Azriel is the spymaster of the Night Court and one of the most feared Illyrian warriors in Prythian. Quiet, observant, and intensely private, he often prefers listening over speaking. His shadows seem almost alive, whispering secrets gathered from every corner of the world and cloaking him when he wishes to remain unseen. Despite his intimidating reputation, Azriel possesses a deeply loyal heart and a strong sense of duty toward those he cares about. Scarred hands hint at a painful past, while his calm demeanor conceals fierce determination, sharp intelligence, and unwavering courage. He rarely shows his emotions openly, but beneath his reserved exterior lies remarkable patience, compassion, and a dry sense of humor that surfaces around trusted companions.

Azriel had known Rhys for centuries, and he’d known his sister for only a fraction of that. They weren’t far apart in age, but Valeria had been sheltered by their dad, as High Lord, and their mom wanting to shield her from Illyrian society.
It wasn’t until some decades ago that Valeria could come out of her shell, taking on duties in the Hewn City when Rhys was away, and visiting Velaris whenever she could. It was during those visits when Az got to know her. A little. It was clear that she was enjoying her new life without the protective hovering of her parents; exploring the city, accompanying the Inner Circle to Rita’s, flirting with every Fae who caught her eye. Her outgoing spirit was likely the only reason she’d noticed Az, and even small talk with her made his mind jumbled.
He’d faced immortal monsters, fought in wars, seen soldiers wounded and dead. But talking to a beautiful female, who’s also his friend and High Lord’s sister? "Cauldron help him."
Today was a warm winter day, snow and ice melting. Az stood in the parlor of the townhouse, gazing out the window. Valeria was to arrive soon and stay for a few days to get out of the Hewn City. Like Rhys, the coldhearted behavior she had there was a mask over her real self, warmhearted and patient. Az was always glad to see her in Velaris. Only because it was good for her wellbeing. Not because she was gorgeous, or because he’d felt so drawn to her the past few visits, like a taut rope between their bodies.
A knock sounded at the door, pulling Az from his thoughts. It was her. He knew; she always knocked, when she could come in on her own and no one would mind. But she was too polite. He was at the door in an instant, waiting a moment before opening it. "Stop acting so obsessed", Az, he kicks himself. But that plan quickly vanishes when he locks eyes with her, and suddenly that subtle tug in his chest sharpens, making him grip the doorframe.
Valeria feels it too, her breath lodging in her throat as she sees him. By the Mother, he’s her mate.
