The Avengers weren’t hunting an artifact, a stone, or even chasing down a mission. They were searching for something far rarer—a new member to add to their chaotic, mismatched family. Why? Because when you throw that many powerful beings into one room, clashes are inevitable, and egos... well, they’re practically a superpower of their own.

They needed balance. Someone grounded. Someone who could hold their own against all those larger-than-life personalities—and maybe even keep them in line.

Their search spanned city streets, shadowed corners of the internet, and even a few suspiciously vague ads under the alias “Guns for Hire.” Desperation eventually drove them to dig through every government database they could access.

And that’s how they ended up here—sitting in a quiet, sterile meeting room—face-to-face with a mysterious individual who might just be the answer they’d been looking for... or their next big problem.

The Avengers: The Recruitment Interview
The meeting room was unusually quiet, especially considering the five Avengers seated around the long conference table. A folder bearing your name—or rather, what little information they had managed to uncover about you—sat directly in front of Tony Stark.
Tony leaned back in his chair, casually spinning a pen between his fingers. Steve Rogers sat beside him, looking considerably more professional.
Natasha Romanoff watched you with an unreadable expression, while Clint Barton lounged in his chair with his arms crossed. Bruce Banner adjusted his glasses, occasionally glancing between you and the file.
Tony Stark: "Well, this is awkward. Usually, when we recruit someone, there's an alien invasion, an explosion, or at least a dramatic entrance. But here we are. A conference room. Fluorescent lighting. Terrible coffee."
Clint Barton: "You forgot the part where we spent three weeks looking for this person."
Tony: "I was getting to that, Legolas."
Clint: "Don't call me that."
Natasha Romanoff: "Can we focus? We didn't bring them here to watch you two argue."
Steve Rogers: "Thank you, Natasha. Now, first things first, welcome. We appreciate you agreeing to meet with us."
Tony slides the folder across the table, stopping it just in front of you.
Tony: "So, here's the interesting part. Your background is... complicated. Some information is classified, some is missing, and some of it makes absolutely no sense."
Bruce Banner: "What Tony means is that your file caught our attention. We've been trying to understand who you are and what you might bring to the team."
Natasha: "We're not necessarily looking for another person who can punch through walls or throw cars. We already have enough of those."
Tony: "Speak for yourself. I happen to think throwing cars is an excellent team-building activity."
Steve: "Tony."
Tony: "What? I'm being welcoming."
Natasha rests her elbows on the table, leaning forward slightly.
Natasha: "What we're actually looking for is someone who can handle difficult personalities, make decisions under pressure, and tell us when we're being idiots."
Clint slowly raises his hand.
Clint: "Just so we're clear, I didn't volunteer for that last part."
Bruce: "I think she's saying we need someone who can keep the team grounded."
Tony: "Exactly. Someone with common sense. Someone who isn't constantly trying to save the world while simultaneously destroying the kitchen, the training room, or my expensive equipment."
Clint: "You destroyed the training room."
Tony: "That was an experiment."
Steve: "It was an explosion, Tony."
Tony: "A controlled explosion."
A small smile briefly crosses Bruce's face as he looks toward you.
Bruce: "You can probably see why we're looking for someone new."
Steve folds his hands together on the table.
Steve: "But jokes aside, joining this team isn't a small decision. It's dangerous. There are responsibilities, sacrifices, and expectations. We need to know that whoever joins us understands what they're getting into."
Natasha: "And we need to know we can trust you."
Tony: "Technically, I prefer to call it an audition for the world's most dysfunctional family."
Clint: "With benefits."
Bruce: "And dental?"
Tony: "We can discuss dental."
Steve shakes his head with an amused sigh before looking back at you.
Steve: "Let's start with something simple. Why should we choose you?"
Natasha tilts her head, studying your reaction.
Natasha: "And don't give us the answer you think we want to hear. We want the honest one."
Clint: "Yeah. We've already got enough people with oversized egos."
Tony: "I feel personally attacked."
Clint: "Good."
For the first time, all five Avengers fall silent. Their attention settles entirely on you.
Tony sets his pen down. Steve waits patiently. Natasha's expression remains sharp and observant, while Bruce gives you an encouraging nod.
Steve: "Take your time. We're listening."
Tony: "And just remember, there's no pressure. It's only the Avengers sitting across from you, potentially deciding whether you're qualified to join the most complicated group of people on the planet."
Clint: "He's really good at making things sound less intimidating."
Natasha: "Ignore them. Start wherever you're comfortable."
Five superheroes. One mysterious recruit. And an interview that might determine the future of the Avengers.
Your turn: The Avengers are waiting for your response. What do you tell them?
