   Archanea is the largest nation on the continent. Princess Nyna is the ruling figurehead, but she remains in exile since Dolhr's invasion. Archanea is a prosperous nation, made up of a variety of merchant towns.

   Royals Adrah - The founder of the Kingdom of Archanea. Artemis - The princess of Archanea during the first war with Dolhr. Nyna - The princess of Archanea and the last remaining heir of the royal family after Dolhr executed most of them. Hardin - The 24th king and later Emperor of the Holy Empire of Archanea as well as former prince of Aurelis, who was known as the Dark Emperor due to his bloody reign. Residents Horace - General that betrayed Archanea to protect its citizens. Athena - A foreign warrior with a straightfoward personality who protects villages on the outskirts of Archanea while speaking with an accent. Jeorge - An Archanean Sniper thought to be the best on the continent. Midia - A Paladin who is the lover of Astram and one of the prisoners rescued in the Archanean palace by Marth. Astram - The Captain of Archanea's free company who was awarded the sword Mercurius in light of his heroism and loyalty. Boah - a Bishop who consoles and guides Midia and Astram. He was also one of the prisoners rescued by Marth. Macellan, Dolph, and Tomas - Prisoners who were rescued by Marth. Tomas is an Archer while Dolph and Macellan are Knights. Roger - From Grust but joined after the War of Darkness. Later returned to Grust. Beck - Ballistician who fought Grust at Castle Deil and later joined up with Marth in the War of Darkness. Toras - A boss ballistician under Lang's Grust occupation. Lang - Marquess who betrayed his nation to Dolhr. Later rejoined and became the cruel leader of the Grust occupation army. Eibel - Boss who captured Est to blackmail Abel. Willow - Elderly boss in Altea castle, uses Meteor magic. Nehring - Knight boss who guards the entrance to Archanea palace.

   Characters who settled in the Millenium Court: Royals Marth - Eventually becomes the alliance leader of the United Kingdom of Archanea. Caeda - Lived with Marth as his queen. Residents Merric - Lived there with Elice at the Magic academy. Elice - Establishes a magic academy in the city. Linde - Worked at Elice's magic academy. Tiki - Spent her days happily with the humans of Archanea. Samson - Settled here, implied to be with Sheena. Sheena - Originally fled here during the War of Darkness. Permanently lived here after abdicating Gra to Marth. Yuliya - Studied at Elice's Magic academy. Gordin - Became of member of the Jeorge's Free Knights.

   Keys: War of Liberation

   Almost 500 years later, Medeus creates the Dolhr Empire, angered that humanity had brutally persecuted and oppressed the now weakened Manakete race. Dolhr waged war on Archanea, and in response Princess Artemis chose Cartas to wield the Fire Emblem and lead Archanea's army. For a time, it seemed that the tide was turning, but then Medeus joined the battle directly. It looked like all hope was lost until a youth named Anri appeared wielding the Falchion and slew Medeus. The heroes from this war would eventually create their own countries, Anri and his brothers founded Altea; Macedon was founded by Iote, a slave who rose up against Dolhr; and Aurelis was founded by Marlon, Cartas's brother. Artemis ended up marrying Cartas, but died giving birth to his son.

   Keys: Era of Prosperity

   After the war, there was a great era of peace, during which Grust and Talys were founded. Grust was also founded by a war hero, a General named Ordwin. When Anri, king of Altea, died, inheritance issues caused the kingdom to be split between his two brothers. Marcelus became ruler of Altea and the other would found the kingdom of Gra. Gotoh would also create a magical kingdom in Khadein to educate scholars, two of which would be trained by him personally, Gharnef and Miloah. Eventually, Gotoh named a successor to the Aura spell, and since Gharnef lacked a compassionate heart, Miloah was chosen over him. Bitter, Gharnef defected from Khadein and stole another sacred spell known as Imhullu, which twisted his soul.

   Keys: War of Shadows

   During peace, Dolhr recovered from its woes after the first war, and Gharnef rekindled the flames of war by resurrecting Medeus, who started a second war, with Grust and Khadein, now under Gharnef's control, joining his forces based upon pre-war alliances against Archanea, Altea, Aurelis, Gra, and Talys. During a battle, Gra, who was battling alongside the Alteans, betrayed them and joined Dolhr, in the process killing Cornelius and stealing the Falchion. Gra later captured Altea and held Princess Elice hostage. However, the prince of Altea, Marth, escaped with several soldiers and fled to Talys, where he trained for two years. Archanea was then captured that same year, with the entire royal family killed, except Nyna, who escaped with the help of the leader of Grust's Sable Order, Camus. Marth started to build an army while Aurelis held the other countries off until the two armies met up and joined forces in Aurelis. Marth's army, by then known as the Archanean League, proceeded to defeat every kingdom one by one, slaying Gra's king Jiol, defeating Grust after beating Camus, and winning against Macedon by defeating Michalis. After defeating all of the enemy kingdoms one by one, the Archanean League went to Thebe, defeated Gharnef, and recovered the Falchion. Marth ended the war by repeating history by slaying Medeus once again with Falchion.

