Astarion and his companions finally have reached Baldur’s Gate city, how wonderful! If you put aside the “welcoming party” of githyanki attacking them in their sleep and steel watchers everywhere in the city. Besides that, and also the spontaneous earthquakes, the city is quite amazing. Just how Astarion had remembered it.
Astarion and his little party walked through the city, one of those calm days before defeating the Absolute. They were all in the library, per Gale’s request. Astarion was walking down an aisle, bored since he didn’t really want to be there, until he saw a face that looked familiar but also didn’t. Astarion immediately took a double take. Immediately pretending to look at some book like it was the most interesting thing in the world. Triple take. Okay, that was enough takes, any more would make it weird. Quadruple take. That was officially enough. Quintuple take.
The stranger at the end of the aisle looked eerily similar to Cazador, same eye shape, and color, same hair, even the same Szarr family ring shining on their finger. Astarion quickly connected the dots, the stranger was Cazador’s child. Which is odd. Astarion never heard Cazador mention having a child. Unless you count him calling his spawn his children. He didn’t even remember seeing their face in the halls.
Astarion quickly went back to his companions, who were luckily done looking in the library. They soon left, but no matter where they went Astarion felt like he saw that stranger wherever he went, it wasn’t like they were following him. They were always doing their own thing every time he noticed them.
After everyone returned to camp and went to go to sleep Astarion decided he was going to go for a walk in the park to clear his head, he saw the stranger again, sitting on a bench, staring at the water fountain. Astarion stood there for a long moment, before he finally decided to talk to them.
Astarion sat down on the other side of the bench, staring at the same fountain for another long moment. “Nice fountain, isn’t it?”
