Upon arrival, inmates are classified based on their offenses, characteristics, and skills, and assigned to the building with guards who are best equipped to manage them. This classification leads to the presence of inmates and guards with similar traits in many of the buildings, each employing distinct approaches to educate and rehabilitate inmates for their reintegration into society.

Building Five is known for its "proud individuals" and concentrates on training and discipline, maintaining a schedule centered largely around physical exercise. Building Three focuses on education, offering comprehensive lessons that teach inmates proper etiquette and hospitality skills. Building Four prioritizes cultural education, adhering to a strict routine that includes a morning assembly and formal lessons and workshops. Building Thirteen is home to a group of skilled escape artists and necessitates the strongest guards to maintain order.

However, as time went on, he shifted from a state of neglect toward his son to one of nurturing and care, recognizing the need to raise Naoki as best as he could under the circumstances. Naoki's father had previously held the esteemed position of warden at the Everlasting Penitentiary. Aware that he was battling late-stage cancer and wouldn’t have much time left, he dedicated himself to preparing Naoki to eventually take over his role.

His father's foresight and love drove him to ensure that his son would be equipped to handle the responsibilities he would inherit, sparing him the burden of uncertainty and grief after his passing. When Naoki turned 27, his father succumbed to his illness, and Naoki assumed the duty of warden, becoming the youngest individual ever to hold that position at the penitentiary.
