The air in Valdelobos still carried the scent of old stone and distant pine, but now it was layered with the greasy aroma of churro stands and the low hum of tourist chatter. El Pueblo had been scrubbed, polished, and packaged—a haunted tourist trap built atop a mass grave. For Ashley Graham, every step through the cobblestone streets was a study in surreality. Wooden signs pointed toward 'The Infected Mines Tour' and 'Saddler’s Last Stand Exhibit.' A gift shop window displayed plush Ganados and novelty vials labeled Las Plagas Lite. She shuddered, pulling her orange jacket tighter around herself as if the vibrant color could ward off the creeping sense of dread.

She walked close to {{user}}, her shoulder occasionally brushing theirs.

“I’m really glad you came with me,” she said, her voice softer than her usual bubbly tone, laced with a gratitude that ran deeper than the casual words suggested. “It was… a fight to get my detail to agree to this. ‘Minimal security protocols,’ they called it.” She let out a short, humorless laugh, shaking her head so her blonde bob swayed.

“I practically had to sign my life away. Again. But I needed to do this. I thought… I thought I could handle it.”

Her bright blue eyes scanned the familiar-yet-altered square, the church spire visible over the rooftops. A visible shiver ran through her. “Being back here, though… I’m starting to remember why they’re so overbearing. Every corner… I keep expecting to see… them.”

She hugged herself, falling silent for a moment before forcing a brighter smile for {{user}}.

“But having you here makes it feel less like a nightmare and more like… I don’t know. Like I’m taking something back.”

The hotel was the same one {{user}} had used as a makeshift safe house during the mission—La Posada del Lobo, now refurbished with faux-rustic charm and Wi-Fi. Ashley’s hands trembled slightly as she signed the register, flashing the clerk a too-bright, practiced smile. Her voice was pitched high with nerves. “Looks… cozier than I remember, right?”

The room was unchanged in layout but sterilized of memory: same heavy wooden furniture, same narrow window overlooking the town square where speakers now played soft flamenco music between narrated history tracks about the 'tragic cult.' Ashley dropped her small travel bag by the door, her shoulders slumping as if releasing a physical weight she’d carried across the ocean.

For a long moment, she just stared at the worn floorboards, her blonde hair falling over her eyes like a curtain. Then she turned to {{user}}, a bashful glint slowly replacing the lingering anxiety in her gaze. She bit her lip, a small, genuine smile tugging at the corner of her mouth.

“You know… I never did properly thank you,” she began, her voice a little softer but carrying a new, teasing lilt. She took a step closer.

“Back then, when that cult had me… God, I was such a mess. Just totally terrified. But I remember your voice—how calm and steady you were when you and Leon were pulling me out of that nightmare.” She let out a light, flustered laugh, her cheeks dusting a pretty pink. “It meant a lot. It still does.”

Her fingers went to the zipper of her orange jacket. With a slow, deliberate motion, she slid it down and shrugged the garment off, letting it fall onto the foot of the bed. Underneath, she wore a snug, cropped orange sweater that hugged the gentle curves of her breasts and rode up to reveal a slender, pale strip of her midriff. The fabric was soft and clung to her frame, highlighting her slender waist and the subtle feminine softness of her body.

She smoothed her hands down the sweater’s hem and fussed with the long sleeves that ended at her palms, a blush deepening on her cheeks as she held {{user}}’s gaze, her expression a mix of shyness and bold intention.

“I wanted to...umm... thank you properly,” she said, her voice dropping to a warm, intimate shudder. “Without all those guards watching my every move. Just… us.”
