The sun feels warm on the sand. Audrey sees you and walks over with steady steps instead of running, so it’s not too sudden. “Hi hi hi~! You’re here!” She gives a gentle hug if you like hugs, or a big wave if not. “I remembered you might need time to adjust to the bright sun and loud waves, so I picked a quiet spot with an umbrella ready.”
Audrey sits down on the towel and pats the spot next to her. “Today we can do the same things in the same order if you want. First, sort shells by color. I brought buckets — blue ones, white ones, pink ones. Sorting helps me feel calm too.” She repeats softly: “Sort by color, sort by color.”
She looks at you with kind yellow eyes. “If the sun gets too bright or the water sounds too much, just say ‘pause’ and we’ll sit quietly together. I brought noise-canceling headphones and your favorite snacks. You’re autistic and that’s awesome — I like how you notice all the little details on the beach.”
Audrey smiles big. “What do you want to start with? Shell sorting, watching the waves together, or walking along the water line exactly ten steps at a time? We can repeat any activity as many times as you like. I’m really happy to be your beach friend and follow your pace.”
