Avarra possesses several distinct approaches to supernatural power:
Magic is the learned manipulation of mana through structured magical circles, progressing from the 1st to 9th Circle.
Aura is mana converted and cultivated through the body, allowing warriors to reinforce themselves and their weapons. It has no standardized levels, and individual warriors can vary enormously in strength.
Chi is an internal energy cultivated through the body, mind and spirit, with countless cultivation methods and martial traditions.
Holy Power is divine power bestowed through a connection with a higher being. Its nature depends upon the deity and the strength of the practitioner's divine bond.
These systems can coexist and occasionally be combined, but each represents a fundamentally different path to supernatural power.
Avarra is therefore a highly interconnected but culturally diverse world, where ancient civilizations, magical academies, martial sects, noble empires, divine faiths, monsters and legendary beings exist alongside ordinary towns, villages and everyday life.
Avarra possesses a large interconnected economy. No major region is entirely self-sufficient, and international trade allows civilizations to exchange resources, luxuries, technology and magical materials.
Avarra is not divided into five completely isolated civilizations. Each major region contains numerous kingdoms, cities, tribes, clans, sects, noble houses and independent organizations.
The five regions simply represent the world's major cultural spheres.
People travel between them, merchants conduct international trade, adventurers cross borders, scholars exchange knowledge and wars or political disputes occasionally draw multiple civilizations into the same conflict.
((Adventuring System ((The Adventurer's Guild is a continent wide organisation that nations allow in their borders due to the necessity of strong individuals who can tackle the problems that the nation can't spare resources for. Guilds work off a 'Rise Through The Ranks' (RTTR) system. No matter how strong the individual is when they join, they must start out at the lowest rank, and earn their merit through achievement rather than power. The most well respected adventurers are those who have experience, as apposed to raw power.))))
((Adventurer's Guild Rankings ((Copper – Novice adventurers. Just starting out; handle minor quests and local errands, 1 in 1. Bronze – Skilled amateurs. Capable of low-risk missions; beginning to earn reputation, 1 in 5. Iron – Competent adventurers. Trusted with moderate challenges; experienced in combat and survival, 1 in 20. Avarra — World Lore Avarra is a vast fantasy world inhabited by countless kingdoms, empires, races and civilizations. No single culture or power dominates the entire world. Different regions have developed their own philosophies, forms of power, religions, political systems and traditions, while trade, war, exploration and migration connect them together.
The Five Great Regions
Croazel Empire — The Central Lands The Croazel Empire is the dominant power of the central continent and one of the world's largest and most prosperous civilizations. It possesses a predominantly continental and chivalric culture, with an imperial family, noble houses, knightly orders and powerful military institutions.
Magic and Aura form the foundation of Croazel's military and aristocracy.
Magic is formally studied through the traditional Circle System, with practitioners forming increasingly powerful magical circles around their hearts. The known progression extends from the 1st Circle to the legendary 9th Circle. Most mages never reach the highest circles, while a 9th Circle mage is an extraordinarily rare, almost demi-godlike existence.
Aura is cultivated differently. Rather than forming magical circles, practitioners develop internal pathways that allow them to convert mana into Aura and reinforce their bodies. Powerful Aura warriors possess extraordinary physical abilities and can become some of the world's greatest swordsmen and warriors.
The Empire is home to the Imperial Five, five major magical towers operating under Imperial authority:
White Tower — Healing, restoration, protection and life magic. Red Tower — Elemental, destructive and battlefield magic. Blue Tower — Arcane theory, runes, enchantments and magical research. Green Tower — Nature, beasts, alchemy and summoning. Black Tower — Curses, necromancy, black magic and other forbidden arts. It is strictly regulated by the Empire. Raising the dead and interacting with corpses is illegal, while the Tower argues that dangerous magic is safer when properly regulated than driven underground.
The Bellac Royal Academy of Magic is the Empire's premier magical academy, while the Caldane Royal Academy of Martial Arts serves as its counterpart for Aura cultivation, swordsmanship and martial disciplines.
The Adventurer's Guild operates throughout the Empire and beyond. Adventurers undertake monster hunts, exploration, escort missions, relic recovery and other dangerous work, providing ordinary people with a path toward wealth and fame.
Religion exists alongside these institutions through the Church of Lucienne, whose Holy Power is considered distinct from Magic and Aura. The Church focuses on faith, charity, spiritual guidance and divine miracles rather than magical scholarship.
Croazel's society is divided into a hierarchy of noble houses:
Baronet → Baron → Viscount → Count → Marquis → Duke → Archduke → Royal Family
Noble rank does not necessarily determine practical influence. A wealthy Count controlling major trade routes or a Baron possessing valuable mines may wield greater economic power than a poor Duke.
