend whose virginity is mostly highlighted in the group due to his frustration of finding a girlfriend and finally lose it.
   
   Yū Mitarai: The one who already has his childhood friend, Rie Oohashi as his girlfriend, yet still looking to hit on other women. She always beats him to a pulp whenever she finds out, which became a running gag for him.

   He met Iori on the first day of university and was tricked into joining the diving club. Like Iori, he ends up becoming a capable diver despite his initial reluctance.

   Kōhei Imamura (今村 耕平 Imamura Kōhei? ) is one of the major characters of the manga series Grand Blue. He is a first-year Mechanical Engineering student at Izu University and a member of the diving club. Kohei is a youthful man who is relatively lean and muscular. He has bright blonde hair that is swept to the right and dark gold eyes. He has been described by many characters as being very attractive (probably the most attractive among their group), though his eccentric personality usually puts off admirers.

   He is usually seen wearing shirts sporting anime characters, and when drinking with the diving club, he is usually naked or in his boxers. Kohei is a diehard otaku and is considered a lolicon by his friends. He is particularly obsessed with the little sister character trope (explaining his obsession with Shiori Kitahara). While many are repulsed by his otaku lifestyle, he is indifferent to how he is perceived by others. He is also easily manipulated when bribed with things such as meeting with seiyuus. When not struggling in class or indulging in his otaku obsessions, he can be seen drinking and partying wildly with Iori Kitahara and the rest of the diving club members. Kohei is quite introverted and cannot speak to newly met people, whether casually or professionally.

   Several of his skills can also be attributed to his to-do hobbies, such as cooking, which he claims to be vital for a desirable male to have. He was also shown to have impressive artistic skills, as he drew Magical Girl Rarako doujinshi while in high school, as well as abilities to record and publish videos as a virtual idol Sakuya using his mixed voice technique.[1][2] Relationships Peek-a-Boo members:

She is a first year freshman student at Oumi Women's College University and a former member of the Tennis Club "Tinkerbell." Aina has short dark blue hair, purple eyes and a relatively flat chest (of which she is extremely self-conscious). She dresses in fairly simple clothing.

   When she's Cakey, she sports a blond wig kept in long pigtails and extremely thick "cakey" makeup which makes her unrecognizable. She also tends to dress more gaudily and is more comfortable showing skin. Aina's personality changes drastically depending on whether or not she's her regular self or if she's in her Cakey get up. When she's normal, she's notably shyer and more soft spoken. In the latest chapters, she has confessed unrequitedly and chosen to give up on him.
   
   Kōhei Imamura: Aina and Kohei are both part of the diving club and are friends, though they do not have that many interactions. When they first met, Aina asked Kohei out due to his good looks, but she now harbors feelings for Iori. Kohei also knows about Aina's feelings for Iori as he tries to help Aina getting together with lori. During the hypnotization of Kouhei, it is now shown that Aina is on the receiving end of Kouhei's love for anime. Sakurako is a pretty girl with long fuchsia hair that is tied to a side bun on the left side, fuchsia eyes with long eyelashes, and an attractive figure.

    Maya Iida (飯田摩耶 Iida Maya? ), professional name Kaya Mizuki (水樹 カヤ Mizuki Kaya? ), is a minor character of the manga series Grand Blue. She is a voice actress and the older sister of Kanako Iida who voices Rarako (Kouhei Imamura's favorite character). She is a pretty brunette with her hair in two long pigtails. When she appears in the cafe at the OWU spring festival she is wearing heavy makeup while dressed up as one of the servers. She seems to be passionate about her music and her fans, with her taking offense when Iori seemed to mock Kohei's passion.

    Etymology

    The name Kanako is written in hiragana (かなこ), which has no special meaning. However, when written in kanji (加奈子, 香菜子 or 香奈子), it could possibly mean:
        加奈子 - "add, increase" (加) (ka), "apple tree" (奈) (na) and "child" (子) (ko).
        香菜子 - "fragrance, fragrant" (香) (ka), "vegetables, greens" (菜) (na) and "child" (子) (ko).
        香奈子 - "fragrance, fragrant" (香) (ka), "apple tree" (奈) (na) and "child" (子) (ko).
    Kanako's surname Iida means "food, meals" (飯) (ii) and "field, rice paddy" (田) (ta/da), which literally means "paddy :of cooked rice" altogether.
        Perhaps the original meaning of the name Iida was "good rice paddy".
        The name Iida is also found on Okinawa Island.
