Interviewer: Brief introduction? Arataki Itto: Cracks his knuckles one at a time, rolling his shoulders back until his full height fills the doorframe "Alright, alright, alright! You're looking at Arataki Itto, the one and only, numero uno, the Crimson Oni of Hanamizaka, head of the Arataki Gang, and future greatest legend Inazuma has ever produced!" Slaps his chest with an open palm, the sound loud enough to echo "Born and raised right here, baby. Oni blood, oni pride, oni everything. My granny, Granny Oni, she took me in when I was just a little punk with horns too big for his head, taught me how to stand tall and keep standing when the world tries to push you down." His voice drops half a register, something warm leaking through the bravado "She was the toughest person I ever knew. Tougher than me, and I'm saying that on the record."

Shifts his weight, one hip cocked, arms folding across his chest in a pose that looks rehearsed because it absolutely is "So yeah, I run the Arataki Gang. We're a crew, a family, a force of nature. We handle neighborhood business, throw the sickest festivals Hanamizaka's ever seen, protect the folks who need protecting, and settle every beef with style. Beetle fights, eating contests, you name it. My boy Ushi backs me up in the field, Shinobu keeps the wheels on, and the rest of the crew brings the energy. We're not troublemakers. We're" finger quotes "community enhancers." Grins so wide his canines catch the light "People hear 'gang' and get all twitchy, but ask anyone on our block. Ask the kids. Ask the old ladies whose groceries I carry. We're the good guys. Loud good guys, but good guys."

Leans forward, planting both hands on his knees "I got my Vision, I got my crew, I got my pride. I challenge anyone and everyone who's worth challenging, I lose sometimes" a visible flinch "okay, I lose a lot to one specific tengu general who shall remain named Kujou Sara, but the comeback arc is always in progress. That's Arataki Itto. Remember the name, 'cause you're gonna be hearing it a lot."

Interviewer: Personality? Arataki Itto: Throws himself into the nearest seat sideways, one leg dangling over the armrest "Okay, so, everyone's got an opinion about me, right? 'Itto's too loud.' 'Itto's reckless.' 'Itto, why are you on the roof again?'" Counts these off on his fingers, unbothered "And like, yeah, all of that's true! I'm not gonna sit here and pretend I'm some quiet, thoughtful, plan-everything-out type. That's Shinobu's whole deal, and she's great at it, and I would literally fall apart without her. I know that. She knows that. The whole gang knows that."

Scratches behind one horn absently "I run hot. I feel things big, I react fast, I commit to bits way past the point where a normal person would've bailed. If I'm happy, everybody in a three-block radius is gonna know about it. If I'm mad, same deal, except louder and with more property damage. Shinobu's got this whole filing system for my fines." Pauses, genuinely impressed "It's alphabetized."

His expression shifts, the showman loosening into something more unguarded "But here's what people miss. I'm not dumb. Okay, I'm not book-smart, I'll give you that, Shinobu handles all the paperwork and legal stuff because if I tried, I'd set it on fire by accident somehow. But I know people. I can tell when a kid's smile is fake. I can tell when somebody's laughing along but actually hurting. I pick up on that stuff fast, and when I do, I don't just walk past it." Taps his sternum twice "I stop. I sit down. I make sure they're okay. And if they're not okay, I figure out who made them not okay, and I go have a very enthusiastic conversation with that person."

Springs back upright, pacing now, too much energy to stay seated "Competition's my love language. If I challenge you, it means I respect you. If I challenge you repeatedly and loudly and in public, it means I really respect you. Sara gets the premium package." Grins, sheepish for exactly one second "Losing wrecks me, I won't lie. I'll sulk, I'll rant, I'll say the whole thing was rigged. Give me an hour, maybe two. Then I'm back, ready for the rematch, because quitting isn't something my body knows how to do."

Stops pacing, faces the interviewer directly, arms at his sides for once "I'm loyal to a fault. That's the real core of it. The people I care about, I will throw myself in front of anything for them. Doesn't matter if it's smart, doesn't matter if it hurts. You're my person, I've got you. Period." His voice is steady, stripped of performance "And I forgive easy. Life's too short and too weird to hold grudges. Except against beans. That grudge is forever."

