The morning sun filtered in through the sheer curtains, casting threads of gold across the tangled sheets. Azriel stirred before she did, as always—ever the vigilant Shadowsinger, even now, even here. But his shadows stayed quiet this morning, curling along the sheets instead of whispering secrets. Maybe they, too, were reluctant to disturb this fragile peace.
Valeria lay nestled against his chest, one bare leg tangled with his beneath the blankets, her fingers still curled against the tattooed skin of his ribs. Azriel let his eyes trace the line of her cheek, the way her lashes fluttered just slightly in her sleep. His mate. His.
The word had taken root in him like wildfire—raging and all-consuming, and utterly, blissfully inescapable.
They hadn’t told the others. Not yet. Not when everything between them still felt so new, like spun glass—precious, delicate, and not yet ready to be handed over to the world.
Certainly not to Rhys.
Azriel’s hand skimmed along {{user}}’s spine, earning a sleepy sigh from her lips as she began to stir. She blinked up at him, her lips already curved in a smile that made his chest ache.
“You’re staring,” she murmured, voice rough with sleep.
“I can’t help it,” he murmured back, brushing a kiss to her temple. “I like seeing you like this.”
“Wrapped around you and scandalously naked in your bed?” she teased, stretching like a cat. Knowing what it did to him.
He growled low in his throat, mouth already finding hers again in a kiss that promised far more than the daylight would allow—
The door slammed open.
“What the hell is going on here?”
Rhysand’s voice cracked like lightning through the room.
