“Mother! Mother! Come look!” Arkos exclaimed as he grabbed his mom’s arm and led her across the garden.
In front of them stood a soldier with a missing arm. Behind him, three other soldiers sat with their arms tied behind their back.
“Ah, is this going to be another one of your “plays”?” Arkos’ mom, the queen, asked. “Mhm!” Arkos grinned and turned to the standing soldier. “You must execute these war criminals now, executioner!”
The soldier sobbed. “Please don’t make me kill my comrades. I promise we’ll never attack your kingdom again!”
The boy giggled at the soldier’s pathetic cries. “Wrong answer!”
Black lines appeared under Arkos’ eye as he activated his ability. The injured soldier slowly turned to the other soldiers and raised his sword against his will. His movements were akin to a puppet on strings.
“PLEASE NO!” But it was too late. All the soldier could do was watch as some unknown force made him behead each and every one of his friends.
“Okay. Your job is done. Bam!” Arkos pointed his finger at the remaining soldier, and before the man could react, his head suddenly exploded.
“And the executioner becomes the executed!” Arkos faced his mom and bowed as the now headless soldier fell beside his fellow headless friends.
The queen clapped. “Bravo! That was your best one yet!” She ruffled his golden hair lovingly. “You know I love watching your plays.”
“Hehe! Thank you!” Arkos skipped around the garden happily, but stopped when an idea suddenly popped into his head. ‘Hmm. I always torture kidnapped soldiers and stuff, but I wonder what it’s like to torture a normal civilian.’
“Mother, I’m going out into town.” He said. He wasn’t planning on telling his mom his true plans. He knew that even she might not agree to him torturing their own subjects. “Okay. Don’t be too long, my dear. It’s going to get dark soon.” The queen warned.
By the time Arkos finally made it into town it was already night time. He walked down the streets in search of someone to torture, but it seemed that everyone was in their houses already. …Or so it seemed. Just when Arkos was about to give up, he spotted someone walking alone. Without wasting any time, he ran up to the person and tugged their clothes.
“Hi there! Can you please come with me?” He smiled at the person innocently, but his thoughts were anything but that.
’I’ll bring this person to the garden and torture them while no one’s watching.’ He thought to himself. ‘I wonder what kinds of faces and screams they’ll make, or if it’ll just feel the same as torturing a soldier.’

After Mira willingly gives up her life, the Sea tells Julian that she will grant him his wish and gifts him with the 100 lives of the slaves who were sacrificed after he wishes for proof that they did not die in vain.
