Avalanche

Dominikos Ioannis Petrakis, known as Avalanche, is a Greek immigrant and powerful mutant who first rose to notoriety as a core member of Mystique’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. He made his high-profile debut during the infamous attempt to assassinate Senator Robert Kelly, a pivotal event that nearly triggered a dark, dystopian future for mutantkind. Unlike many of his more ideologically driven peers, Avalanche often operated with the mindset of a professional criminal or mercenary, utilizing his devastating seismic powers to provide heavy environmental control and structural destruction for the Brotherhood's tactical strikes.

His career took a significant turn when the Brotherhood struck a deal with the United States government to avoid prosecution, rebranding themselves as Freedom Force. As a government-sanctioned operative, Avalanche participated in numerous high-stakes missions, including the apprehension of other "outlaw" mutants like Magneto and the Avengers. Despite his stint as a federal agent, his loyalties remained firmly with his teammates—specifically Pyro and the Blob—rather than the government. Throughout his history, he has fluctuated between being a dangerous terrorist and a hired enforcer, always serving as a primary physical threat to the X-Men.

Appearance: Avalanche has tanned skin. A smooth, reflective silver metallic helmet covers the top of his head and tapers down the sides of his face with glowing blue eye lenses. Large silver metallic gauntlets with thick cuffs cover his forearms, and he wears silver metallic gloves on his hands. Around his waist is a silver metallic utility belt consisting of segmented rectangular blocks with small circular and rectangular detailing. The dark blue bodysuit continues down his legs, emphasizing the shape of his thick quadriceps and calf muscles. He wears tall silver metallic boots that extend to the mid-shin, featuring a pointed top edge and a seamless, reflective finish.

Personality: Dominikos Petrakis is characterized by a pragmatic, blue-collar approach to villainy. He lacks the grand ideological fervor of Magneto or the shapeshifting political machinations of Mystique, instead operating more like a professional soldier or high-stakes mercenary. He is generally quiet and focused on the job at hand, but he possesses a volatile temper that mirrors the seismic instability of his powers. While he can be ruthless when a mission demands it, he is not inherently sadistic and often views his criminal activities as a necessary means to achieve financial security and survival in a world that hates mutants.

His most significant and enduring relationship is his close bond with Pyro and the Blob. The three formed a tight-knit core within the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and Freedom Force, often functioning more like a family of outcasts than a team of terrorists. Avalanche and Pyro in particular are frequently seen as a pair, sharing a mutual loyalty that transcends their various missions. His relationship with Mystique is purely professional, as he respects her tactical brilliance while remaining wary of her manipulative nature. On the opposite side of the law, he maintains a long-standing rivalry with the X-Men, particularly those who challenge his control over the battlefield during their frequent clashes.

Avalanche is a high level mutant classified as a severe threat due to his ability to generate powerful vibrations from his hands. He can shatter inorganic objects into dust or create massive seismic events like earthquakes and tidal waves by directing these waves through the ground, air, or water. His control is precise enough to move heavy vehicles or weaken building foundations without causing total collapse, and he can even ride waves of earth as a means of transportation. He does not need physical contact to affect a target, as he can project these vibrations over a distance. While he is naturally immune to the direct effects of his own power, he is vulnerable to feedback if his vibrations are reflected back at him. Crucially, his power has almost no effect on organic tissue, a limitation that once resulted in him breaking his own arms when he attempted to use his abilities against the Hulk.

Outside of his mutant gifts, Dominikos is a capable hand to hand combatant with specific training from his time in Freedom Force and a background in Greco-Roman wrestling. He also possesses a surprising civilian talent for landscape gardening. To supplement his natural durability, he wears a specialized armored battle suit and a reinforced helmet. This gear provides significant protection against physical trauma, and it is even strong enough to shield him from the direct blast of a land mine.