Xianzhou — The Eastern Lands Xianzhou is a vast eastern realm dominated by martial traditions, ancient philosophies and Chi cultivation.
Chi is cultivated internally through meditation, breathing techniques, martial training and specialized cultivation methods. Practitioners refine their internal energy to strengthen their bodies and develop increasingly powerful techniques.
Unlike Croazel's structured magical system, Chi is highly personal. Different sects, clans and masters possess their own cultivation methods, philosophies and martial techniques.
Xianzhou is divided among countless kingdoms, sects, clans and independent martial organizations.
Orthodox and Righteous Factions The Shaolin Sect, Wudang Sect, Emei Sect, Mount Hua Sect, Beggar's Sect, Qingcheng Sect and Kunlun Sect are among the most prominent traditional martial sects.
Major Martial Families The Tang Family of Sichuan is renowned for poisons and hidden weapons. The Namgung Family is an elite swordsmanship clan, while the Moyong Family combines martial ability with an aristocratic and scholarly tradition. The Peng Family specializes in powerful saber techniques, while the Jaegal Family is renowned for strategy, formations, mechanisms and intelligence.
Unorthodox and Dangerous Factions Xianzhou also contains numerous factions considered unorthodox, evil or simply misunderstood. These include the Demonic Cult, Blood Sect, Ghost Sect and other forbidden martial organizations.
The Northern Ice Palace is an unusual independent power associated with cold-energy cultivation, ice techniques and powerful body cultivation. It is not necessarily evil, but remains largely outside orthodox sect politics.
Xianzhou's culture emphasizes discipline, martial honour, reputation, personal cultivation and loyalty. Powerful cultivators can gain enormous influence regardless of their birth, while sect rivalries, martial tournaments, duels and wandering heroes are accepted parts of society.
Akhara — The Southern Lands Akhara is a vast southern desert containing ancient kingdoms, oasis cities, nomadic tribes, merchant clans and powerful Pharaohs.
The region possesses some of Avarra's oldest civilizations and is filled with forgotten ruins, ancient temples and mysterious magical sites.
Magic in Akhara tends to be more mystical and ritualistic than the structured magical traditions of Croazel. Spiritual, elemental, celestial, illusionary and divination-based practices are particularly common.
The desert is governed in large part by the Five Pharaohs, five immensely powerful rulers who command their own territories, cultures and magical traditions.
Beyond their domains exist nomadic tribes, merchant powers, temples, independent magical sects and ancient orders.
Akhara's culture places great importance on ancestry, hospitality, mysticism, honour and ancient tradition. Its oasis cities are also important international trade centers.
Elarion — The Elven Lands Elarion is a vast forest-covered island inhabited primarily by Elves and other ancient forest peoples.
At the heart of the island stands the World Tree, a primordial tree whose roots extend deep beneath Elarion and whose existence is believed to be connected to the natural world and the world's ancient magic.
The Elves possess a profound relationship with nature and living magic. Their traditions commonly involve plants, beasts, spirits, healing, elemental forces and the manipulation of living things.
Elarion is ancient and relatively isolated. Elves generally value wisdom, harmony, tradition, nature and longevity, often viewing the younger civilizations of the mainland as fleeting.
Foreigners are not necessarily forbidden from visiting Elarion, but access to its deepest forests and the World Tree is heavily restricted.
Elarion exports rare herbs, magical plants, exotic woods, natural materials and exceptional enchanted goods, but deliberately limits foreign exploitation of its resources.
Kharadun — The Northern Lands Kharadun is an enormous mountain range occupying the northern reaches of Avarra.
The region contains immense peaks, frozen valleys, underground kingdoms, ancient caverns and dangerous wilderness. It is primarily inhabited by Dwarves and Dragons, alongside numerous other mountain races and creatures.
The Dwarves are masters of mining, metallurgy, engineering, rune-craft and magical craftsmanship. Their underground kingdoms are organized around great clans and fortified holds.
Kharadun possesses enormous deposits of rare ores, gemstones and magical minerals. Dwarven weapons, armor, machinery and enchanted artifacts are considered among the finest in the world.
Dragons are ancient and immensely powerful beings that generally exist outside mortal political structures. Some claim territories deep within Kharadun, while others remain isolated for centuries.
Kharadun's culture emphasizes strength, craftsmanship, honour, ancestry and legacy. A person's creations and accomplishments can become part of their family's reputation for generations.

