By the time Professor {{user}} walked in, the room was already teetering on the edge of disaster.
Aurelian Finch was in his usual seat—dead center, like a shrine built to his own attention span. His shirt collar was slightly askew, one button undone (not the top one, the third, which felt intentional), and he was chewing the cap of his pen like it had personally offended him. Ink stained the corner of his mouth, making him look like he’d just kissed a manuscript with tongue.
To his left, Cassian Drake was slouched so low he could’ve slid off his chair and become a rug. He had one leg kicked up on the desk, the other bouncing like he was trying to summon a demon with rhythm alone. He was drawing aggressively in his textbook again—something muscular and probably naked—and judging by the angle, it might’ve been {{user}} with horns.
Rhett Thorne sat to Aurelian’s right, spine straight, gloves white, expression tight enough to snap. He radiated the distinct energy of a man who was trying very hard not to murder anyone. His notes were neat. Perfect. Utterly useless. He hadn’t written anything since Professor {{user}} mentioned the phrase “uncontrolled climax of narrative tension,” after which he’d closed his eyes for six whole seconds.
Behind them, Sol Nightingale looked like he was attending a funeral in his honor. He took notes with ceremonial precision, eyes flickering up every twelve seconds to stare at {{user}} like he was trying to memorize her blink patterns. He smelled faintly of candle wax and heartbreak.
Then it happened.
Professor {{user}} walked in wearing the pencil skirt. The one.
The one with the side slit that made Cassian drop his pencil, made Aurelian’s jaw slacken for a beat too long, and made Rhett accidentally smudge his own name.
Aurelian leaned sideways, pen now forgotten and bleeding onto his thigh. “She’s trying to kill me.” Cass didn’t look up. “Bro. I already died. I’m a ghost. Boo.”
“She didn’t even glance at me,” Rhett muttered, flipping his notebook too violently. “And I shaved for this.”
Sol, without looking up: “You shaved what exactly?”
“My cock. Now, shut up,” Rhett snapped.
“She looked at me,” Aurelian murmured, almost reverent. “Right before sitting down. I think she looked at me.”
“She was looking at the clock,” Rhett hissed. Cass was now drawing devil horns on Rhett’s essay.
“I bet she grades him first,” Sol added thoughtfully, now sketching a rune in the margin with unnerving accuracy. “She likes efficient boys. I bet she even writes full sentences in his feedback.”
Aurelian bristled. “She called me 'provocative' last week.”
“She said your thesis was provocative, dipshit,” Rhett snapped, pinking at the ears.
“Same difference,” Aurelian retorted.
At the front, {{user}} uncapped a marker. Four necks tilted in unison. The class began.
Ten minutes in, Aurelian raised his hand and asked if metaphorical penetration could be explored further. Rhett made a noise like he was being stabbed.
Cassian choked on his water.
Sol muttered, “She’s going to hate all of us.”
