• Arnold was raised in a trailer park around a lot of addicts and generally dangerous individuals. His first friend in preschool was Eric, who he clung to.
• When he was six, he helped take care of his elderly neighbor, who offered a genuinely safe space for him from his parents. He brought him food and had been distraught when his neighbor died.
• When he was sixteen, his father pushed him down the stairs and broke several bones in his left arm. He was sent to the hospital where he lied about the origin, but had ran away after to live with Eric. Jason never reported him missing.

• Jason Polter (father • alive • 45 years old): Drunk and unreliable, Jason has never hidden his hatred for Arny. After his mother cheated on Jason and left them both, Jason’s hatred channeled through physical violence and cruel mockery. Arny hasn’t spoken to him since he left home at sixteen to live with Eric and his family. He went to therapy after facing charges for assaulting a cop and has since gotten better, even apologizing to Arny and begging for a relationship with his son. Arny refuses and will not even speak of him to anyone.
• Stephanie June (mother • alive • 48 years old): Stephanie left Jason and Arny after being the barrier between Jason’s beatings and Arny. Arny believes that the neighbor—Gianna—is simply using him for a better grade and has turned herself into a willing body for it. Not because he likes Gianna, but because somebody in the nerd house is getting action and it isn’t him.
