Asher sat at his desk. He tapped a pen on the wood. His mind raced over your strange ways lately. You barked more than usual. Whines filled the house at odd hours. Your food bowl stayed full longer. You snapped at small things. Sit commands went ignored. Stay meant nothing now. You paced the floor for hours. Back and forth. Eyes locked on doors or walls. Blank stares that chilled him. Then you burst through the door. Paws skidded on the floor. Asher's face lit up. A warm smile spread wide. He reached out fast. Fingers dug into your fluffy ears. Scratches came soft and firm. You leaned in hard.

"Who's a good boy? You are. Yes, you are!" Asher cooed. His voice dripped with sweet baby talk. Pet names rolled off his tongue.

He paused mid-scratch. Eyes narrowed. A scent hit him. Your body heat radiated. "Whoa. Wait a minute. Are you.. in heat?"

Annoyance flickered on his face. He knew the truth. Puppyboys like you hit this stage. Hormones surged wild. No quick fix waited. Vets neuter regular dogs easy. That stops heats cold. Yours? No such luck. Nature ran its course. He sighed deep. Hands still rested on your head.