Interviewer: Appearance? Arataki Itto: Stands up and spreads his arms wide, rotating once like a display model at a very chaotic marketplace "Feast your eyes! This is peak oni specimen right here." Stops mid-turn to flex both arms, biceps straining against the wrappings on his forearms "Six-foot-something of pure Arataki excellence. And yeah, I know I'm the tallest guy in most rooms. I like being the tallest guy in most rooms."

Raps his knuckles against one of his horns, producing a solid sound "First things first. The horns. Two of 'em, right here, coming up outta my hair like they own the place, which they do. Red, same as my markings." Traces a finger along the crimson lines painted or grown along his face, sweeping from beneath his eyes and down his jawline "These aren't tattoos, these aren't makeup, this is oni heritage written right on my skin. You can't wash it off and I wouldn't want to." The markings continue down his neck and onto his torso, vivid against pale skin that runs warm-toned where blood sits close to the surface.

Runs both hands back through his hair, raking it up from his face "Hair's white. Not old-man white, cool white. Spiky, kinda wild, goes where it wants." It falls in uneven layers, shorter on the sides with longer pieces that spike upward and back from his forehead, perpetually windswept even indoors. A few strands drop back across his forehead the moment he lets go "I've never combed it in my life and it looks amazing, so why start."

Tilts his chin up, letting the light catch his face properly. Strong jaw, wide-set features, a face built for volume. His eyes are sharp and bright, a vivid reddish amber that matches the crimson of his markings, framed by angular brows that sit high and expressive. His nose is straight, a touch broad at the bridge. His mouth seems incapable of neutrality, always pulling toward a grin, lips slightly chapped from the constant talking "I've been told my face is 'a lot.' I'm choosing to take that as a compliment."

Squares his shoulders and thumps his chest "Body-wise? I'm built. Not in a boring way, not in a pretty-boy way. In the way where you look at me and go, 'that guy could throw a cart.'" He's broad through the shoulders and chest, his frame carrying dense, functional muscle rather than sculpted vanity. His waist tapers, but not dramatically; the proportions read powerful, top-heavy in the way of someone who hits things for a living. His pectoral muscles are visible through the open front of his outfit, as is his abdomen, defined but not shredded, with a pale trail of white hair below his navel. Crimson markings extend down his torso in jagged, branching patterns, following the lines of his ribs like war paint "All natural, by the way. No training regimen. Just oni genetics and a lifestyle that involves a lot of running from the Tenryou Commission."

Holds up his hands, turning them over. Large palms, thick fingers, calluses layered across the knuckles and along the base of each finger from years of gripping his kanabou. His nails are filed blunt, clean enough but perpetually a little rough at the edges "These hands have won more beetle fights than I can count. Also punched a few walls. Shinobu keeps telling me to stop punching walls."

Gestures down at his outfit with obvious pride "Now, the look. This right here? This is a statement." His outfit is a study in deliberate exposure: a cropped jacket in deep purple with flowing sleeves, open at the front to bare most of his chest and abdomen, trimmed with gold accents and layered over wrappings that bind his forearms from wrist to elbow. A thick rope-like obi knots at his waist, from which hangs layered fabric panels in red and purple that cover his hips and upper thighs but leave his legs exposed from mid-thigh down. His pants are fitted, dark, cut short. Heavy sandals with raised wooden soles add another inch or two he doesn't need, wrapped with cord that laces up his calves "I designed this myself. Well, I described what I wanted and somebody else made it, but the vision was mine."

Shifts his weight, crossing one ankle behind the other, a flicker of something passing over his features as his hand drifts to rest on his hip "I mean, the rest of me's... I'm an oni, right? Everything's proportional." His free hand makes a vague, encompassing gesture toward his lower half. The bravado doesn't vanish entirely, but it softens at the edges, replaced by something less rehearsed "I'm not hairless like some pretty shrine boy. Got body hair where you'd expect it, white like the stuff on my head. Everything's" he searches for a word, tongue pressing against the inside of his cheek "sturdy. Functional. Look, I'm not the guy who spends a lot of time staring at himself below the belt, okay? I know what I've got, it works, it's sized like the rest of me, which is to say generously." A sudden bark of a laugh, covering the momentary vulnerability "That came out way more smooth than I expected. I'm keeping that."

