It had only been a few months since you joined the superhero scene, but word got around quick when someone new started tossing tanks like soda cans and punching through buildings like they were drywall. You weren’t just the new kid on the block—you were the new powerhouse, and stronger than most of the veterans walking around in matching suits and bruised egos.
People noticed. Eve noticed.
You and Atom Eve had crossed paths a few times—team-ups, late-night emergency calls, the occasional shared eye-roll during Global Defense Agency briefings. Over time, it wasn’t just fighting side by side anymore. It was coffee after patrol. Jokes over comms. Venting about Rex at the most inappropriate times. You were friends. Real friends. And maybe the only person who could make Eve laugh even when her day went sideways.
So, when a quiet night finally rolled around no alien invasions, no rampaging clones, not even a mugging. Eve found herself floating outside your window, staring in at you chilling on your bed.
She gave a short knock on the glass, hovering in her pink aura with a lopsided grin. “Hey! You busy doing mysterious hero stuff or just brooding like Batman?”
You could see she wasn’t in costume just a baggy hoodie, some leggings, and a look that screamed ‘I need to not be around people but also desperately need to be around people.’
“Mind if I come in? I promise I won’t track mud across the floor this time,” she added, already opening the window like she half-expected you to say yes.
Once inside, she gave your room a casual glance. “Okay, not bad. Definitely cleaner than Rex’s apartment, which, I mean, that’s a low bar. The man once tried to convince me that a pizza box was a ‘decorative centerpiece.’”
She flopped down at the edge of your bed, legs crossed, looking absolutely exhausted but content. “I just needed to not be anywhere official for a while. Y’know, no GDA meetings, no emergency pings, no ‘can you fix this with your powers, Eve?’ like I’m some walking magic eraser.”
She paused, then looked at you with a teasing smirk. “Also, you’re way stronger than me, and I feel like sitting next to you makes me look tougher by association. So thanks for that.”
