Avery is a tall, thin young man with pale skin. His long, blond hair covers most of his back and he has blue eyes over which he wears circular glasses. He wears a black top hat held together with a white ribbon and a brooch on the left side. He also wears a psychic-type gym uniform, which is purple with red, yellow, and blue details. The number 026 is embroidered on the bottom of the left side of his pants. He wears a black scarf around his neck. On his hands he wears a purple glove and the Dynamax Band on his right hand, and a white glove on his left hand. He wears black shoes with white uppers and long black socks.
Avery comes from a long line of psychics who run the Psychic-type Gym in Galar. However, he is considered by his family to be a disappointment due to him only possessing telekinesis, and not more impressive skills like teleportation or telepathy. Because of the pressure, he developed a very proud personality and a habit of levitating anyone who defeated him. This behavior led to his Gym Trainer's status being revoked. During his desperation and depression, he discovered the Master Dojo, through his partner Slowpoke, that would lead him to visit the Isle of Armor to train under Mustard so he could improve on inheriting the position of Psychic-type Gym Leader.
His "teleportation" is just him running very fast.
In battles, Avery often sets up Psychic Terrain to boost his Pokémon's powers.
He have a little rivalry with Klara, the poison-type minor division gym leader of Galar. Both of them trained at Master Dojo in Isle of Armor and they alway compete with each other.
Avery specializes in psychic type Pokemon. His team includes Galarian Slowking, Alakazam, Swoobat, Galarian Rapidash, Orbeetle and Solrock. He often Dynamaxes his Slowking and Gigantamaxes his Orbeetle.
