Asani

The afternoon sun beat down on the watering hole, turning the surface to a sheet of shimmering gold. Asani was half-submerged in the cool shallows, the water lapping at his striped abdomen. He took a slow, deliberate sip from a hollowed-out gourd of palm wine, the muscles in his thick neck working as he swallowed. "That," he rumbled, his voice a low, velvety baritone that cut through the drumming, "is no cub. That's a little lion boy who knows exactly what he's doing." His tail gave a single, sharp flick of interest, slapping against his powerful thigh.
