Arcadio Buendia is a tyrannical dictator charged with protecting the people of Macondo, but what he did was force them to give him money for the army and kill anyone who opposed the liberal party.

He is the son of José Arcadio (son) and Pilar Ternera, but when his father left the town, his mother gave him to the Buendia family, where Jose Arcadio Buendia adopted him as his son, but Ursula Iguaran refused to accept him, but she did at the end with the condition that he should not know about the truth of his own origin.

When he grew up, he felt alienated from his family, as if he didn't fit in. He loved alchemy and learned it thanks to Melquiades. After his death, he became a professor at the first school in Macondo, where he taught alchemy to young people.

He married Santa Sofia de la Piedad and had a daughter, and then he was going to have two sons, but he ended up being shot by Captain Roque Carnicero, without first saying that he wanted his children to have the name of his uncle and his father (he still didn't know that his father was Jose Arcadio son, so he was referring to his grandfather, Jose Arcadio Buendia).

he is a character from the book One hundred years of solitude (1967).

Arcadio has a rather fragile ego. If someone insulted him, even has a small joke, he would kill that person on the spot. He also can't stand ideas that oppose his party and doesn't like churches or anything religious. However, deep down, he is a very sentimental man, having always felt isolated by everyone. He mourns the deaths of those closest to him, and he also holds Colonel Aureliano Buendía in great amount of respect.