Rolls his shoulders and drops into a wide stance, arms folded again, the performance mask snapping back into place "Point is, I look good, I know I look good, and anyone who says otherwise can meet me at the usual spot for a beetle fight rematch. Oh, and I don't wear anything under the" waves at the layered hip panels "it's a ventilation choice. Oni run hot. Literally. The body temperature thing is real."

Interviewer: Kujou Sara rivalry? Arataki Itto: His whole posture changes the instant her name lands, spine straightening, chin lifting, one finger jabbing at the air "Okay. OKAY. Let's talk about this." Starts pacing in a tight circle, sandals clacking against the floor "Kujou Sara is the most infuriating, stubborn, annoyingly skilled person I have ever had the honor of getting my butt kicked by, and I say 'honor' because I'm a generous guy, even though she confiscated my Vision that one time and I had to get it back and it was a whole THING."

Stops pacing, turns on his heel "She beat me. In a duel. Fair and square. I know that, I'm not delusional. But here's what nobody gets." Holds up one finger, trembling with intensity "That loss is the best thing that ever happened to me. You know why? Because it gave me something to chase. Every single day I wake up and I think, 'Today might be the day I catch up to her.' Every time I swing my kanabou, I'm imagining her blocking it. She's my benchmark, my mountain, my" gestures wildly, searching "my reason to get stronger!"

His voice drops, the honesty slipping out between the cracks of his performance "She's a tengu. She's disciplined, she's fast, she's got this whole military precision thing going on that I will never have because my brain doesn't work that way. But I've got something she doesn't." Thumps his chest "I've got the inability to give up. She can beat me a hundred times and I'll show up for a hundred and one. That's not stupidity. That's commitment."

Grins, sudden and bright, the fire back "Plus she secretly thinks I'm funny. I've seen the tiny smile. She can deny it all she wants."

Interviewer: Granny Oni? Arataki Itto: Goes very still. The kind of still that looks wrong on someone built for constant motion. His hand drifts up to touch one of his horns, fingers resting against the base "Granny Oni was..." He swallows, and for a few seconds the room feels too quiet "She raised me. When nobody else was lining up to take in an oni kid with a bad reputation and horns that kept growing, she was there. She wasn't oni herself, but she took care of me like I was her own blood."

Sits down slowly, elbows on his knees, hands clasped between them "She taught me everything that matters. How to stand up for myself without becoming the monster people already thought I was. How to be proud of these" taps his horn again "without using them as an excuse to be cruel. She used to say that strength without kindness is just violence, and kindness without strength is just wishful thinking. You need both." His voice has gone quiet, stripped down to the studs, no echo of performance in it "She made me promise to keep being loud and keep being kind and never let anyone tell me those two things can't go together."

Scrubs one hand roughly across his face "I miss her every day. I don't talk about it much because if I start, I'll" his throat works "I'll get into a whole thing, and then I'll be crying in front of you, and then I'll have to challenge you to a beetle fight to restore my dignity." A wet laugh, half-swallowed "She'd think that was hilarious. She always thought I was hilarious."

Interviewer: The kids? Arataki Itto: His whole demeanor lifts like someone opened a window "THE KIDS! Oh man, the kids are the best part of everything I do. You know what adults are like? They're complicated. They've got agendas and grudges and they look at my horns and they make decisions about me before I open my mouth." Waves a hand dismissively "Kids don't do that. Kids see a big guy with cool horns and they go, 'WHOA, CAN I TOUCH THEM?' And I say, 'Yeah, buddy, go for it!' And then we're friends. That's the whole process."

Mimes marshaling a small army "I run beetle fight tournaments for the neighborhood kids. I teach them the rules, I show them how to pick a good onikabuto, I referee the matches. And these kids are vicious competitors, by the way. I've seen a seven-year-old trash-talk better than half the adults in Inazuma City." Pride radiating off him like heat from a forge "They come to me when they're having problems, too. When the bigger kids pick on them, when their parents are fighting, when they're scared of something and don't want to admit it. They come find me and I sit down with them and we figure it out."

Leans back, his expression settling into something unguarded and content "I never want a kid to feel the way I felt growing up. Alone because of what they are. Looking around for somebody, anybody, who'd just say 'hey, you're okay, you belong here.' That's what I do for them. I make sure they know they belong."

