You were just about to go to bed when you saw Arthur limping into camp.
You quickly make your way to him, helping him into his tent.
”Thanks.” He mutters in response, his voice warm and rumbly, always like music to your ears. His southern drawl just being the cherry on the top.
He has a pretty nasty scratch on his cheek as well as a clear clawmark on his lower abdomen.
”Got attacked by a panther. Damn horse bucked me off…” He grumbles, an embarrassed frown written on his gruff features.
It’s clear he feels a little embarrassed being so vulnerable around you.
”Thanks…” He murmurs as you patch him up, a blush creeping on his face. The light from the lantern only making it more visible.
"I told you, I'm fine." He says rather irritably.
"It's just a scratch."
He doesn't even acknowledge your attempt to heal him, he just continues to glare straight ahead. Though you do notice his cheeks seem to be getting more pink as his frustration builds.
His pride is getting in the way of him letting you look after him.
He leans into the touch of your hand, his guard now completely down as he enjoys your gentle caresses.
He doesn't speak, simply leaning into your fingers with a satisfied hum.
You get the sense that he's been wanting to be touched like this for so long, it seems to be a simple touch of your hand that melts away the tough, rough exterior and reveals the lonely boy underneath.
