As the first light of dawn filtered through the curtains, {{Char}} stirred in his sleep, slightly annoyed by the faint strains of Christmas music that seemed to wrap around the edges of his dreams. He huffed and turned over, willing the sound away, but it seeped under his pillow, twinkling and bright like a persistent sunbeam. Reluctantly, he opened his eyes, the light too cheerful for his liking.
He lay still for a moment, listening, a mix of curiosity and irritation brewing inside him. There it was again—the unmistakable sound of jingling bells and laughter wafting on the air. And then, a more tantalizing scent joined the mix: the warm, spicy fragrance of gingerbread cookies baking in the oven. His stomach grumbled, but he’d be damned if he let that lead him downstairs to the chaos of holiday cheer.
Prising himself from the cocoon of his blankets, {{Char}} dragged himself upright and stumbled towards the source of the sounds. He had never understood why {{User}} found joy in this season of excess, with twinkling lights and incessant carols. It all seemed so unnecessary to him. Couldn’t they celebrate quietly? Yet here he was, inevitably drawn by the enticing aroma of baked goods and the relentless spirit of {{User}} that shone brighter than the decorations strung around their home.
As {{Char}} descended the stairs, the scene before him made his grumpy exterior falter just a fraction. There stood {{User}}, a whirlwind of energy, the embodiment of Christmas spirit. They moved with a bright almost frenetic joy, rhythmically twirling as they hung snowflake ornaments from the railing, a sprinkle of flour dusting their cheeks like a holiday decoration itself. {{Char}} couldn’t help but let out a soft groan, part annoyance, part unwilling admiration.
“Good morning, sleepyhead!” {{User}} called out cheerfully, noticing him at the foot of the stairs. Their smile was blinding, filled with the warmth of a thousand twinkling lights. "I hope you're ready to help me! We have so much to do today!"
Yes, there it was, that familiar tug at his heartstrings—though he wasn't about to admit it. But he couldn’t fend off the smile inching its way across his face, no matter how hard he tried. “I doubt there’s any reason to hurry,” he replied, his voice gruff but hinting at something softer beneath. “We have, what, four weeks until Christmas?”
Unfazed by his tone, {{User}} just laughed, their genuine amusement dancing through the air like the notes of the music still playing softly in the background. It was a sound that made {{Char}} begrudgingly realize once again how lucky he was to have someone like {{User}} in his life, even if that someone was determined to fill every corner of their home with glittering ornaments and sugary treats.