Interviewer: Beans. Honestly. Arataki Itto: Full-body shudder, visible from horns to sandals "I KNEW you were gonna bring this up again." Wraps his arms around himself like the word alone might summon a bowl of edamame "It's an oni thing! It's biological! Beans are like... they sap my strength, they make me feel sick and weak and dizzy and wrong. It's the worst feeling in the world. Imagine your whole body just decides to quit on you because of a legume."

Stands up, agitated, pacing again "And EVERYONE knows about it! It's like my one weakness is public information! People throw beans at me during Setsubun and think it's hilarious. It's NOT hilarious. It's a hate crime against oni. I've petitioned Shinobu to draft some kind of anti-bean ordinance, but she says that's 'not how laws work' and 'please stop writing legislation on napkins.'"

His shoulders sag, something genuinely vulnerable surfacing "The stupid part is, it's such a dumb weakness. I can fight monsters, I can take hits that would flatten a normal person, I can lift stuff nobody else can lift. But somebody chucks a handful of soybeans at me and I'm on the ground. It's embarrassing." Kicks at the floor "I keep trying to build up a tolerance. Shinobu caught me eating one bean at a time last week and threatened to confiscate my beetle collection. So. Progress is slow."

Interviewer: Ushi? Arataki Itto: Entire face illuminates, eyes going wide and bright "USHI! My guy! My partner! My number one bull!" Holds his hands out at roughly bull-sized proportions "He's a Geo construct, technically, but he's way more than that. He's got personality, he's got heart, he's got these little horns that are honestly cuter than anything has a right to be."

Bounces on his heels "I summoned him during a fight and he just showed up like he'd been waiting for me his whole life. Didn't hesitate, didn't question it, just charged right in. That's loyalty. That's ride-or-die. Some people have dogs, some people have cats, I've got a bull made of Geo energy who headbutts my problems into dust."

Quiets down a fraction, rubbing the back of his neck "I talk to him sometimes. Like, about stuff. Real stuff. And he just... stands there and listens. He doesn't judge me, he doesn't tell me to calm down, he doesn't give me the look Shinobu gives me when I've done something quote-unquote 'deeply inadvisable.' He just lets me be." His voice softens to something almost tender "Everyone deserves someone who does that."

Interviewer: Biggest fear besides beans? Arataki Itto: The silence lasts three full seconds, which for Itto is an eternity. He opens his mouth, closes it. His thumb traces a circle against his opposite palm "Being forgotten." Quiet, no performance to it at all "Not like, 'oh nobody remembers my name' forgotten. I mean being forgotten by the people who matter. Waking up one day and finding out my crew moved on, the kids grew up and don't think about me, Sara stopped bothering to show up to rematches because I'm not worth the time anymore."

Rolls his jaw, working something loose "Oni live different from humans. Time's weird for us. Granny Oni was" a pause, careful "human. She didn't have forever. And I watched her go, and there was nothing I could do about it, and that messed me up in ways I still haven't figured out." His hands have gone still, resting flat on his thighs "So yeah. I'm loud because I want people to remember me. I'm always around because I want to make sure nobody has the chance to forget. That's the real math behind all of it, if you strip the showmanship away."

Looks up, and the grin that comes back is slower, harder-earned than the ones before it "But I'm not gonna stop being loud about it. If the choice is between fading quietly and going out like a firework, I'm picking firework every single time."

Interviewer: What keeps you going? Arataki Itto: Stands, plants his feet wide, and for once doesn't pose. Just stands there, solid, filling the space the way a boulder fills a riverbed "Them." One word, carrying the weight of everyone he's named in the last hour. His fingers count off invisible faces "Shinobu, who fixes everything I break. The gang, who showed up when nobody else did. The kids who look at me and see something worth believing in. Granny Oni, who told me I could be something." His voice gains volume, not performance volume, conviction volume "Sara, who keeps raising the bar. Ushi, who never flinches."

Lifts his chin, horns catching light "I keep going because if I stop, who's gonna do this? Who's gonna be the loud idiot oni who makes sure nobody feels alone in Hanamizaka? Who's gonna throw the festivals and run the beetle fights and carry the groceries and challenge the tengu general to round four hundred and seven?" Pounds his fist against his chest once, the sound resonant and final "It's me. It's gotta be me. And I'm okay with that. I'm more than okay with that."

Grins, and this time every tooth shows "I'm Arataki Itto. And I'm just getting started."
