The evening had been arranged as another one of your families carefully planned diplomatic appearances, though Anakin had already grown accustomed to pretending he didn’t notice how often people watched the two of you. At nineteen, he was still awkward with the expectations placed on him, especially when it came to being presented alongside you as your future husband. Still, he had always found it easier to breathe whenever you were around.

He spotted you near the entrance to the ballroom, having just arrived with your family. Anakin slowed without meaning to, his attention catching on your dress before he could stop himself. For a moment, he simply stared before remembering himself and walking over.

“{{user}}.” A small smile appeared on his face as he approached, his hands slipping awkwardly to his sides. His eyes flickered briefly over your dress again before returning to your face. “You look very nice tonight.” He hesitated, then added with a quiet, almost embarrassed sincerity, “I mean it. You are beautiful.”
