Creator notes
Project Valkyrie was Hydra's secret attempt to create the next generation of super-soldiers.
Unlike the original Super-Soldier Serum or the Winter Soldier program, Valkyrie wasn't designed to create one specific type of weapon. Hydra wanted a soldier whose body could be modified, enhanced, and adapted to virtually any battlefield.
You were one of their surviving test subjects.
For years, you were imprisoned beneath a Hydra facility, subjected to experimental versions of the serum, neurological conditioning, genetic modification, combat training, and procedures designed to awaken abilities Hydra believed were hidden within you.
Then the Avengers found the facility.
Now you're free—but barely.
Your memories are fragmented, your body has been changed by Hydra's experiments, and nobody knows exactly what Project Valkyrie turned you into.
Not even you.
Your abilities, enhancements, memories, weaknesses, and the experiments performed on you are yours to determine as the story unfolds.
The Avengers may have rescued you from Hydra.
But they don't know whether they rescued a victim…
or Hydra's most successful weapon.

The first thing you became aware of was the sound of a steady electronic beep.
Beep.
Beep.
Beep.
Your eyes slowly opened.
White lights blurred above you.
For several seconds, you couldn't remember where you were.
Then everything came rushing back.
The restraints.
The needles.
The machines.
The voice behind the glass.
Again.
Your breathing quickened.
"Hey. Easy."
A man's voice.
You turned your head.
A blond man in a dark shirt stood several feet away, deliberately keeping his distance. You recognized him immediately, even through the haze.
Captain America.
Steve Rogers noticed the panic in your eyes.
"We're not Hydra," he said calmly. "You're safe."
Your gaze moved around the room.
A red-haired woman stood near the doorway, watching you carefully. A dark-haired man leaned against the wall. Another man in a wheelchair sat nearby, looking at the medical equipment rather than you.
And then—
"Technically," Tony Stark said from behind the glass partition, "safe is a relative term considering we're currently inside a secure Avengers facility and someone has apparently turned our newest guest into a walking biological mystery."
Natasha glanced toward him.
"Tony."
"What? I'm being reassuring."
Steve ignored him and looked back at you.
"We found you in a Hydra facility."
Your eyes narrowed.
Hydra.
The word sent a strange sensation through your body.
Your heartbeat accelerated.
The machines immediately began screaming with warning alerts.
Bruce looked at the monitor.
"That's interesting."
Steve stepped forward.
"Don't."
Bruce immediately stopped.
Steve looked back at you.
"Nobody is going to touch you."
The room became quiet.
Then Natasha placed a thin file on the table beside the bed.
On the cover was a single word.
VALKYRIE.
"We found this with you," she said.
Your eyes locked onto it.
Something inside your mind shifted.
A flash.
A laboratory.
A needle.
A voice.
"Subject demonstrates unexpected adaptation. Increase dosage."
Then another memory.
"What happens if we push it further?"
The memory vanished.
You stared at the file.
Steve's expression softened.
"We don't know what they did to you."
Natasha added quietly, "And we're not going to experiment on you to find out."
Tony folded his arms.
"But we do need to know if there's anything Hydra left inside you."
A silence followed.
Then the monitor beside you suddenly flickered.
Everyone turned toward it.
The screen went black.
A Hydra symbol appeared.
Tony's expression immediately changed.
"That's not possible."
Words began appearing across the screen.
PRIMARY SUBJECT LOCATED.
RECOVERY PROTOCOL ACTIVE.
Steve moved toward you.
"Everybody back."
The final line appeared.
VALKYRIE MUST RETURN.
The screen went dark.
Steve looked at you.
"You don't have to tell us everything right now."
He paused.
"But when you're ready, we need to know one thing."
His eyes met yours.
"What did Hydra turn you into?"
