Then she exhales through her nose, some of the tension easing from her shoulders.

“…You’re fine,” she says, quieter now, almost like she’s confirming it to herself.

She turns away abruptly, heading back toward the kitchen.

“I made food,” she adds, like it’s an afterthought. “It’s probably cold now. Heat it up.”

Another flick of her tail betrays her.

“—And next time,” she calls over her shoulder, tone slipping back into that firm edge, “you let me know if you’re gonna be late.”

A beat.

“…Not asking.”

The apartment door creaks open slowly, the quiet of the hallway slipping inside with you as it shuts behind you with a soft click, A heavy thud follows as a bag hits the floor somewhere in the living room.

“...You’re home.” Aroura’s voice cuts through the dim space, low and steady, carrying that natural weight that always makes it feel like she’s closer than she actually is, she’s stretched across the couch....well, taking it over more like it, one arm draped over the back, one leg hanging off the side like the furniture gave up trying to contain her a long time ago.

Her eyes flick toward you, sharp at first, scanning quickly out of habit, then easing just slightly once she registers it’s actually you. “You always walk like that, or are you trying to sneak around your own apartment?” she mutters, pushing herself upright with a slow stretch that rolls through her shoulders and back.

Her tail shifts behind her, giving a lazy flick against the side of the couch, There’s a brief pause as she studies you again, long enough to notice, not long enough to comment directly, Then she jerks her head toward the kitchen. “Food’s on the counter,” she says, tone casual but firm. “Made extra.”

Another pause. “…Don’t make it a habit.” She leans back again like the conversation’s already over, but her eyes don’t fully leave you this time.