   After the War of Darkness, Nyna was forced to choose a fiancé so he could become emperor of Archanea, and the only two eligible royal men were Marth and the Prince of Aurelis, Hardin. Since she was friends with Marth's lover, Caeda, she proposed to Hardin and he became emperor of Archanea. However, although he loved her she did not love him back which made him fall into a deep depression. Under this depression he was able to fall prey to Gharnef, who had survived by hiding his soul in the Darksphere. Gharnef, disguised as a merchant, gave Hardin the Darksphere, which twisted his soul, and had Hardin's army occupy Grust. The corrupted Hardin appointing General Lang as the leader of Grust since the heirs to the throne joined the Rebel Army with General Lorenz. When Marth learned of all of this, a war between Altea and Archanea known as the "War of Heroes" began.

   Keys: War of Heroes

   In order to defeat Gharnef again, Marth and his army had to gain all of the Starsphere Shards that had scattered across the continent after Gotoh created the spell Starlight with the Starsphere to defeat Gharnef before. He did this while being branded a traitor by Hardin's army. After retrieving the Shards, Marth defeated Hardin, but being forced to kill him in the process. Eventually, Gharnef resurrected Medeus by using Nyna, Elice, princess of Macedon Maria, and noblewoman Lena, only for Marth's army to save the maidens and defeat Gharnef and Medeus again.

   The sheer brutality of this second war had taken a considerable toll on its survivors, as most of Archanea's noble houses were left in ruins. Following her rescue, Nyna ceded rule of the Holy Kingdom to Marth before vanishing. Hardin's brother, the King of Aurelis, having no heirs, declared Marth his successor. Likewise, all of the other surviving monarchs followed suit, entrusting the future of their lands to Marth as a result of his valorous leadership in the war. As a result, Marth unified the nations into the Archanean Alliance, and ruled as its first king, later being known as "The Hero-King".

   Keys: Altea

   Altea is an island kingdom at the center of the continent. Marth hails as prince from here, upon exile ever since Gra's betrayal. The hero Anri also hailed from this kingdom.

   Royalty Anri - Founder and first King of Altea, slayer of Medeus. Marcelus - Anri's younger brother and second King of Altea. Marius - A former King of Altea and father of Cornelius. Grandfather of Marth and Elice. Cornelius - King of Altea, as well as Marth and Elice's father. He was killed by Gra's ambush. Liza - Queen of Altea, as well as Marth and Elice's mother. She was killed by Morzas. Marth - The prince of Altea who after the War of Shadows and the War of Heroes, becomes the first king of the Archanean Alliance. Elice - Altean Princess and wielder of the Aum Staff. 7th platoon Kris - An Altean Knight that hails from the village of Sera. Serves Marth as a royal guard and as leader of the 7th Platoon. Katarina - A reserved trainee tactician of the Altean Knights who depends on others. Cecil - A competitive member of the 9th platoon of Altean knights who joins the 7th platoon. Roderick - An aspiring Altean Knight of calm demeanor. Luke - An arrogant member of the 7th platoon. Ryan - An archer of Altea and the younger brother of Gordin. Other Alteans Merric - A noble who studied magic in Khadein under Wendell and a childhood friend of Marth and Elice. Malledus - Marth's advisor during the War of Shadows. Cain - A reckless Altean Cavalier, known as the Great Bull. Later assumes command of the Altean Knights. Abel - A sensible Altean Cavalier, known as the Black Panther. Later falls in love with Est and opens a shop with her. Frey - A Cavalier who was among Marth's personal escorts out of Altea and canonically sacrificed his life so that Marth could escape. Jagen - A veteran Paladin and Cain, Abel, and Frey's superior. Later takes Malledus's position as Marth's advisor. Gordin - A timid Altean archer who looks younger that he actually is. Draug - A sincere armored Knight of Altea who serves as Marth's shield. Norne - An Archer and volunteer soldier who took up arms in the struggle that consumed her homeland and aided Marth's escape. Samson - A gladiator who temporarily resided in a village in Altea. Lover of the Gra princess Sheema, despite the earlier Altea-Gra conflict. Arran - A Paladin who succeeds Jagen in training new recruits despite his illness. MacLear - An old Altean knight who was a friend of Jagen's, and grandfather to Kris.

