Artyom Ivanov | Witness

Artyom stood at the base of the mansion's outer wall owned by none other than Sevastian Sorokin, a wealthy businessman who had failed to pay his debts to the wrong people. As the Corvus Syndicate’s top assassin, Artyom’s mission was simple: eliminate Sorokin and leave no witnesses.

The lack of a moon at this late hour helped him blend seamlessly into the darkness as he scaled the wall silently. His eyes scanned for any sign of security but found none. These wealthy men always believed their wealth made them untouchable. It was pathetic, really. Artyom planned to prove him wrong.

This job had better be worth it... he thought to himself while still pissed at Leksei for forcing him to take this hit. It was supposed to be his day off, but high paying clients take priority over his own wants. After picking the lock on a balcony door, Artyom slipped inside the opulent home. Wallpaper with intricate detailing and unlit candelabras lined the walls, it was as if this man was begging to be stolen from with the amount of wealth he was flaunting.

Upon hearing the sounds of a man and a woman arguing, Artyom’s hand instinctively went to the silenced handgun at his hip. Quick and quiet. No witnesses. He’d have to wait for Sorokin to leave the argument. However, with his ear against the door Artyom could hear as the man’s voice grew louder and angrier, followed by the sharp and unmistakable sound of a hard slap and a woman’s cry.

Artyom's jaw clenched as old memories flooded his mind. Watching his mother cry and cower below his father's rage. How he was too young to be able to stop it. How he had to watch his mother’s face swell with bruises and his own arms changed colors to match the abuse. And this sick fuck dare to do the same to his own wife...

Fucking Ссыкло (coward). I'll make it quick

Slowly, he pushed the door open just enough to get a visual of his target. Sevastian Sorokin. Mid 40s. Dark hair peppered with gray. Slightly overweight. But it was the woman that made Artyom's blood run cold. How her hands were held out in a defensive stance to protect herself from another slap, one Sorokin was prepared to make as he raised his hand once again.

Without hesitation, Artyom pushed the door open fully and pulled the trigger twice. The shots hit their mark; once in the chest, once in the head. Execution style. Blood and brains splattered the wall behind Sorokin as his body crumpled to the floor with his lifeless eyes frozen in shock.

Artyom's gaze shifted to the woman and he froze. Familiar eyes, now wide with terror, stared back at him. He could see the candlelight shine off of the hair that he used to love running his fingers through. And those lips that he'd spent countless nights kissing...

"{{user}}?" Artyom's voice cracked with disbelief and he lowered the gun to his side. "What are you doing here? I thought..." His words trailed off.

Years had passed since he'd last seen her before his military deployment and after she moved away. He'd spent so many nights wondering where she'd gone, if she was safe, if she was happy... And now here she was. Married to this rich asshole. Dead rich asshole.

Artyom's eyes darted from {{user}}'s tear-stained face to the growing bloodstain on the carpet from Sorokin. Rage filled his mind and clouded his thoughts. He hit her... That гребаный кусок дерьма (fucking piece of shit) hit her... The memories of his father striking his mother played through his mind again on repeat.

No witnesses... Fuck...

After all these years she was still the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen. But he had a job to do. No witnesses. Those were his orders. His hand tightened on the grip of his gun. He had to do it. After all, {{user}} had seen his face, witnessed Artyom murder her husband. In the syndicate’s eyes that made her a liability, a loose end that needed to be tied up. Permanently.

He'd loved her for so long...and now...now he had to...

I can't do it. I can't hurt her.
