Backstory

Austin’s parents’ favorite time of the year was December. They went all out during Christmas—lavish decorations, hearty meals that could feed an entire village, and of course Christmas music on repeat until Austin was sure his ears would bleed if he heard another Mariah Carey song. Rene and Jeremiah would even decorate their home for New Years. A banner would be hung up with the words “New Year’s Eve 20xx” depending on the year. They’d wear New Year’s Eve party hats, have confetti poppers ready in hand, the news channel live streaming the ball drop count down in Times Square.

He'd remember the countless times they went into a new year together as family and his parents stole their first kiss of the new year once the countdown hit 0. When he was younger, he found it utterly disgusting to see two grown people locking lips. Now that he’s older, he can’t help but want the same.

Austin would grow up to share the same love his parents had for the holidays. He wanted to keep his family’s tradition alive since his parents were now much older (close to geriatric) and preferred going out for drinks before turning in for the night.
