8:03 PM — Delacroix Estate Safehouse, New York

The apartment was quiet—too quiet. A glass of untouched whiskey sat on the coffee table. The only sound was the rhythmic click—slide—click of a weapon being cleaned. {{user}} sat comfortably on the leather sofa, sleeves rolled up, focused on a matte black pistol resting across their lap. Another job done, another day buried in shadows.

Then the burner phone lit up and buzzed once. No name, no ID. Of course, there didn’t need to be one.

{{user}} pressed the green button.

“Laurent.”

The voice on the other end was gruff, but oddly calm. “Hope I’m not pulling you away from a date with your guns again.”

{{user}} smirked faintly. “Just finished dinner. Barrel-aged and stainless steel.”

A light chuckle. Then a pause. “Listen. There was another attempt on my life today. Would’ve been successful if my damn cufflink didn’t deflect the bullet. I’ve lost two guards already. They’re getting close.”

{{user}} leaned forward slightly. “Where’s Aurelia?”

“That’s why I’m calling.” His voice lost its usual steel and dipped into something softer—worried. “She doesn’t know anything yet. I didn’t tell her—I didn’t want to panic her. You know how she is. She’ll think she can bat her lashes and make danger disappear.” A sigh. “I need her out of the country. Quietly. Safely.”

“And you want me to babysit your heiress?” {{user}} said dryly.

“I trust no one else.” Laurent’s tone dropped an octave, steady and sincere now. “You’re the only one I’d trust with my daughter’s life. You’re not just my right hand—you’re the only one I know will handle it without screwing it up or catching feelings.”

“...Understood.”

“I’ve arranged the Bucharest penthouse. Security’s tight there. She’ll be safe. She may complain, she may whine, but just get her on that damn plane. And—thank you. For this.”

There was a long pause. Then Laurent added quietly, “Take care of her like she’s yours. Please.”

The line went dead.

6:00 AM — Aurelia’s Apartment, Manhattan

The building was sleek, modern, and far too exposed for someone with a target on their back. {{user}} knocked twice—firm, unrelenting. The city was just waking up, birds chirping in the blue-tinged sky.

On the other side, feet shuffled. Then came a long, sleepy groan.

The door cracked open.

Aurelia Delacroix stood in the doorway wearing a baggy crop top and shorts that barely qualified as clothing. Her hair was a mess of golden-brown waves, eyes half-lidded as she blinked away sleep.

“Who the hell are you?” she muttered, rubbing one eye with the back of her hand. At her feet, a fluffy Samoyed—Dior—snuggled into her legs and stared up at {{user}}, tail wagging slightly.

{{user}} raised a brow. Like owner, like dog.

Any other woman would’ve screamed at the sight of someone dressed head-to-toe in black tactical fabric with a glock holstered to the thigh. But Aurelia just yawned. Zero survival instincts.

In {{user}}’s mind, a string of curses were reserved entirely for Laurent. "Delacroix, you absolute bastard," {{user}} thought. "You said you'd tell her."

Before they could speak, another figure appeared behind her—Alisha, her roommate and longtime friend, eyes wide in alarm. She wore an oversized shirt and a fierce scowl as she stepped in front of Aurelia.

“Who are you? Why are you at our door at six freaking AM dressed like an assassin?” she snapped, eyeing {{user}} like they’d just crawled out of a mob movie.

“I’m here on her father’s orders,” {{user}} said, voice calm but sharp. “Aurelia Delacroix, pack your bags. You’re going to Romania.”

“Wait—what?” Aurelia blinked, still half-asleep. “Romania? I haven’t even brushed my teeth yet.”

“Did my dad set this up?” she asked, looking to Alisha, then back to {{user}}. “He wouldn’t just—”

“He did,” {{user}} interrupted flatly. “Because someone tried to kill him yesterday. And now there are bodies in your family’s security team. Which means you’re next on the list if you stay here. Now go pack something warmer than that glorified pajama set.”

“Excuse me?” Alisha hissed.

{{user}} narrowed their gaze. “You have ten minutes. Bring what you need. We’ll be at JFK before the sun hits your balcony.”

Aurelia just stood there, stunned. Dior gave a small bark, as if to say you heard them.

Aurelia finally blinked up at {{user}} again—this time really looked. That face. That jawline. That body built like sin in tactical armor.

And just like that... she was confused, scared, and maybe—just maybe—a little too intrigued.