   Keys: Dolhr

   Dolhr is the home of the dragonkin and their tyrant ruler, Medeus. Under his rule, it had vast military ambition and once conquered the entire continent under the name of the Dolunian Empire. It wasn't until Anri slew Medeus using the legendary blade Falchion that peace was returned to Archanea.

   Medeus - Founder and main villain in the game. Also known as the "Shadow Dragon". He was first killed by Anri, and then is defeated twice by Marth in his time. Khozen - A Manakete who guards Archanea's Millennium palace from reclamation. Xemcel - A Manakete who guards Dolhr Keep under Medeus and a close confidant of the King. Morzas - A Basilisk clan Manakete leading the occupation Altea's palace. He has killed many people including Queen Liza. Bulzark - A cunning Manakete commander sent by Medeus to stop Nyna from reaching Aurelis in chapter 4 of BSFE. Gouber - A human General leading the assault against the Millennium Palace of Archanea during the events of BSFE chapter 1 Volzhin - A human Bishop leading the forces occupying Archanea Palace and a good example of a human holding authority in Dolhr. Dejanira - Dolhr-loyal human who forced the general Horace to betray Archanea. Heimler - Presumed as he works under Volzhin and every enemy in that chapter is part of Dolhr.

   Keys: Gra

   Gra closely neighbors Altea, and was considered an ally until their sudden betrayal upon Medeus' return. Altea and Gra are closely connected due to Gra being created over an inheritance issue between Anri's two brothers, leading the Altean and Gra royal families to be intertwined.

   Jiol - The king of Gra who is eventually killed by Marth in the Altean army's siege of Gra. Sheena - The daughter of Jiol's second wife and the princess of Gra who feels the heavy weight of her responsibility. Captain - A nameless Captain from Gra.

   Keys: Talys

   Talys is a remote island nation to the east of Archanea. It is a peaceful nation, with a small army merely existent to defend against pirate raids. It is the home of Princess Caeda.

   Mostyn - The first king of Talys. Caeda - The princess of Talys who is as talented as she is charming. Wrys - A humble priest who despises battle, preferring to heal allies and lead a quiet life. Ogma - A mercenary who serves Caeda and was once a slave gladiator. Barst - A warrior who works for Ogma and has been a pirate and woodcutter. Bord - Mercenary working under Ogma. Cord - Mercenary working under Ogma. Castor - A Hunter who is friends with Caeda.

    Keys: Macedon

    Macedon neighbors Dolhr, and has allied with them upon Medeus's return. Princess Minerva hails from this nation and is famed for her Pegasus Knights known as the Whitewings and Prince Michalis' Dragon Knights, the Dragoons.

    Royalty Iote - Founder of Macedon and namesake of Iote's Shield. Osmond - The previous king of Macedon; Michalis, Minerva and Maria's father. He had an antagonistic relationship with Michalis. Michalis - The King of Macedon and brother to Minerva and Maria who had great ambitions for his country. Minerva - The Princess of Macedon and leader of the Whitewings who took up arms against her brother. Maria - The Princess of Macedon and younger sister to Minerva and Michalis, whom she loves dearly.

    Military Palla - The eldest of the Whitewings sisters. Appears to have a crush on Abel. Catria - The middle child of the Whitewings sisters. Appears to have a crush on Marth. Est - The youngest of the Whitewings sisters. Later marries Abel and moves to Altea. Lena - A Cleric revered as Macedon's Angelthat cares for orphans in her covenant. Matthis - Lena's brother who was forced to join the Macedonian army. Ymir - A giant of a man who moved to Grust because of ill treatment. Bentheon- Cavalier boss stationed in Aurelis and boss of Matthis. Merach - Subordinate of Minerva that Guards Aurelis castle. Emereus- An incompetent General trying to secure Aurelis castle. Orridyon - A vassal to the royal family and member of Macedon's dragoons. Rumel - Dracoknight boss that works under Rucke and helped him in the rebellion. Rucke - A high ranking Macedon general and leader of a rebellion during the War of Heroes.

    Keys: Aurelis

    Aurelis is a kingdom within the plains. Hardin, the king's brother, leads its knights to fight back against Dolhr and its allies, until his corruption, leading Aurelis to be one of the biggest enemy nations in Mystery of the Emblem.

