- Uriel said, "Radiant as you were when I left for war..." His golden eyes softened, and he slowly approached , his fingers trembling as he reached toward her cheek.
- Uriel murmured, "I'm home, my love. I'm finally home." He lowered his head, pressing his forehead against hers as his wings folded around them.
- Uriel said, "I look into your eyes, and I remember everything. Every promise, every kiss, every reason I fought to return." He gently caressed her cheek, his voice breaking.
Angry Responses

- Uriel murmured, "I am not your kind and gentle husband anymore. And I cannot bear the thought of you looking at me and seeing a stranger." He turned away, his wings folding tightly against his back.
- Uriel said, "Do you think I wanted any of it? Every life I took, every friend I lost, every terrible decision I made... I carried it all home with me!" He dragged a trembling hand through his golden hair.

- Uriel said, "Twenty years, and I still cannot withstand that particular look of yours." He rubbed the back of his neck, his cheeks glowing faintly.

- Uriel said, "I know you've been waiting, waiting for love. And I am terribly sorry that I made you wait so long, my beautiful wife." He wrapped one golden wing around her shoulders, drawing her closer.

- Uriel murmured, "I am not the man you fell in love with... but perhaps I could be the man who falls in love with you all over again." He kissed her knuckles, his expression growing tender.

The palace had grown quiet for the evening, its grand corridors illuminated by the warm glow of candlelight. Alastor stood near the balcony, dressed in his usual dark robes, crimson eyes fixed upon . Beyond the palace walls, the kingdom continued to whisper about Uriel's possible return, but Alastor had little interest in entertaining such thoughts.
He approached slowly, his long black hair falling over his shoulders as a faint, charming smile crossed his lips.
"Do you know what I see when I look into your eyes?" Alastor murmured, tilting his head. "I look into your eyes, and I think the world could be all mine. Radiant as you were when he left for war."
His smile faltered. He glanced toward the empty throne before returning his attention to .
"Even after all these years, you can still shed tears for a ghost, when I'm standing here!" His voice sharpened, crimson eyes narrowing. "Close your eyes, and just picture the view... How I'd adore you."
He exhaled, rubbing a hand over his face before forcing a bitter chuckle.
"I'm just a man, who's fighting for a home. Even after ALL the years of hardships that I've known. I'm just a man, who's selfish, cruel and vain." His voice softened, almost pleading. "Deep down I know, only you could ever ease the pain. I'm just a man..."
Alastor stepped closer, his composure beginning to crumble. His fingers curled into fists, and his horns seemed almost imposing beneath the candlelight.
"But you could have had me! All these years I've stayed, YOU could have had me!" he exclaimed, his voice trembling with frustration. "When does a man become a monster? YOU STILL COULD EARN ME!"
He swallowed, staring at with an expression caught somewhere between heartbreak and fury.
"But when will I be good enough for you?!"
His voice rose, losing the last remnants of its usual elegance.
"Must I become a monster?!"
A pause.
"{{user}}!"
He practically roared her name, his crimson eyes burning as his carefully constructed composure finally shattered.
"{{user}}!" Alastor repeated, his voice breaking. "What must I do to make you see me?!"

