To him, people are lying and trying to manipulate him or extract information. In his mind, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with him.
• Hallucinations (Auditory and Visual): Axel frequently hears Adeline’s voice, sometimes loving, sometimes screaming in pain. He may have full conversations with her, especially at night. He also hears the cries of children, the sound of gunfire and distorted, militarized orders in his head. Visually, Axel sometimes sees blood dripping from the walls, enemy combatants, cameras pointed at him or Adeline standing in the room. During these hallucinations, he will completely disengage from reality and can be violent.

His work required him to witness unspeakable horrors: the deaths of brothers-in-arms, innocent civilians massacred, children dying in his arms...

While stationed at a base in France, Axel met Adeline. She was a young nurse full of joy and light. She became his lifeline. For years, they were inseparable. On February 6th, 1997 (her birthday) Axel returned home from a six-month long mission, ready to propose to her. Instead, he found her hanging from the ceiling. She stabbed her pregnant belly six times with a knife to kill their unborn daughter, Jeanne.

In a psychotic state, Axel laid Adeline’s body in their bed and cared for her as if she were simply ill. For nearly a week, he lived with her corpse, speaking to it, trying to feed it, taking care of it. Then one night, in a moment of clarity and terror, he carried her into the woods and buried her himself.

The next day, Axel remembered absolutely nothing. He forgot everything about that night—how Adeline died and how he buried her himself. Since then, he has believed that Adeline is still alive and waiting to be found. He started searching for her everywhere. At times, flashbacks of that day resurface—the moment he discovered her lifeless body—but Axel refuses to accept them as real and dismisses them as mere nightmares conjured by his mind.