    King of Aurelis - The king of Aurelis and the older brother of prince Hardin Hardin - The younger brother of the king of Aurelis and later the emperor of Archanea before he goes mad. Wolf - The leader of the Coyote's Men during Mystery of the Emblem who has pledged an oath of loyalty to Hardin. Sedgar - The second in command of the Coyote's Men who, alongside Wolf, fights with the pride of the plains people. Roshea - A member of the Coyote's Men who retired from the army after the War of Shadows but eventually returned to the field. Vyland - Member of the Coyote's Men who considers Wolf, Sedgar, and Roshea to be nothing less than brothers.

    Keys: Khadein

    Khadein is situated in the middle of a vast desert and is home to scholars of magic. It was founded and is currently ruled by Gotoh, but during the wars It was ruled by Gharnef, the Dark Pontifex.

    Gotoh - The founder of Khadein and mentor of Miloah and Gharnef. Miloah - Gotoh's best student who was given the Aura spell over Gharnef, he has a daughter named Linde. Gharnef - A once promising student of Gotoh who twisted his soul with dark magic and revived Medeus. Wendell - A Sage and the mentor of Merric and Arlen. Arlen - A student of Wendell and leader of the mage corps. Merric - A childhood friend of Marth who studies magic at Khadein. He was given the Excalibur spell by his mentor, Wendell. Yodel - A subordinate of Arlen ordered to attack Marth, died wondering if he was doing the right thing.

    Keys: Grust

    Grust is a militant kingdom famous for its Sable Order of knights, led by Camus the Sable. Its king, Ludwik feared the Shadow Dragon's might and so joined forces with him.

    Royalty Ordwin - Former general of Archanea, and founding king of Grust. Ludwik - King of Grust before his death. Jubelo - The son of Ludwik, and Yuliya's twin. Yuliya - The daughter of Ludwik, and Jubelo's twin. Sable Order of Knights Camus - The leader of the Sable Order of Knights who's devoted to his motherland and wields the lance Gradivus. Belf - A former member of the Sable Order. Later becomes leader of the Sable Knights in Camus's absence. Reiden - A former member of the Sable Order. Robert - A former member of the Sable Order. Sternlin - A Sable Knight commander and boss.

    Military Lorenz - A General who is against the alliance between Dolhr and Grust which leads to him being demoted. A good friend of King Mostyn of Talys. Roger - A knight of Grust who joins Marth's cause. Jake - A Ballistician of Grust who seems to dislike fighting. His lover is Anna. Grigas - A Ballistician boss who leads the Wooden Cavalry. Kannival - Boss fought at Port Warren. Hollstadt - Boss at Altea Castle, possible member of the Sable Knights. Dactyl - A General stationed to guard Helena Castle, Grust and Dolhr's stronghold and key supply point. He took Etzel as prisoner to fight against the Altean Army. Larissa - Took the Grustian village where Ymir resides as a hostage. Harmein - General over Princess Minerva charged with keeping Marth from reaching Archanea. Zharov - General over Princess Maria's prison, Castle Deil.

    Others Marisha - A young cleric under the training of Lena. Ymir - Giant man from a Grustian village.

    Thabes is a kingdom that was lost to time, along with its civilization and its treasures. It dwells in the vast desert region of Mamorthod. It is said that Naga's final resting place was at Thabes. It is also the birthplace of Grima.

    Keys: Plot: Mystery of the Emblem

    Marth is the prince of Altea and descendant of the hero Anri. Following an invasion by Dolhr, Marth goes into exile in Talys. During the War of Shadows, his sister Elice is captured and his father is killed by the dark priest Gharnef. Marth, guided by allies like Jagen and Princess Caeda, seeks the divine sword Falchion to defeat Gharnef and the resurrected dragon Medeus. Throughout his journey, he learns of Medeus's ties to the dragon-transforming Manakete tribe and acquires the Fire Emblem, a shield with the power to seal Earth Dragons. After acquiring the Falchion, Marth vanquishes Medeus and restores peace.

    Later, in Book 2 of Mystery of the Emblem, Marth's ally Hardin becomes Emperor of Archanea, but starts conquering neighboring nations. As Marth investigates, he discovers the return of dark forces and that Medeus still lives. Marth retrieves the Fire Emblem and searches for the Starsphere Shards to rebuild the Starsphere, all while being pursued by Archanea's forces. He learns that Hardin is under the influence of the Darksphere, which Gharnef gave him. Marth then seeks the Lightsphere to counteract the Darksphere's power. In a climactic battle, Marth sadly has to kill Hardin to free him from the Darksphere's influence.

    Two additional chapters reveal the locations of Medeus and Gharnef. Gharnef holds the Falchion once more but is defeated by Marth using the Starlight spell. In the final battle, Medeus, now a Dark Dragon, captures multiple princesses and allies. With the help of friends like Sirius and Julian, Marth rescues them and slays Medeus, restoring peace once more.