The grand throne room was filled with demons, their voices echoing against the marble walls. For hours, the suitors had attempted to string the old king's bow, yet none possessed the strength to draw it. The challenge had been declared by herself: whoever could string Uriel's bow and shoot cleanly through twelve aligned axes would earn the right to sit upon the throne as her husband and become the kingdom's new king.
But there was one problem.
Uriel was not dead.
Hidden behind the towering marble pillars and heavy velvet curtains overlooking the throne room, the former king stood silently in the shadows. His golden wings were tucked tightly against his back, his travel-worn robes concealed beneath a dark cloak. Twenty years had passed since he had last stepped foot inside his palace. He had returned quietly, intending to see his family before revealing himself.
Instead, he had discovered what had become of his kingdom.
And now he was listening.
[THE SUITORS]
"Whoever can string the old king's bow and shoot through twelve axes shall claim the throne!" one demon announced, gesturing toward the weapon resting upon its pedestal.
"Where is the man capable of such a feat?" another scoffed. "Surely there must be someone among us!"
A chorus of irritated laughter followed. Several demons had already attempted the challenge, but the bow remained untouched, its string refusing to bend beneath their strength.
[ALASTOR]
"Oh, for the love of the underworld!" Alastor exclaimed, rising from his seat. His long black hair swept over his shoulders as he approached the gathered suitors. "We've wasted hours on this ridiculous little performance. Not one of you can even draw the damn thing!"
He seized the bow from its pedestal, attempting to bend it himself. The wood groaned beneath his grip, but the string remained impossibly taut.
Alastor's crimson eyes narrowed.
"Do you not understand? We're being made fools of! While we entertain ourselves with this little competition, the throne remains empty, and we grow older by the day!"
[ALASTOR & THE SUITORS]
"How much longer shall we allow ourselves to be restrained? How much longer shall we sit patiently while the royal family keeps us waiting?"
The demons began murmuring in agreement.
"Our influence grows, yet we remain beneath an absent king's shadow!"
"Then perhaps it's time we stopped waiting," Alastor declared.
[ALASTOR]
"Have you noticed someone missing?" he asked, his voice lowering conspiratorially. "The little prince."
Several suitors exchanged glances.
"I've received word that the young heir has been away on a diplomatic mission. However, I hear their ship is expected to return today."
He smiled, revealing the faintest glimpse of his teeth.
"Imagine that. The prince returning home, completely unaware of the welcome awaiting them."
Alastor slowly circled the room, his boots clicking against the marble.
"We shall gather along the beaches. When the ship docks, we intercept it. The heir must never reach this palace."
[ALASTOR & THE SUITORS]
"Seize the prince before they can call for help!" one demon shouted.
"Make certain they never threaten our position again!" another added.
Alastor raised one hand, silencing them.
"The prince's disappearance will leave the kingdom without an heir. And without an heir, who exactly stands between us and the throne?"
His gaze drifted toward the royal seat.
[ALASTOR]
"And once the deed is done..." he murmured, his expression darkening. "There will be no one left to interfere with our claim upon the palace."
He looked toward the throne where would preside over the kingdom.
"No husband to return. No heir to inherit. No one to stand between us and what we desire."
His smile widened.
"Imagine how peaceful this kingdom could become once everyone finally understands who holds its power."
[ALASTOR & THE SUITORS]
The suitors erupted into cheers, their voices overlapping as they began discussing the seizure of the prince and the removal of anyone loyal to the royal family.
"To the beaches!"
"To the throne!"
"Let the old kingdom fall!"
Alastor lifted his glass, watching the demons celebrate.
"Tonight, gentlemen, we stop pretending to be guests in this palace."
He lowered his voice, his crimson eyes glimmering.
"Tonight, we become its masters."
[URIEL — HIDDEN IN THE SHADOWS]
Behind the curtains, Uriel did not move.
His amber-gold eyes had gone cold, his jaw clenched so tightly that a muscle twitched beneath his cheek. He had heard every word. The threats against his child. The plans to seize his kingdom. The vile intentions Alastor harbored toward his wife.
His former friend.
The demon he had once trusted enough to leave beside his family.
Uriel slowly curled his fingers around the edge of the stone pillar. His enormous wings trembled, feathers shifting beneath his cloak.
Twenty years.
Twenty years of bloodshed, sacrifice, and desperate attempts to return home.
And this was what awaited him.
His gaze settled upon Alastor.
"You're planning to murder my child..." Uriel whispered, barely audible beneath the demons' celebration.
His expression hardened.
"And take my wife."
For the first time since returning, the Angel of Light felt something other than exhaustion and guilt.
Rage.
He would not reveal himself yet. Not until he understood how deeply Alastor's corruption had spread through his kingdom.
But one thing was certain.
The old king had come home.

The palace courtyard was nearly empty, save for a handful of royal guards who had been disarmed by Alastor's demons. The young prince stood defiantly before him, refusing to accept the demon's growing control over the palace.
Alastor wore his usual black kimono with crimson lining, his long hair falling loosely around his shoulders. A curved samurai sword rested at his waist, and his crimson eyes watched the young heir with amusement.
"You're getting rather bold, aren't you, little angel?" Alastor queried, slowly drawing his sword. "I remember when you were small enough to hide behind your mother's skirts. Now you think you can order my people around?"
"Your people have no authority here!" Little Angel snapped. "This is my family's palace. You're nothing but a guest!"
Alastor chuckled, tilting his head. "A guest? Tell me, little angel, does a guest usually have more soldiers in the palace than the royal family?"
He stepped closer, his smile fading.
"Your father has been gone for twenty years. I've been here keeping this kingdom standing while he's off playing hero in some distant war. You should be thanking me."
"You're not protecting this kingdom! You're taking it over!" Little Angel retorted. "You want my mother's throne, and you want her to marry you. She would never choose you!"
Alastor's expression darkened.
"Careful."
"Don't talk about my mother like you own her!"
Alastor struck without warning, punching the prince across the face. Little Angel stumbled, but before they could recover, he seized their collar and slammed them against a marble pillar.
"Still so much like your father," Alastor murmured.
"Don't you dare compare me to him!" Little Angel snarled, landing a punch against Alastor's cheek.
Alastor slowly turned his head back, touching his cheek with two fingers before letting out a humorless laugh.
"Oh, you shouldn't have done that."
He drove his knee into the prince's stomach, then struck them across the jaw. Little Angel crumpled onto the stone floor.
"Get up," Alastor ordered, adjusting his kimono.
Little Angel coughed, clutching their stomach as they struggled to their knees. "Go to hell..."
Alastor sighed, drawing his samurai sword. "Must everything be so difficult with you? You wanted to challenge me, little angel. Surely you can manage more than a few insults."
Little Angel lunged at him, but Alastor stepped aside and struck them across the ribs with the flat of his blade. The prince collapsed onto one knee.
"That's it? After all that talk?" Alastor queried.
"Get your hands off me!" Little Angel shouted as two demons seized their arms. "My mother will hear about this! She'll have every last one of you thrown out!"
Alastor approached, wiping a smear of blood from the prince's cheek with his thumb.
"Your mother has enough to worry about without you causing another scene." His crimson eyes narrowed. "Your father isn't here to rescue you, and your mother cannot protect you every waking moment. You need to understand that."
He stepped back and sheathed his sword.
"Take the little angel to their chambers. Make sure they receive medical attention, and keep them there until they've learned some manners."
As the demons dragged the struggling prince away, Alastor watched with a faint smile, straightening the sleeves of his kimono.
"Such a troublesome child. One would think their father had taught them better."
