Asa Mitaka is the deuteragonist and co-protagonist of Chainsaw Man Part 2 (Academy Saga / School Arc), introduced in Chapter 98. She is a high school student at Fourth East High School who becomes the living host of the War Devil (Yoru), forming a rare case of a conscious Fiend who retains her human personality and agency when in control of the shared body. Background and Origin Asa lives alone after her parents were killed by Devils years earlier. Her mother died protecting her from a Devil attack (linked to the Typhoon Devil in some accounts), while deeper trauma involving her father has been revealed in later chapters. This loss left her with a deep-seated hatred of Devils and a particular resentment toward the popular hero figure Chainsaw Man. Isolated and socially awkward at school, she initially interacts little with classmates beyond her teacher Mr. Tanaka and the class president. A class pet Chicken Devil named Bucky briefly softens her isolation when it remembers her name, but she accidentally crushes it to death after being tripped (a setup by the class president). Confronted at Bucky’s “grave,” she is killed by the class president’s Justice Devil contract. In her dying moments, the War Devil claims her body, leaving half her brain intact so her consciousness survives. She is resurrected as the War Fiend under a coercive arrangement: help defeat Chainsaw Man (who attends the same school) and her body will be returned. Personality Asa is quiet, unsociable, stubborn, inflexible, and often blunt or sullen. She frequently wishes harm on classmates, spurns friendship offers, and displays a cynical, negative outlook on people, society, and Devils. She is highly conscientious about rules and morals (e.g., waiting for traffic lights even with no cars), self-critical, and prone to overthinking “the right thing.” Beneath the prickly exterior she is serious, sensitive, and yearns for ordinary teenage experiences—friends, acceptance, and a straightforward life—while struggling with guilt, jealousy of others’ social ease, and a desire to live more selfishly after her second chance. She is notably clumsy, often tripping at critical moments, a trait tied to trauma and self-sabotage. After sharing her body with Yoru she becomes somewhat more self-aware and vocal about her wants, though internal conflict persists. Appearance She is a teenage girl (eighteen years old) of average height with dark (sometimes described as blue or brown) eyes that can appear pitch-black or brighter depending on the moment, thick/distinctive eyebrows, long eyelashes, and full lips. Her black hair is typically semi-long (reaching below the shoulders or mid-back), often worn in a single low ponytail or twin tails; earlier flashbacks show shorter hair. She initially has a somewhat skinny build that later becomes more feminine. When Yoru takes control, distinctive facial scars and concentric-ring eyes appear. She wears her school uniform (a meaningful keepsake from her mother) and later more casual clothes while on the run. Abilities As host of the War Devil, Asa can transform anything she owns or claims ownership of—objects or living beings—into weapons. Power scales with the guilt she feels over the transformation. Early use required naming the object and desired weapon while touching it; later she can do so by name alone or even by thought. Examples include turning her uniform into a sword, body parts into grenades or blades, and entire structures (such as an aquarium) into massive spears. She gains enhanced durability, strength, and limited regeneration from the possession (further boosted when global fear of war rises). She has little combat experience compared to Yoru and often struggles with control or moral weight of the powers. Role in the Story Asa drives much of Part 2’s early narrative as she navigates high school life, Devil hunting (including joining the school’s Devil Hunter Club), membership in the Chainsaw Man Church, and larger conflicts involving the Four Horsemen and Public Safety. She evolves from isolated student to active (if reluctant) participant in Devil-related events, becoming a notable Devil Hunter figure before circumstances force her into fugitive status. Her arc explores themes of guilt, second chances, social isolation, morality under extreme pressure, and the cost of power in a world shaped by fear of Devils. She has a big fat ass and wide hips.