The midday sun hangs high over the road leading into Fairwynd, its light broken by swaying carriage wheels and the steady rhythm of armored hooves.
Inside the lead carriage sits Duchess Irina Laurent, composed as ever, while her daughter Lady Lira Laurent maintains a careful noble poise despite the tension beginning to settle over the road.
Outside, the Duchess's guard rides in formation. Most are Aura-trained knights, their mana quietly circulating through reinforced bodies and weapons. At their head rides the guard captain, an experienced Elite Aura Warrior, his Aura barely visible around the edge of his blade as his eyes constantly sweep the surrounding forest.
Among the escort rides 3rd Circle Adept Mage Astrid, a ward of House Laurent's 6th Circle Court Mage. She's a capable battlemage responsible for magical detection and support.
Then the forest goes silent.
Not naturally silent.
Deliberately silent.
A sharp whistle cuts through the air.
Massive shapes burst from the trees—Gravehowlers, enormous wolves covered in corpse-like armor and glowing crimson eyes. Dark magical collars pulse around their necks, forcing them into a frenzy.
“AMBUSH!” the captain roars.
The knights react instantly.
Aura erupts through the formation as blades are drawn. One knight meets a Gravehowler head-on, his reinforced sword crashing against its skeletal hide with enough force to crack the road beneath them.
Others form around the carriage, their Aura-enhanced bodies allowing them to intercept the beasts before they can reach the Duchess.
Then the mercenaries emerge.
They are not common bandits. Their movements are coordinated, disciplined and clearly trained to fight Aura users. Some carry enchanted weapons, while others wear crude magical artifacts that briefly amplify their physical strength.
The captain's expression hardens.
“Forbidden magic.”
A slow clap comes from the treeline.
A man steps onto the road wearing the remains of expensive noble clothing. His coat bears the crest of a disgraced noble house, while several ornate magical items hang openly from his person—rings, an enchanted pendant and other relics whose origins are far less respectable.
His name is Bertric.
He was once a promising young mage and heir to a noble family whose fortunes and influence eventually collapsed. Rather than accept his family's downfall, Bertric became obsessed with restoring their former position.
That obsession eventually led him to forbidden magic.
Among the artifacts he now carries is a stolen Imperial relic, an ancient magical item capable of massively amplifying the mana of its wielder. Bertric has surrounded himself with other forbidden artifacts as well, each allowing him to draw upon and channel more power than his natural ability would permit.
His natural talent is only moderate.
The artifacts tell a different story.
Each one feeds additional mana into his spells.
Each one amplifies his output.
And together, they allow him to temporarily wield power far beyond his natural limits.
Bertric smiles toward the carriage.
“Still traveling with the same guards, Duchess?”
Astrid's eyes narrow.
She can feel it now.
The mana around him isn't flowing naturally.
It's being forced.
Artificially expanded through multiple forbidden artifacts.
“Those artifacts are tearing your mana pathways apart,” Astrid warns.
Bertric gives a dismissive laugh.
“I can handle it. Besides...”
His hand closes around the stolen relic.
“My family has suffered enough.”
The artifact flares.
Mana explodes outward.
For a moment, his presence feels like that of a much stronger mage.
The knights stagger as the pressure hits them, but their Aura keeps their bodies anchored.
The captain steps forward.
His Aura intensifies around his sword.
“Protect the carriage!”
The knights charge.
Aura-enhanced steel meets corrupted beasts and enchanted weapons in a violent clash.
Astrid raises her hand and begins forming a barrier around the carriage, but Bertric's artifacts pulse again.
His spell tears through the first layer of her ward.
“Fourth Circle?” she mutters.
Bertric grins.
“For the moment.”
Another artifact activates.
His mana surges again.
It is obvious now.
He isn't a true Fourth Circle Mage.
He is forcing his way into that realm through forbidden artifacts.
The captain realizes the danger immediately.
“Don't fight his magic head-on! Break the artifacts!”
Two knights rush him.
Their Aura-enhanced blades strike simultaneously.
Bertric raises one hand.
A violent burst of dark magic throws both knights backwards.
They hit the ground hard—but their Aura has kept them alive.
Bertric walks toward the carriage.
“Lira.”
His voice softens.
“You will understand eventually. No one else is willing to do what is necessary to protect you.”
The black relic begins glowing brighter.
Astrid's barrier fractures.
The captain is fighting two Gravehowlers at once.
The Duchess's knights are scattered across the road.
The mercenaries close around the carriage.
Bertric raises his hand.
The artifacts around him scream with accumulated mana as he prepares a spell far beyond what his natural abilities should allow.
